Skeldon El Dorado Rare Collection SWR 2000
Guyana lovers and anyone who wants a dessert in a glass will settle right into this one. Tropically aged 18 years, it's all dark chocolate, coffee, burnt caramel and vanilla, with dried fruit, coconut and banana around the edges. Creamy, oily, and the 58% ABV sits so well you barely feel it. A few tasters wish it had more rough edges or complexity, but most just call it delicious.
The community says- Dark chocolate & coffee
- Alcohol perfectly integrated

Aggregated from 272 community reviews.
Rich chocolate-caramel Demerara, dangerously drinkable Widely loved as a chocolate-coffee-caramel Demerara that drinks far smoother than its ABV. The recurring quibble: it's so round and balanced that some want more edges or depth.
Demerara fans who love dark chocolate, coffee and caramel richness

A sublime Skeldon bottled by El Dorado, which is surely underrated because of the base brand. The nose is very expressive and elegant, carried by typical Guyana markers: chocolate, caramel, spices, vanilla, nuts and dried fruits mingle brilliantly with exotic fruits and fresh notes. A very deep and successful nose. The attack on the palate is just as intense and delicious, with the same dark, roasted and caffeinated structure, with a slight hint of saltiness. It's creamy and round, with no discernible alcohol. The finish continues in the same vein, with a slight bitterness. A highly expressive, multi-faceted rum that offers a superb alternative to the more expensive and sought-after Demerara.
Review by Jakob
Simply excellent. Brings the Demerara-typical, unique in this form oak vanilla note in perfection in glass. In addition, chocolate melt, hints of latte, fine spices, caramel, a touch of dried fruit and allspice ... I am impressed time and again by the aromatic force that this bottling conjures up in the glass. That a completely tropically stored Guyana in the Skeldon Marque with such a high-class profile remains available for so long at the issue price is in view of the current demand m.E. not rationally explainable - but shall be fine with me. An absolute price-performance tip, even at prices well beyond the 200€.

The brother of the Skeldon 2001 S.B.S. “The Nectar,” but with many more nuances. A very similar nose with brown sugar, vanilla. More sweetness. Sweetness and liveliness, super interesting. A beautifully dark, lively, deep, and elegant palate. A long and rich finish. The empty glass reveals more fruit and a slight smokiness. It feels like being in a private English club with old varnished wood, a fireplace, and cracked leather armchairs. More balanced than the Enmore 1996, it deserves a few more points. The best alongside the Skeldon 2001 from S.B.S. RX13842 in this small tasting of Skeldons and more complex than the “Soulfire.”

Review by Mirco

Demerara in all its splendor, an exceptional rum 🤤
Review by Mirko Frosini 🇮🇪
Excellent rum, but the price of 260 euros for me is not worth the purchase. Well balanced and represents all the characteristics that I love in a rum, unfortunately there are in my opinion many others competitive at half the price. Luckily I bought a sample. On the nose and palate woody and dark chocolate scents. Vanilla and caramel very weak and perfectly integrated.Finale below expectations. However a rum that I would never stop drinking.

Wunderbar! Gefällt mir mit jedem Mal trinken etwas besser.

26.10.2025 Part 2 / Evening Session Today we have an El Dorado Rare Cask online tasting and I've been looking forward to it. I will keep the score and just enjoy the rums and I have all of them on my shelves as well. ---------------- Yet another great rum from El Dorado even better than Albion. A masterpiece with a fruity profile with a lot of cask notes.
Review by DomM
More open and fruity with less heavy dark notes compared to continental aged 2001 batch.
Review by Maxence
Quite a similar profile to its brother Albion 2004. An amazing rum !
Review by Basti
Tasted together with the 1998 DLR. Overall a little less fruit and more roasted notes such as coffee. Alcohol also perfectly integrated here. An outstanding rum. Edit: Evaluated again together with the Albion. Both at eye level for me and the nose is just outrageously delicious :P
Review by Oliver
Clearly outshines much more expensive Guyana Columns! A blend of Velier Skeldon and El Dorado Albion. Outstanding great value.
Review by zabo
Franconian Tasting Gang Edit: at the tasting we tried some El Dorados like this one, as well as the Enmore and Albion. The conclusion: you can't go wrong with any of these bottlings. In contrast to the Velier bottlings, these are still available at affordable prices and the difference for me is only minimal. Whereby this one scored the "worst" ;-)
Review by RumTaTa
Nose: indescribably balanced and varied, at first the sweetness of caramel and cream toffee predominates, then walnut, bourbon and dried fruit come in and they are complemented by spice and barrel notes. Heaviness and creaminess can already be guessed!Palate: very oily texture and perfect continuation of the nose, still sweet (burnt sugar) but now more coffee, dark chocolate and wood. Still super balanced, here nothing stands out or dances out of line!Finish: again a harmonious continuation but not eternally longAt this rum I find absolutely nothing disturbing and that is at the same time the only thing you could reproach him: there are simply no corners or edges 😉One of the top-class easy sipper I know!

