DDL El Dorado 5
Butterscotch and creme brulee lead the nose, then brown sugar, vanilla and a little Demerara smoke on the palate. The body runs thin for a 5-year-old and the finish turns dry and slightly hot. Most tasters treat this as a mixer, not a sipper — one member says the sugar notes dominate. Good in a rum and coke, less rewarding neat.

This one became a favorite with my friends once I made a daiquiri with it. El Dorado 5 year old Fresh lime juice Maple syrup Mix rate 2/1/1 1 Banana 1 Fresh vanilla bean Scrape out the vanilla bean and put everything into a blender with ice cubes. If you have a high ABV demerara you can add one part to add a kick to it.

Actually quite okay, had expected worse. Vanilla, toffee and butterscotch on the nose, then vanilla, cookies and cask on the palate. Unfortunately a little too sweet for me personally.
Review by Solidfunk
Strong creme brulee and butterscotch vibe right in the beginning. Kind of stays either you and dominates the aroma for a while. The finish comes off a little dryer than expected given the flavour, and the overall body is a little thin compared to their more aged stuff. It's like you can taste the promise of something good to come. Bottle.

Not much smell to it. The aroma is a bit of vanilla and the slightest hint of dried fruit and wood, and it is pretty hot. The taste is fairly alcoholic and muted. There is mostly honey, caramel and vanilla. Letting it sit gives it more of a butterscotch taste and some wood comes through. Finish is short and hot.
Review by Jarrod Smith
Sugary nose. Nutty, chocolaty, fairly complex but slightly alcoholic flavor. The pleasant flavors give way to astringency rather quickly. Ace mixing rum.

Basic and slightly sweet with a bit of wood spice. I bought this to see if DDL's lightly aged rum has an interesting flavor. It's not bad, but it's not interesting. This is a mixer. I won't rebuy. Hamilton 86 is cheaper and more versatile.
Review by Vycas
Great for mixing not really a sipper. Pint glass full of ice, 6oz can of sprite, top up with El do 5, stir.

Sprawił mi dużą przyjemność. Dardzo fajny, prosty i przyjemny daily dram. Zapowiada się na bardzo porządny mixer Zapach: figi, daktyle, słony karmel, wanilia, lekko metaliczny Smak: słodki, daktyle figi, czekolada, kawa, słony karmel, maślany, pikantny Aftertaste: kawa, butterscotch z solą i cukierki kakaowe, maślany, karmel

good as a mixer
Review by Mark Leggett
Somewhat sweet with alcohol, toffee and barrel. Not really a great sipper but makes a good rum and coke, all the good flavors come out then while hiding the least desirable ones.
Review by Rum man
A basic but decent rum. Does nothing wrong but also does not excel much anywhere. You cannot blame it because of its price. However, I would prefer the 3 year old version over the 5 year old version. This rum is definitely a mixer.

Le nez est très agréable
Review by PeixeGato
Light body, a bit of caramel, but a little medicinal on the finish. There’s a little bit of heat too. Probably best in cocktails rather than sipping neat.
Review by Max13
Very pleasant with a slight burn on the finish. Sugar notes dominate.

V chuti cítim alkohol (whisky?), vanilku, kokos a dym.
Review by Reeb Barbill
Tastes like ice cream. Smokey Demerara taste like you’d expect. Kind of dries the inside of your mouth, probably cos it’s not as full of sugar as the older ones. No better or worse than the eight, probably the best value El Dorado, but overall just ok.
