Mount Gay Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 23 BMMG 2000
Opinion splits on this one. Almost everyone agrees it doesn't taste like Barbados — several tasters guessed Jamaica or Guyana blind. The nose wins people over: pineapple, marzipan, yellow fruit and a light glue-and-smoke funk. The palate divides — some love the fruit and chocolate, others find it too woody, dry and tannic, with alcohol that pokes through at 54.4%.
The community says- Fruity, complex nose
- Marzipan and pineapple
- Woody, tannic palate

Aggregated from 72 community reviews.
Atypical Barbados pot still, fruity nose, oaky palate Loved for its atypical, fruity nose; the palate splits people between chocolate-and-pineapple fans and those who find it too oaky, dry and bitter. Alcohol not always well integrated.

This is a very atypical but delicious Rum from Mount Gay🤤Blind you’ll never say this is a MG 😅 The alcohol is integrated well. Some atypical tastes in mouth and finish with some notes of licorice, tobacco and a nice taste of the oak barrel. It‘s an awesome everyday rum with a good price per value ratio. I see this one slightly behind the 2000 MG from S.B.S Update: Found some nice licorice and rubber notes 😜 The second sip was a lot better, more impressive. By far the best from mount gay🤤🤤 enjoyed it a lot

Tasted as a 5cl sample. Very atypical nose for Mount Gay and Barbados in general. Pineapple, yellow stone fruit, mirabelle plum, marzipan, vanilla, spices, wood and subtly smoky. A great nose that I would never have attributed to Barbados. In terms of taste, it is a little more in the direction of Barbados. The pineapple aroma is special here. Very mild, with a nice heavy consistency and a long finish. A top rum that I can't criticize. So far my favorite rum from Barbados.

A strong smokiness that fades with time and gives way to pineapple and lychee, which can also be found in the taste together with some chocolate. The whole thing is not Hampden Funky, but it is still exceptional in its own way. The finish is again completely different, leathery and nutty with some tobacco. Dry leather remains on the palate for a long time.

I blindly guessed it to be Clarendon. It has a lot of bitter almond and marzipan in the taste. But if you know it, it is of course a typical Mount Gay. PLV very good!

Usually I find Mount Gay quite dry and spicy, but this is quite enjoyable. I had this as a comparison of different bottlings of this Marque, and found this to be the best variant, albeit by a small margin only.

We tasted four Mount Gay 2000 releases at the Rum-X Community Tasting. The tasting was very entertaining, but the rums only made a small contribution. Overall, the rums were very similar, the differences lie in the nuances. Personally, I don't like the profile that much, as the fruit is simply missing. Even in the post-tasting, it is difficult to perceive new nuances in the fourth. Leading notes: banana and cereal (keyword: banana wheat 🤫), peach and peach iced tea are also new. In terms of taste, the rum club is venturing into new realms. It is significantly fruitier but also more acidic: pineapple and various citrus fruits, almost Jamaican. The floral notes remain in the background. The finish is not particularly exciting - the acidity almost takes over.

A rather atypical Barbados representative. In addition to fruity notes on the nose, there is also smoke, wood and a sweetness reminiscent of marzipan. The palate then turns back to the fruit notes with orange, mandarin and yellow fruits. Leather and barrel on the finish. I like it! 👍

05.04.2024 Mount Gay Extreme Rare online tasting mit Dirk. Retasting and I still think this is a pretty good release. Price to quality is very good in my mind. ----------------------- Typical barbados rum from nose to finish. Price to quality is very good. The nose is fruity and has light smoky wood to it and some vanilla after resting. The palate is typical Barbados with lots of fruit and smoky wood, vanilla and chocolate is trailing. The chocolate gets more obvious once the glass is empty and has been standing for a while. The rum draws nice curtains in the glass. The finish is long and warm with smoky wood and tropical fruits.

Out of a small cross tasting: Rum Mercenary is the most lifely with some floral notes while the other three have a more similar profile. Rum Cask is very well balanced an approchable. RumClub feels the most intense with some funky notes. The Duchess is the most elegant out of the bunch and my personal winner.

A beautiful interplay of yellow fruit (mirabelle plum), wooden barrel and spices on the nose. This continues on the palate: toasty, spicy notes alternate with candied fruit and chocolate. The finish is spicy and rather dry.

Nose: I would definitely describe it as dirty. Fruity and sweetish, but also smoky and reminiscent of plastic. The fruit is something between green apple and floury papaya, the sweetness something between honey, burnt sugar and marzipan. There is also some cookie dough. I like it overall. Palate: strong, spicy, a little fruity. Salty and bitter at first. Clearly resinous and rooty with a slight hint of mint. Also peppery with cardamom. The light fruitiness is difficult for me to discern, perhaps in the direction of grapefruit peel? There is some vanilla and leather at the back. Remains salty and bitter in the finish, with freshly cut branches at the very back. Nice nose, but too bitter on the palate for me.
