Poured blind, this fools almost everyone — tasters guessed Savanna, Hampden, even Haitian clairin before landing on Martinique. Overripe strawberry, olive brine, fermented tropical fruit and glue up front, then young virgin oak brings a smoky, tannic edge on the finish. At 50% the alcohol sits well hidden. A few found the wood-plus-funk mix disjointed, but most call the balance genuinely good.

8,4:On the nose, esters and fermented, overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, banana bump into our nosetrils, with ripe strawberry, citrus, intense, quite pungent, with a help of an olive, slightly roasted young wood with caramel and glue. On aeration, spices arise, mostly with vanilla, confectionery with yeast, white chocolate, flowery and herbaceous, mineral sugarcane notes, fruits like berries, apricots and grapes. 8,1:On the palate, the attack is pungent, with a combination of esters, polish, brine, olive and fermented tropical fruits, nice peaches, grapes, sour and bitter.Luckily slightly roasted, smoky wood comes to neutralize this pungency with white chocolate, confectionery notes and spices like vanilla, pepper.With resting the rum, vegetal aspect instills itself with flowery, grassy and herbaceous touch. 8,3:The finish is long, funky with notes from the palate, more balanced as before, with agricole notes as rounding act, white chocolate is delicious...

For me, confusingly similar to the Velier-Clairin from the 11th GRF (RX13301). And that one didn't taste good to me either, unfortunately. 🤷♂️ So not only that I would have blindly guessed the wrong country with Haiti, this Agricole from Martinique doesn't particularly turn me on at the palate (whiskey impression, not my cup of tea at all); which is a pity, because when opening the bottle, promising exotic-sweet funk sounds hit me in the nose. The light coffee note in the finish, however, reconciles me again a bit with the unpleasant previous impression on the palate.

Would I have in the blind tasting after the first sip somewhere at Jamaica with whiskey finish.... Beyond the colorful mixture of strawberry-peach-pineapple-grape, fermented aromas to the palate a little olive it goes here just a little smoky. Exciting variety.

A mixture of Savanna Grand Arome (strawberries, vanilla) and Hampden high ester (yoghurt, buttery) on the nose. On the palate, the notes from the Virgin Oak cask come through clearly. The finish also has tannins, strawberries and brine.

#6 RumXHighE(a)ster weeks: Blind tasting: Savanna approx. 15 years of aging 60% mid ester Very fruity, spicy with a mix of strawberry + Yoghurt (Like yogurette, you know) Result: Oh dear, this was a bad prediction. Lovely mix of strawberry and yoghurt, ester and other fruits in the nose. A good balanced rum. The alcohol is integrated well.

C: bright gold N: creamy, Greek yogurt, tropical fruit (papaya, pineapple). It slowly develops a smoky flavor to it..then I start sensing some brine in the background. P: woo, it is definitely something new to me.. the first notes I get are brine and olives stuffed with meat. The smokiness is now more like barbecue-esque. F: ham, salty, brine, smoky

Blind verkostet im Rahmen der E(a)sterweeks 2022 - Day 6 Nase: sofort Assoziationen mit Hampden leichte rauchigen Anklänge. Gaumen: rauchig und würzig, ein wenig wie Clarain. Starke Ähnlichkeit mit Grappa bzw. Wein. Nachklang: mittellang, rauchig Sehr interessant, Alkohol ist sehr gut eingebunden, ein Potpourri verschiedener Stile verschiedener Destillen.

Blind Tasting, #Easterweeks Day 6: My money's on Savanna. Nose: sweet, fruity towards yogurette but also pineapple. Palate: also sweet, mild, fruity, grape sugar. Finish: salty and sweet fruity at the same time. Alcohol I guess max 50%, rather less. Overall tasty, but for the direction Savanna me then too well-behaved, especially with regard to the percentages.

