Romdeluxe Skeldon Wild Series Rum No. 20 (Unicorn Set Vol 1) SWR 2001
Best sipped neat with a good rest in the glass — several tasters say the alcohol calms right down and the fruit comes through. Woody, roasted, with raisin, plum and vanilla, plus chocolate and mocha on the finish. It's the palest of the 2001 Skeldons, and reviews split on whether it earns the name: some love the balance, others find it thin and sharp for 64%.

8,5:On the nose, slightly alcoholic, roasted wood, smoky, spicy withcaramel, vanilla, rubber, menthol, various fruits like dried apricots, raisins, apples, yellow fruits, flowery molasses, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, mirabelle plum and citrus fruits arise, the molasses is sweet with honey, milk chocolate, leather, nuts and anise join the game...reminiscent of Uitvlugt. 8,1:On the palate, the attack is warm, alcoholic, sharp, the wood is toasted, smoky, spicy with cinnamon, vanilla, various fruits arise with raisins, plum and green fruits, as the molasses is green, sweet with honey, musty, flowery. Some metallic patina might be recognized. 8,2:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, with toasted oak notes like chocolate, caramel, confectionery, smoky, slightly burnt, spicy with allspice, fruity with green, citrus fruits, raisins, the molasses is slightly flowery. Vollkatastrophe! Was ging denn hier schief?

I like this one. Despite the ABV the rum comes off warm and not alcoholic once rested. Really nice balance between fruit, wood and spices and I like the chocolate on the finish. The empty glass reveals even clearer flavours.

One can already perceive the Skeldon profile, but the alcohol is not well integrated. Unlike the other 2001 Skeldon, this is very bright, so uncolored.

Mit Abstand am hellsten der 11 probierten Skeldons. Starke Haselnuss Note.

On the nose: Had to let this rum sit in a glass. Quite mild and thin on the nose for a 64% rum and compared to other 19 year old skeldons. Woody, raisin dominate the profile. Roasted. Maybe hints of mocca. Taste: Alcoholic burn . Woody. Raisin. Vanilla. Chocolate. Mocca Notes are quite thin/shallow and are missing the depth that you would expect from skeldon rums Finish: Again warm and alcoholic. Chocolate notes. Raisin notes. Quite thin notes. I have to agree with the others that this rum is too alcoholic and quite weak on the flavours, especially when its comes to its peers

First of all, the enormously lighter color is noticeable compared to some other 2001 Skeldons. The nose and the taste are also clearly different in comparison. The alcohol is unfortunately extremely present and anything but well integrated. For me, this is unfortunately one of the worst Skeldons on the market, which feels nothing like a classic Skeldon. For me, the color screams primarily continental maturation, so I would be interested in the key data... But I would never blindly guess Skeldon here, but rather Port Mourant. The main problem, however, remains the really incredibly poorly integrated alcohol.
