Samaroli Demerara Rum 2002
Sip this one neat and give it air — the nose is the best part, all tropical fruit, burnt sugar, oak and spice, with the alcohol pushing a touch hard. On the palate it turns lighter than you'd expect: wood, licorice, coffee, dried fruit, a faint banana on the finish. The recurring gripe is that at 48% it reads a bit watered-down for a 19-year Demerara.

How does Samaroli Demerara Rum 2002 taste?
Aggregated from 12 community reviews.
Aged Demerara that reads a touch thin Clearly a Port Mourant profile that people find well-aged but a little diluted — the alcohol never fully integrates, so most call it good rather than great.

When tasting again after three months, I discovered a fine pencil drawing under the top layer, so the rum now gets three points more from me.Exciting how the taste alone has developed within three months 😉.

Good demerara rum! Pleasant to drink. Could have higher scoring, if it wasn’t diluted and watered down. Very pleasant in the nose and an interesting finish with some notes of mint, tobacco, licorice, honey. A rum for every day with a high price tag… Nose: Alcoholic, fruity, pineapple, apricot, overripe, herbal, burnt sugar, demerara sugar, roasted, oak, woody, spicy and some notes of pecan Mouth: dry, balanced, round, mild, diluted, light, fruit schnaps, bitter, overripe fruits, apricot, pineapple, licorice, leather, oak, woody, allapice Finish: medium, dry, soft, burnt sugar, honey, minty, tobacco, oak, toasted, licorice, smoky

02-09.04.2022 This was crazy week, where some friends and I rented a nice summerhouse on Rømø. The plan was to go nuts for a whole week with different rums without going overboard. The final agreement came to 6 rums a day and then enjoy nice walks or ferry rides during the day. Day 6 Notes Light in colour. Nose Wood, roasted, light earthy, orange, light floral, faint workshop, spice, prunes. Palate Oily, balanced, wood, light roasted, light tea, anise, faint caramel, light salt, light chocolate, prunes. Finish Medium long, wood, faint banana, light chocolate, faint tobacco, cinnamon.

It is a pity that the dilution does not result in a watered-down aroma, but the impression of imperfectly integrated alcohol remains despite the reduction to a higher drinking strength. Apart from that, it clearly belongs to the PM aroma spectrum. Somewhat unbalanced, therefore no higher rating.
Review by Johannes
Typical PM notes, but overall too diluted, short finish, minimal smoke/whisky notes in the finish here too.