Ein sehr ungewöhnlicher Rum… als hätte er sehr lange in einem rauchigen Whiskyfass gelagert! Obwohl ich rauchigen Whisky mag, passt es hier für mich nicht so richtig! Da ist auch eine Süße und diese vergorene Frucht, das alles insgesamt nicht so stimmig

Rum X Easter 22.4.22: Der Rum ist sehr geschmeidig. Wenn auch viel Geschmack und Aromen da sind. Nicht so konzentriert und dreckig aber sehr edel. Ich tippe heute auf einen Clarendon. So um die 14/15 Jahre, zirka 55%. Bei den Marks kenn och mich nicht so aus. So um die 200-400 Ester.

Tag 6 im RumX-Ester-Kalender, blind: Nase: Easy one. Als geübter Rumtrinker erkennt man Hampden sofort (HAHA!). Ananas, Cremig wie Joghurt, kennt man ja, aber eine ungewöhnliche Erdbeernote. Durchaus intensiv und sauer, C<>H war doch schon dran?? Gaumen: Hmm, was ist denn das? Plötzmich kein Hampden mehr, vielleicht Fiji? Mineralisch und salzig, durchaus tropische Früchte, wieder Ananas, etwas Traube? Ich kann ihn aber in keine der typischen Fiji-Ecken stecken. Abgang: Plötzlich wird es grasig-erdig, ist das jetzt Agricole??? Ich verstehe nichts mehr… Nach der Auflösung: WOW, was für eine tolle Ergänzung für den Ester-Kalender! Schön hinters Licht geführt, völlig verwirrt und obwohl ich schon viel probiert habe doch noch ein ganz neues Land! Chapeau an die Auswähler

Typisches aber extrem gut ausgewogenes Le galion Profil. Das Virgin oak rundet gut ab ohne zu viel Frucht und Funk weg zu nehmen! Schöne Mischung aus überreifen Erdbeeren, roten Trauben, Apfelessig, olivenlake vergorenem Obst und Jungem Holz. Der SBS Le galion PX cask ist glaub noch ein Tick besser aber das ist meckern auf hohem Niveau, dafür ist hier die Preis Leistung exzellent mit ca. 65€. Chapeau david von Rum stylez schönes Ding! 💪🤤

La robe est d’un jaune plutôt clair (normal au vu de son jeune âge) Le nez est plutôt puissant avec des notes végétales et herbacées, des solvants jamaïcains. On retrouve donc des esters, de l’olive, des fruits tropicaux … le tout s’enrobant dans l’atmosphère d’une file d’attente de chez le pharmacien. A l’aveugle on serait parti chez Savanna … En bouche c’est explosif et complexe, cela part dans tous les sens comme un feu d’artifice. On est vraiment sur quelque chose d’expérimental et sans contrôle ! C’est porté sur le végétal, l’herbe fraichement coupée au matin, du raisin sec, du vernis … La finale est toujours aussi intrigante sur le sirop mais avec un profil plus tannique (dû au fût neuf). Rhum idéal pour mettre dans une line up à l’aveugle pour piéger les copains !

An der Nase noch relativ typisch für Le Galion mit Estern von Tropenfrüchten, aber auch einem leicht beerig-mentholigem Einschlag; dazu Karamell und dezente salzige Olivennoten. Am Gaumen tritt einerseits eben diese in der Nase nur periphär wahrnehmbare salzige-mineralische Note, aber auch der Fasseinfluss stärker in den Vordergrund; es wird intensiver, röstiger, mineralisch, die Frucht verliert etwas an Präsenz und auch die Harmonie im Geschmacksprofil verliert sich etwas. Ein aromatisch intensives Erlebnis mit toller Nase, das am Gaumen zwar Komplexität bietet, diese aber leider nur auf Kosten der Ausgewogenheit anzubieten vermag.

A Le Galion was the first rum off the Botucal / Don Papa range, which I had bought until then and now I have finally found after six years, which has a similar flavor profile, as the rum then, even if who is twice as expensive.Nevertheless, I am very happy to have found this rum - this mixture of fuel, vanilla, banana and acidity in a real balance.For two years of barrel aging can really what - the alcohol you can not taste despite the 50% at all.But I can also understand the comparisons with Savanna very well.-Tasty !
