10.12.1999 Went for a relaxing evening here and they had this exciting rum on the shelf. A very nice place with a lot of wine in the basement. Notes. Medium dark colour. Slightly different in profile. Nose: Wood, grass, light leather, raisin, orange, floral. Palate: Well rounded, fresh, grass, floral, cinnamon, citrus, spice, medium dry. Finish: Medium long, wood, roasted, spice, dried fruit, medium dry. 4.5 of 5 stars which should amount to 9.0 in today's rating.

Un JM de 1985 âgé de 10 ans. Le nez se pare d’un joli boisé, sur lequel fond des notes de fruits secs et de fruits exotiques. Viennent ensuite un déluge d’épices en tout genre (muscade, cannelle, vanille et poivre), des notes de cuir, de fruits à coque (noix) et un soupçon d’arôme rôti. Après aération, les notes de sucre brun viennent ajouter de la rondeur au nez. On retrouve l’esprit JM avec la gourmandise et la complexité attendues. L’attaque en bouche est assez franche de premier abord, avec un profil très orienté sur les épices, l’amertume végétale, le tabac, le cuir et le bois. Après aération, les fruits secs (raisin) et l’acidité des agrumes se font plus présents. L’ensemble est homogène et l’alcool est bien intégré. La finale, assez longue, revêt un profil épicé et boisé. Bien qu’on ressente l’origine agricole, le tabac et les fruits secs virevoltent dans la bouche. Clairement une version plus jeune et donc plus pêchue de ce Millésime. Il reste très agréable, très accessible pour éviter l’overdose végétale de certains rhums agricoles. En comparaison à son homologue de 15 ans d’âge, ce rhum est plus direct dans son approche olfactive. Il est dans l’ensemble plus fruité, légèrement plus « vert » et plus tonique en bouche. La richesse de JM s’exprime au travers de deux rhums issus du même Millésime, deux profils pourtant bien différents et dont la préférence dependra de ce qui est recherché. Une franche réussite que la distillerie peut inscrire dans son patrimoine.