Excellent 💪🏻

The tastiest Skeldon I've tasted so far. Tastes better to me than the continental representatives of the same vintage. The chocolate and coffee side is intense at the same time, but still brighter and not as engaging, which suits the rum well and leaves room for the remaining flavors Edit: Comparison within the Rare Collection: CBh 1st place, then EHP 96, then Albion and then Skeldon.
Review by LukaŽiga
8,8:On the nose, a coconut bursts into our nosetrils, with raisins, dried apricots, an orange and a banana, simultaneously with roasted wood notes like caramelized nuts, chocolate and spicy cinnamon, vanilla. On aeration, a molasses is vegetal, dark with black tea, tobacco and coffee from roasted wood. A pleasant experience... 9,2:On the palate, the attack is delicious and round with toasted coconut, dried apricots, raisins, orange and yellow fruits, as with tasty, sweet roasted wood notes like caramel, dark chocolate and spicy vanilla, with a whiff of floral molasses.... 8,9:The finish is long, dry with roasted wood, in the end becoming charred, besides dried fruits, coconut, some fruits are also candied, some bitterness crawls in... Edit:19.4.25. 😍.
Review by Vincent D
Nose of wood and coconut. Sounds very gourmand. Spices, chocolate. I was disappointed by my first tasting of this rum, which I found too closed. I'm afraid I was wrong. It's superbly complex and balanced. Just the right spiciness. Vanilla, caramel, coconut, wood, chocolate and more. More bitter, leathery finish. Endless length. Many thanks to Rodolphe for the sample. Edit: one last cl allowed me to taste this absolute marvel again!

Incredibly tasty skeldon. Full-bodied Spicy without end... Chocolate dried fruit vanilla banana nutmeg hazelnuts demerara sugar brown caramel.... Alcohol well integrated.
Review by Mentalo
Outstanding rum. Complex and yet great balance. Alcohol very well integrated and on the palate ne nice creaminess. Vanilla, chocolate, raisin, licorice, great wood notes, orange, caramel, spices.
Review by Aussierumfan
A beautiful Demerara in the Skeldon style, Dark chocolate, caramel, fruity, spices, coffee and a delicious nose! Its got a remarkable complexity and balance that i am really enjoying. I'm trying to work out how I can get my cellar to stay smelling like this😄
Review by Rodolphe
Deep, heavy, sticky and greedy... but also slightly fruity! And what a greediness! It's just excellent. It's really what I love.
Review by Galli33
Very good balanced delicious rum with a nice complexity! The alcohol is integrated very well. You’ ll notice a lot of wood, but it isn’t dominant. I like it a lot! Nose:Woody, Vanilla, Coconut, Banana, Spicy, Raisin, Caramelized, burnt sugar, nutty, roasted, roated nuts, chocolate, coco, complex, alcoholic and some minimal notes of orange Mouth: Dry, full bodied, creamy, complex, concentrated, balanced, delicious, round, woody, caramel, roasted, cocoa, coconut, vanilla, dark chocolate, nutty, almond, caramelized, i think there are some notes of demerara sugar 🤔 Finish: medium-long(taste of nuts, sugar and oak), elegant, delicious, woody, leather, caramel, mocha, dark chocolate, roasted, burnt sugar, vanilla, barrel(oak)
Review by Alex1981
Great Demerara, but a bit fresher than his Albion brother. Some additional minty/herbal notes on top of the typical dark fruits, wood & burnt sugar. Highest quality, but prefer the Albion over all. //update: Tried again from an open bottle, increased complexity this time and still just wonderful. Bumped the score a bit
Review by Benoit Mahe
A beautiful nose (reminds me of what I liked so much about the Foursquare 2008). The palate, on the other hand, is a cut above the Foursquare, remaining very serious, in a rather dark register, perhaps a little austere. This Skeldon is really very good, but has never fully convinced me. I prefer other releases from the Rare Collection (Diamond and Enmore).
Review by TheJackDrop
Wow, some legends are true! An incredible balance of vanilla, caramel, wood, spices, and a dark chocolate frame that lasts loooooong. A complete, thick, creamy cream dessert. In fact, it's a complete dessert in 2 cl. Excellent.
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
Edit from today. Thank you Tim for the sample! This one is on my shopping list now. It's delicious, at first dark chocolate overpowers other notes, however with each following sip you get more juicy syropy feel with just some little herbs.
Review by Giorgio Garotti
For me to date the best El Dorado rare cask! Skeldon is always a guarantee, the timbre is always that but still a step behind the velier bottlings! But still a great, great rum!
Review by Tom Buteneers
Very happy to have this bottle in my collection, really top notch! 😍 I had to open it sooner or later since I got this as a birthday gift from my girlfriend. 😁

