Rhum Chantal Comte Maison La Mauny La Tour De L‘Or 2006

Sipped neat, this is a cask-strength Martinique agricole that leans dark and woody more than grassy. Expect vanilla, almond and caramel up front, then a wave of pepper, cinnamon and toasted oak, with dried apricot and orange zest trailing a long, warm finish. Several tasters called it a "Holzbombe" — a wood bomb — yet the 57.7% stays remarkably well integrated.

Woody, complex cask-strength Martinique agricole Loved across the board as an elegant, complex agricole with perfectly buried alcohol. Some find it more woody-gourmand than classic grassy agricole, and one taster found the pepper a touch much.

Very nice Agricole. Top!!!The nose like a chord on the guitar, harmonious, very complex, but individual facets are difficult to taste out. Perfect in the mouth. The 2001 is my favorite, still absolute recommendation to buy, as this will be a collector's item in a few years.

another top Chantal Comte La Tour De L'Or! From memory, however, I would say that the 2001 was a little better and more intense. Many thanks for the sample to Vienna!

Now that we're at it we decided to crack open this one as well and we're really happy that we did, because we all agreed that it's even better than the 2005. The nose is very fruity with almonds and vanilla with sone toasted oak added to it. The palate is wonderfully balanced and complex with fruit, cinnamon and vanilla. Then to add to the wonderful experience some smoky oak. The finish is forever and warm/woody with orange zest and marzipan.

Color: Bright red-brown Aroma: Sweet, elegant, fruity and delicious. Aromas of candy floss and cake batter, vanilla and almond. The fruitiness is reminiscent of strawberries, raisins and Mon Cherie. Taste: Round and spicy. Aromas of Black Forest gateau, raisins, cognac and toffee. There is also a hint of herbal toffee. Finish: Long Woody, peppery and spicy. Also cognac and toffee. Dry and pleasantly woody in the aftertaste. 88 points
