Rum Nation Diamond Small Batch Rare Rums SXG 2003
What surprises people is how green and fresh this Diamond pot-still gets on the palate — grassy herbs, green banana and a hint of olive before a smoky, roasted wood finish takes over. There's varnish, anise and prune on the nose too. One catch: give it time in the glass or the 58% bites. A whisky-cask note runs through it that most tasters didn't mind.

I sensed nuances that I was not expecting. On the nose very light esters and vegetal notes (olive?) and as in the flavor a scent of stone pine (balsamic note) which is used to flavor Italian grappas. In the mouth it is dry and slightly toasted with notes of chocolate. Finish not too long and ending with lychee (grape).A great rum full of aromas that in a tasting will greatly entertain.

Most concise, in addition to a beautifully fruity flavor, are intense varnish and roasted/woody aromas in the finish at the same time.

This is a rum that needs to rest for a while or the alcohol will bite and kind of destroy the experience. Once rested the nose is fruity with varnish and anise. There is a very light smoky note once rested. The palate is warm and lightly dry with fruit, varnish, anise and a bit more smoke than on the nose. The finish is long and warm with dried fruit and smoky wood.

Ansonsten richtig gut!

A powerful drop, the distillery is clearly recognizable. The whisky notes that the cask brings with it cannot be hidden. For me, not for every day, but it goes very well with a cigar.