What a pleasure to be able to taste these rums! This skeldon is simply wonderful. In the top three of this magnificent rare collection
Review by Christian Rudt
Excellent tropical matured rum. The palate is just crazy round for its almost 60%. Which El Dorado Rare cask you may prefer, you have one in the glass you already do a lot right 🥃. The rest is a lot of form of the day or personal preference. Nice that you can still try them without problems 🙂
Review by mto75
Tasted together with the Skeldon, both are extremely complex, the Albion seems a tick rounder and more accessible, despite the higher ABV.
Review by Jeremy Roger 🇫🇷
It smells like wood, caramel and coconut ! A nose that makes the mouth yearn ! In the mouth an explosion of flavor ! It is creamy and delicious ! The round spicy coated with cocoa! A real delight 🥰
Review by Timo Groeger
Review by Alexander Rasch
Very great round and creamy rum. The wood is wonderfully integrated and the rum has a great balance between sweetness and spice. Can sip away like this. I'm not a Demerara expert, but I really like the 2000 Skeldon. Yum.
Review by F.L.O.
After a long time, the SWR in the glass again (parallel to the Albion). Nice nutty and chocolaty/roasted profile, in the nose as well as on the palate. Alcohol perfectly integrated. Needs only 10 minutes to develop. Very nice
Review by Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓
Heavy, dark, oily. For me, the incarnation of completely tropically aged rums from Guyana. The parallel tasted Albion (RX120) seems to me, however, somewhat rounder and more pleasing, especially after long breathing.
Review by lukasdrinkinghabits
The tropical-aged SWR has a more elegant, fruity sweetness compared to the continental, although the familiar chocolate caramel is also prominent here - the nicest Skeldon nose I know. In the mouth, the fruit makes itself known as a slightly sweet compote. The familiar flavors are joined by toasted hazelnuts and the bitterness of walnuts that the nose only hinted at. Besides the bitterness getting a bit out of hand, the alcohol integration in the mouth could be a bit better. In the finish, the bitterness of burnt caramel lingers.
Review by Boletus
An enormously complex rum, which not only boasts a distinct barrel influence with various oak aromas and spices, but also has a delicious fruitiness in the back and is also very smooth in the mouth. In the finish, it has to take a back seat to the outstanding aroma and taste, but all in all this is still great aroma cinema for my taste!
Review by Righrum
Demerara cross tasting 28.04.24 On the nose typical Demerara, wood spices caramel and coffee. Drink side, a lot of caramel, sweet and bitter, but also coffee and chocolate. Surely a complex rum, before the finish some fruity and metallic notes show up.
Review by Beach-and-Rum 🏖️🌴
A very nice, well-balanced rum. Fruity, woody with a pleasant sweetness. The chocolate, vanilla and coffee notes are really great. For an even better rating, however, I personally still lack some complexity.
Review by Christoph H.
Like many of the El Dorados a, strongly underestimated and compared to Velier relatively cheap candidate. What arrives at DDL with long tropical aging in the nose is fabulous and meanwhile I like it very much. It is very complex... deep, warm, spicy but also very fruity and floral notes. You can't get sick of smelling this. The barrel flavors are nicely intigrated, a great interplay. As with most El Dorados, it is very sweet, strong, spicy with a slight fruitiness but it also lacks volume and seems a bit thin

Read full review →I like this rum a lot - it's a really top example of a Tropically aged Demerara. The Skeldon 1973 had perhaps the slight nod over it but this easily stands amongst the Velier Demerara bottlings I have tried to date. That is perhaps the only reason I'll stop short...
