Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection (Romhatten #5) 1999
Members rank this near the top of the Romhatten line, and the only real argument is the price. It's a heavy, dark, oily St. Lucia pot-still at 66.5% — soaked raisins and cherry, dried plum, leather and furniture polish, bitter orange and a menthol streak. Very dry, faintly sweet, astringent, with a smoky-wood finish that runs almost endlessly. The alcohol sits perfectly integrated.

Another retaste and I stick to my initial score. This is the bomb of Chairman’s Reserve. A very intense and well balanced rum. I was very locky to get a sample and I like it a lot. The nose is intense and has smoky wood and fruit trailed by cinnamon and coffee. The palate takes off where the nose left. A warm and intense rum, yet well balanced with smoky wood, fruits and spices. The finish is extremely long and warm with smoky wood, dried fruits and spices. Price to quality can be argued, when I compare it to my other old Chairman’s Reserve rums for which I paid less than half :-)

A truly exceptionally good Chairmans with a complex aroma profile that evokes associations with 94er REVs. Dried plum, cherry, menthol, esters, leather, wood, and cinnamon define the basic character from nose to palate. Sweetness is barely noticeable and the alcohol is perfectly integrated. Of course, the value for money is debatable.

17-10-2025 - Rate 8.8 05-12-2025 - Rate 8.6 One of the better bottles from Romhatten. Have tasted all bottles from Romhatten and this one might make it to top 3. Nose of wood, leather, methanol and burnt sugar. Palate of raisins, wood, leather and it’s very dry. Medium finish dominated by wood and dried raisins. 31-01-2026 - Rate 8.7 Nobilis Warehouse Tasting #4 An extra treat from Kenneth to taste against Nobilis St. Lucia bottle we had before this one.

Great nose! A mix of fruits, slightly dried, and leather/polish, very mature. On the palate, it continues just as mature. Reminds me a bit of a 95er EMB with violets and furniture wax, then dried fruits in the finish. What an amazing cask is this? Santa Lucia strikes again. A very awesome bottling, unfortunately the high price remains.

Krasses, extremes Teil! Super seltener Jahrgang!

Toller, sehr reifer Chairman.

Approx. 400 Esters in this one. Good richness in aroma and flavor with fruity notes.
