Ten Cane RA Trinidad Rum 2008
One taster nailed it: this drinks like a boozy Mon Chéri, all sour cherry, marzipan and dark chocolate over roasted oak and a little menthol. A 14-year Ten Cane at cask strength, complex and full of red fruit, with a dry, woody finish. The recurring gripe is the heat — the 58% never fully settles, even after time in the glass.

How does Ten Cane RA Trinidad Rum 2008 taste?
Aggregated from 62 community reviews.
Sour cherry and marzipan, hot but complex Loved for its intense sour-cherry-and-marzipan profile, but nearly everyone notes the alcohol is poorly integrated. Complex and tasty; the marzipan can tip into "too much" for some.

Compared to the one year younger Ten Cane from Romdeluxe (RX12167), I can hardly notice a difference in taste. Perhaps the cherries of Romdeluxe are a bit riper and darker, the Mon Cheri a bit stronger in ABV. But that's about it. Both very drinkable rums. Given the price in relation to the different fill quantities, I would probably reach for a second bottle rather to the RA.

Nose: marzipan, cherry, sweet, sugar, wood, alcoholic, earthy Taste: sugar, wood, cherry, marzipan, spices Finish medium, bitter, woody, minty. Very yummy rum. Love the sweet earthy cherry aromas with this. Alcohol is a bit punchy, but by no means a deal breaker.

A successful representative from Trinidad at a good PLV.Has great notes of (sour) cherry and marzipan.Complex and quaffable at the same time.I like.

My first Ten Cane, definitely not my last! Gigantic nose, fine interplay of sour cherries, spices, wood and a little menthol. The alcohol tickles one's nose. In the mouth then a lot of spice, leather, wood, slightly smoky, the sour cherry also comes through easily and menthol, quite sharp, alcoholic, but still noble. It says goodbye with cherries, calvados and wood.Trinidad times very different. Top!

Very interesting and complex. Medium-long finish, but not very punchy. I have to be honest, I cannot distinguish this marked black cherry aroma, in fact I found it well balanced. On the finish lychee/cherry. I sensed fleeting notes of marzipan / pastry. If I drink without thinking too much about the bouquet then I perceive its complexity and taste it really well. A very interesting rum that needs attention.

A beautiful bottling of Trinidad, a change from the two recurring names. The nose is very fruity, with dried fruit (grapes, prunes) and red fruit (cherries), with a hint of menthol. Spices take center stage with dark chocolate, coffee, woody and smoky notes. Light sweet notes of caramel and marzipan round out the nose. A very pleasant Ten Cane. Flavors develop voluptuously, notably on red and dried fruits (cherry, redcurrant, prune, grape) that add perfume on the palate. As the palate expands, spices (vanilla, chili, pepper, ginger) and roasted notes (cocoa, leather, coffee, dark chocolate and walnuts) become more intense. Caramel, marzipan and menthol continue to grace the palate, which is round, mellow and balanced. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long, just as gourmand and opulent, notably on spicy, roasted and toasted notes (hazelnut, coffee, dark chocolate, tobacco, leather). Wood and herbaceous notes provide a bit of bitterness in the background, whose dryness is accentuated by fruit (prune and cherry). A very pleasant rum at a very reasonable price for its quality.

An exciting rum that offers much to discover. Beautiful fruit notes. On the palate rather spicy. In fact, it can not quite capture the spiciness, but that does not bother me. 100% I do not get warm with the Ten Cane bottlings yet. If we take Caroni out of the equation, TDL remains my favorite distillery in Trinidad.

I am excited pretty much. I like the sour cherry background and there is still some mintyness.

Comparison with RX12167 (RDL CS Ten Cane 2008)I like the 2008 Ten Canes because of the great sour cherry notes. But I've never had one that came up with well-integrated alcohol. So it is here, already stings a bit on the nose - barely less than the RDL with just under 8% more ABV. Compared to the RDL, the nose is more versatile, less closed and brings more marzipan and sour cherry. In the mouth both very similar, the RA a touch more differentiated and both unfortunately with very present alcohol. In the aftertaste of spice, dark chocolate and wood dominates but the sour cherry also remains for a while. The RDL is more intense but fades faster.Who would like to try a 2008 Ten Cane at a fair price is right here. All others will find little new.

The first thing that struck me right at the first tasting at the Aquavitae fair remains formative even now. This insane cherry lollipop flavor (which there used to be times at the pediatrician😁). I can't get rid of that here either, I don't think it's bad at all. Not quite as intense as a the duchess rather an easy sipper but with neat complexity.

Beautiful aromatic complexity. Strong spicy notes, wood, cherry notes, marzipan - on the one hand with many typical rum flavors, but in addition variation thanks to the beautiful fruitiness and savory sweetness.

A very nice color (tawny). In the nose cookie dough and milk chocolate, clove, tannins and fruit. The profile is complemented by a slightly rancid note. Reminds me strongly of Bielle 2001.In the mouth very powerful, despite a few drops of water. Powerful, long finish. Very peppery and neat citrus.Very good Ten Cane (is only my second of these).

This bottling somehow completely passed me by. I've finally been able to catch up. Very tasty Ten Cane with an intense sour cherry candy note from the nose to the finish. Which ends dry, woody and unfortunately a little flat. Nevertheless, a very tasty rum!
Review by lukasdrinkinghabits
The nose is very woody, burnt and in addition the typical red fruits and berries, but also a note that irritates me very much and that I find difficult to grasp: fermented milk with cookie dough? The mouth is a bit more fruity, but otherwise very similar to the nose - but without this weirdo. Alcohol integration is ok, but I feel the 58% more than I should. The 2008 batch of Ten Cane, has produced some super rums between quaffable and brute. This one is somewhere in between, not as quaffable as the RdLs, not as brute as the second Duchess - just because of that a typical, but also somewhat boring representative of the patch. Deductions for this strange note in the nose.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Very drinkable and tasty ten cane. Extremely intense cherry marzipan and chocolate notes, almost like a Mon Cheri. In addition, some menthol and then again marzipan. Alcohol top integrated. Overall delicious but this intense marzipan flavor is a little too much for me personally.
