Habitation Velier Foursquare LFT White 2021
"Not the typical Foursquare profile," as one member puts it — and that's the whole point. This unaged, long-fermentation pot-still white throws glue, olive, lime and green vegetal notes at you, with a floral, almost Clairin-like edge. Despite the "High Ester" name, most tasters find the funk surprisingly restrained. Interesting and different, though several note it's a bit linear and could use time in a cask.
The community says- Genuinely atypical
- Floral citrus notes
- Spirity heat

How does Habitation Velier Foursquare LFT White 2021 taste?
Aggregated from 94 community reviews.
Atypical unaged Barbados white, glue and olive People find this a genuinely atypical Foursquare — glue, olive and citrus over a floral base. Divisive: some love the complexity, others find it thin, hot, and less estery than the name promises.
Curious drinkers who want an unusual, high-proof white with vegetal, glue-forward character
Anyone expecting classic sweet Foursquare, or a smooth easy sipper

Overall a very interesting rum from Foursquare which is partly reminiscent of white Jamaica rum and Rivers Antoine. My good friend Björn “Romsoffan” offered me a glass of this somehow different Foursquare at Foursquare Appreciation Day, released by Habitation Velier. It’s what Richard Seale call, a Long Fermentation Type (LFT). It’s a Pot Still from both molasses and cane juice with Esters 555 gr/hlpa, which is the same level as HLCF from Jamaica.

My first thought was that this shouldn't be bottled. I think if Velier wasn't behind it, the cut here would be worse. Ester and Foursquare is really exciting. But not my cup of tea. If something like this was still stored with barrel ageing at Foursquare, I'd be thrilled. The ageing could take the beastliness out of the distillate.

Day 6 RumX Rarities. An explosion of flavors on the nose: fruit, artichoke, wood wax, banana cake. The palate is fairly smooth, even if you can feel the watts. Dark vegetal aromas and very bitter chocolate beans. But also a clear floral edge. The finish is fairly short, but there's still a soft, almost sweet edge. The empty glass resembles this rum, with great complexity but little depth. For my taste, the aging is lacking.

Ich weiß zwar nicht, was an dem Rum high Ester sein soll, aber insgesamt gefällt er mir sehr gut. Schön ausbalancierter weißer Rum, der am Anfang fruchtig, dann leicht adstringierend ist.

An unaged one that I really like, I wouldn't have thought so. I'll try it again as a mixer.

This is a retasting and I stick to my initial score 😊 ----- Velier really knows how to pick them. A well balanced white with fruit and light spices and a lovely floral note. Well rounded and dry on the palate and there is a very light minty note in the profile. The empty glass is really nice.

Nachverkostung im Rahmen der RumX Rarities Experience… Ich finde das Experiment von Foursquare immer noch interessant und lecker. Diesmal fand ich die Klebstoffnote viel deutlicher.

Very interesting white rum. Could also be a very good round Worthy Park. I hardly notice the high esters. The long fermentation makes me think more of Clairin. A mild, round, drinkable white rum for the %. I just don't see any possible use for this rum. Too expensive and unspectacular to drink straight. It lacks something special for mixing (and is far too expensive).

Not that long but very interesting tasting ! A little harsh at start but developing nice fruit aromas and menthol finish ! En resume, mes notes de degutation : Au nez : Olive, Canne à sucre, Colle, Herbe, Zeste de citron, Abricot En bouche : Agrumes, Citron vert, Fruits tropicaux, Fruits jaunes La finale plutot orientee vers : Mentholé, Canne à sucre, Zeste de citron

A very atypical white Foursquare, whose name "High Ester" unfortunately does not represent much. On the nose, there are many floral and vegetal notes, including olive, iodine, citrus and apple. On the palate, medicinal notes are added to the floral and vegetal notes, as well as to the citrus already present. The aromas are rather timid and dissipate quickly in the mouth, while the rum itself is a bit unbalanced and lacks aromatic tones. The finish is of very average length, pushed by very light menthol and eucalyptus notes and some fruits. A rather linear and a bit flat rum, but which should be interesting in mixology.
Review by Yves Remord
An extremely heavy rum that has nothing to do with the 2015 white. An aromatic bomb that reminds me of the Port Mourant white 2015 Habitation Velier.

The first white rum that got me excited at first. A round, creamy aroma. After sipping it vibrates the tongue, but the alcohol integrated perfectly, the vollage is very pleasant. When you press your tongue it warms the whole palate and continues into the belly. This is a bottle you need to have.

Surprisingly gentle on the nose with a floral, fruity note. A little glue is perceptible. But high ester? Rather no. The palate is dominated by herbal aromas and some citrus fruits. The finish also lingers with herbal aromas. This is a different kind of Foursquare, good but not outstanding

Road Rummers S8 T2 - Barbados tasting Wow this is a beautiful white. Unfortunately the price is not so beautiful. This is a white I would not mix because it has a nice complexity. Looking forward to drinking more LFT's.

Rarely experienced such an incomprehensible confusion when tasting. Nose first full broadside artificial vanilla aroma of Dr. Oetker, taste then iodine, herbs, medicine, olive, very Vegetabil. Unfortunately, even in the daiquiri not my case. I would never guess foursquare! Will probably lie in the long fermentation😄
Review by Mc Pirate
Very vegetal, ester-like nose, reminiscent of a Jamaican. A touch of chestnut honey tickles the second nose. Sweet mouthfeel! Impressive compared to the nose! Very fruity and sweet, finishing on a magnificent vegetal touch that might make you think of agave!
Review by Galli33
Interesting stuff 😮💨 Unaged Foursquare — definitely more on the atypical side 😜 It actually reminds me more of a Jamaican rum. You only get that lovely FS coconut note in the finish. A nice rum that will clearly be a hit in a blind tasting.

Read full review →Alongside a hard hitting whack of floor polish, petrol and varnish. It's pretty fantastic. Ti Punch it works excellently as well giving a really sharp yet sweet hit to the drink. A Daiquiri is a bit mental as well. As a sipper I'd probably look elsewhere but as a mixer...
