Thompson Bros. T.D.L Trinidad Rum 1991
"Like a light Caroni with mint" is how one taster nailed it. This 29-year TDL leans dry and woody — cedar, menthol, anise and a bit of that dirty, medicinal edge, with tannin and only faint fruit. The nose reads generic at first; give it time in the glass and it opens up. A few felt it tastes slightly watered down despite the high strength.
The community says- Menthol and mint
- Caroni-like dirty notes
- Dull nose at first

How does Thompson Bros. T.D.L Trinidad Rum 1991 taste?
Aggregated from 29 community reviews.
Dry, woody old TDL with a mint streak Well-liked but no one calls it thrilling. A woody, minty old Trinidad with Caroni-ish dirty notes — needs time in the glass, and some find it thin for the ABV.

Much rounder on the nose versus the both Cadenhead‘s. Less harshness and umami notes with rounded edges. Vanilla is more accentuated in this one with a vanilla creme vibe to it. Also very well balanced on the palate with fruits, crème brûlée and woodiness. All working very well together.

worlds better than the 91 / 26yr SBS TDL.

The nose is pretty boring and kind of generic. And you wouldn’t be expected this kind of sweet thick palate with caramel in all variations and dried fruits, vanilla and a lot of wood. Probably not the most complex one but overall a really great TDL.
Review by Mentalo
It needs time in the glass, but then it positively surprised me with its dirty notes, mint and light sweetness.

Quite tasty but not outstanding and unspectacular. Nice nose, pleasing and sweet on the palate. Alcohol stings a little. Addendum: After a longer time in the glass, it becomes more interesting. A few notes reminiscent of a light Caroni appear on the nose, but the sweet notes tend to recede into the background.

In itself an interesting, really old TDL with slight Caroni overtones... Overall, however, it seems strangely watered down. The finish is relatively medicinal and dirty, with notes of tropical fruits and again a lot of mint! Not bad, but on the other hand it doesn't really get me...

Somehow unround. A mixture of a longer stored, diluted neutral alcohol with a little menthol.

Ausgewogen, aber etwas belanglos. Warm und minzig

After years the rum is mild but the mint profile disapeared
