The high age suits the rum well and brings thanks to the wood influence still a little more vanilla melt from the bourbon barrels. Also overall with recognizable proximity to American whiskies with fresh oak, present spice of pepper, cinnamon and cloves, concise toffee, dried fruit and subtle minerality. Very good Foursquare representative.

2 Edit: Currently one of my favorite mixers as CubaLibre Edit: once again taken out of the cupboard. It simply remains one of the best ECS. Unfortunately, it was too expensive at the time. Very successful bottling. Proud age. Very fine notes in the taste

Very inviting and relatively intense nose with a pleasant sweetness, lots of spices, dried fruit, coconut, gr.nuts, chocolate and caramel. The palate is also very intense and round with a pleasant sweetness. For me, one of the best FS bottlings! Surprisingly far behind in the blind tasting today. Form of the day?

Similar to the 2008 and therefore just as phenomenal. Very complex and balanced. Of course all the typical FS aromas are there, whether the additional years in the bourbon cask have produced an even better rum compared to the 2008 is hard to say, but what's the point. Very good overall, especially the delicious pineapple/mint note on the nose.

A Foursquare that has taken the time of aging to refine its aromas. The nose is very versatile, sometimes fruity (exotic fruits, dried fruits, coconut, a hint of red fruits) sometimes greedy (chocolate, brown sugar, caramel, nuts), spicy (vanilla, pepper), we feel a note of glue that grows as the rum opens. Leather, tobacco and menthol also come through. A solid and engaging nose. The attack in mouth is rather direct. The profile is greedy, oriented towards rather dark notes (roasted and toasted notes, mocha, chocolate, nuts, sweet spices with cinnamon and licorice) that accompany burnt sugar, caramel, coconut and dried fruits. The alcohol is well integrated and the whole is very round, soft and fine. The finish, a bit short in terms of length, is focused on spices, wood, dried fruits and tobacco. The dark chocolate settles in progressively and develops a greedy note that leaves a very pleasant final impression on the palate. It is not a revolutionary Foursquare, but the profile more woody and darker than usual has the merit to make the distillery go out of the beaten tracks and to propose something more complex and a little less one-dimensional. A very nice bottling.

Foursquare mid-range, very good in the house line. You don't have to run after it.

This sample has been on a long trip. All the way from Barbados actually and I just couldn't wait because I was told its really good. Right off the bat, yes, a great rum and I do hope I can get a bottle. The nose is nice and well rounded with wood, minty chocolate and dried fruit trailed by vanilla, tobacco and leather. The palate is complex and well balanced with oak and dried fruit trailed by chocolate, vanilla, caramel and tobacco. The finish is long, intense and well balanced between wood, chocolate and dried fruit. Try to leave the empty glass for a while and whiff it again :-)

I can understand why Foursquare has so many fans. Especially when they are more mature, the Rums. Nose: beautifully fruity, sweet and sour fruit such as gooseberry, pineapple and passion fruit together with the typical coconut. Fine cocoa and a light aroma of apple cider vinegar. Oh, now a little mint is added, rounded off with candied fruit. Balanced and very pleasant. 8,6 Palate: spicy and woody, again with tart fruit, passion fruit. With bitter-sweet orange and lemon zest. Here, too, the fine taste of coconut. A little nutty on the finish before the tart fruit returns. Nice depth, a little too bitter, but overall a good drop. 8,4

Tasted again at the Village 2024 in Nuremberg. Of the last ECS releases, up to the Covenant, I like it best. In contrast to the Covenant, which was too dry for me, the Isonomy has just the right amount of wood for me.

Completely different profile especially on the nose as usual with foursquare. Very much tropical fruit, including even kiwi and pineapple. Taste spicy, sour fruity and very intense. furry sour kiwi and pineapple, as well as orange peel meets dark chocolate and a touch of mint and black pepper. I like it very much and is really time something different compared to the otherwise quite manageable foursquare profile!

8,7:On the nose, toasted oak with chocolate, leather, roasted nuts, vanilla, some black tea, tobacco, dried fruits like raisins and apricots, coconut, round, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, caramel and baking spices are out, pineapple, banana, citrus and red fruits, flowery molasses. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is sweet, balanced, brown with toasted oak notes like caramel, roasted nuts, burnt sugar, pastry, biscuits, leather, later dark chocolate, spicy with vanilla, baking spices, slightly resinous, fruity with dried fruits like raisins and apricots, coconut, citrus fruits, some candied, round, as the molasses is earthy with tobacco. 8,7:The finish is long, dry and tannic, balanced, with minty, flowery molasses, earthy, toasted oak, spicy, dried figs, raisins and citrus fruits, coconut.

The oldest Foursquare ECS in 2023 (until the next one, slightly older is out). Very well rounded; a nose of dried fruits, and spices, with notes of chocolate, fresh fruits, leather and hints of oak. A powerful rum

You pour the rum into the glass and already notice Foursquare. Vanilla, baking aromas, tropical fruit with a little coconut, the woody notes are all quickly present and extremely pleasant. Very smooth and finely distilled on the palate. The tropical fruits give a nice presence here but tend to swim along with spicy, woody impressions. Some citrus fruit now comes through and is also drawn into the nose. The finish is also very soft and balanced. Perhaps a little too much already, but it's simply great blended. The 17 years of tropical maturation are of course noticeable, so perhaps you're at the zenith of good taste, but who knows 🙂

"It doesn't concern me as much as some I find. I can still enjoy 40% ABV sippers. This is one of the best ECS releases to date. Probably the best in the ex-bourbon only line up. If you can find a bottle then you won't be disappointed Happy hunting!"Read full review →
