The Duchess Long Pond Jamaica 20 LPS 2001
Sip this one neat, and give it 15-20 minutes to open — several tasters found the glass gets better with air. The nose is loud with ester, fermented pineapple, green banana and vanilla; a few people mistook it blind for a Hampden. The palate turns drier and woodier than the nose promises, with grapefruit and a sour, acidic edge. A classic funky Long Pond.
The community says- Massive ester nose
- Ripe pineapple, banana
- But: Sour, acidic palate

Ester, as far as the nose reaches... in addition fermented pineapple, delicate vanilla and some citrus... there are almost comparisons to the Hampden C<>H on the palate, also here pushes on comparisons... however, swing here clear nuances of marzipan with .... as well as the finish, would be the alcohol better integrated, the rating could be significantly higher!A strong, but not comfortable rum! With rough edges

An absolute grenade! One of my top 5 rums. The LPS is almost perfect. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. Ester is balanced and not intrusive. Very slightly spicy with subtle vanilla.

Rum X Advent 6.12.2023 Leckeres Teil.

Superbe Long Pond. Une vraie bombe aromatique. Alcool bien intégré. Grosse longueur. Très joli rhum !
Review by Chrischi78
Nicht mein absoluter Long Pond Favorit!

Day 6 RumX Calendar The first intuition should simply be trusted jamaica, ~60%, long pond. Delicious stuff, I had guessed the Sponge because I remembered it being just as tasty, but oh well Conclusion: very good rum

Second tasting: Reducing my note from 86 to 83. Very nice nose but needs a little more power in the mouth where I find it a little weak. Still a nice mix of ester, wood, spices and pineapple.

RumX-Adventskalender 06.12.2023 Inviting nose, epically long finish, but too sour on the palate for me. LP and I will probably no longer be friends ...
Review by mto75
The 2001 LPS that I've had in my glass so far somehow seemed less 'estery' to me from memory. This one can easily keep up with an HD C<>H, also similar in profile, with properly fermented fruit, sour cream; also on the palate, where it becomes rather sour at the end...

Great Long Pond, I like it very much, just as I imagine a decent Jamaican to be. In any case, we have esters and tropical fruits again, especially pineapple and banana, with the banana appearing slightly overripe on the palate.
Review by LukaŽiga
8,6:On the nose, medicinal with esters, solvents, nail polish and glue, funky, fermented tropical fruits like banana, citrus fruits with lime, vinegar, briny olive, smoky wood and marzipan, meaty, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, molasses is grassy, rubber is burnt, dairy, cookie dough and vanilla come out. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is intense with medicinal notes like esters, funky, fermented tropical fruits like pineapple and banana, citrus fruits, dairy notes like cream, vegetal with briny olive, grassy, fresh with tea, as there are wood notes like marzipan, nuts, chocolate, spicy with vanilla, smoky. 8,6:The finish is long, dry&tannic, medicinal and slightly metallic, fruits are tropical and citrus, slightly sour, molasses is herbaceous, floral, fresh with chamomile, thick with licorice, sweet with honey and the oak toasted with nuts, marzipan, vanilla, smoky.

A pleasant, not too violent nose: esters right up front, almost a bit vinegary. Behind it, immediately the typical fruity associations to ripe, tart pineapple with lime and tangerine. A slight sweetness of honey and marzipan with some vanilla and wood follow. The alcohol holds back nicely. Not as fruity on the palate as it was on the nose. Starts a bit astringent and slightly bitter and woody, then gets a dark chocolate note and some tart nuttiness. Clearly the esters come through with pineapple and citrus (grapefruit peel). And then there's a metallic umami flavor. In the finish, besides esters and pineapple, also marzipan and chamomile at the end.The decent age gives it a few tart notes along with it, causing the fruity to subside. Good LP, but also know better.

This is a very limited rum and I'm happy i got one. A true Jamaican with lots of funk and nice esters. Lightly woody from nose to finish. Fruits and vanilla completes this intense rum. There is a hint of nuts and floral notes in the back. After a few hours the glass is really nice. Leave to rest for 15-20 minutes before giving it a go.

Fruity and herbal, high on esters. A pleasant dram, I am enjoying a lot longpond from early 2000's

Nice low ester LP. Fruity ion the nose with nice woody and roasted notes on the palate.

#24DaysOfRum2023 - Day 6 Opens with volatile and fruity aromas, of which the latter has a slanted sweet and sour balance. The sweets are primarily imposed by yellow banana and vanilla; the sours are a compound of limes, kiwis, unripe pineapple, and a little too much vinegar. In true Jamaican fashion the imbalance is off-set with adding even more convolution: solvents, freshly grated ginger and some green olives take it all back on track. In the mouth we get pineapple. And lots of it. Then heavily bitter with red grapefruit that keeps triggering the tongue all the way to the finish. It’s so bitter it leans into that metallic sensation, and eventually even copper. It’s interestingly complex in this fashion, but not exactly my cup of tea. Finishes a little smoky with chamomile, which resonates further into a quite short length finish with more pineapple and more metal.

Nose gigantic but the taste then does not quite keep what is promised on the nose. Rather a bit tart, slightly bitter and not quite as much fruit and funk as hoped for, as is often the case with Continental matured Jamaicans. Still solid but here would have been a little more potential available mMn.

Let me begin by saying that i got this at auction purely trusting on RumX users reviews and honestly after a few sips of this rum, i am so happy. This rum did sit in the glass for a good 20 minutes before the review. On the nose: Esters with fermented, acidic note to it. Vanilla. Fruity notes like pineapple are perhaps more in the background. Taste: Esters, creamy mouthfeel and nice level on intensity at the start. Strong vanilla notes. Woody notes. Overripe pineapples. Spicy. Marzipan notes. Good integration of alcohol. Finish: Esters, woody notes and pineapples. Vanilla and marzipan bring sweetness. Dry. Hints of licorice notes and herbal notes at the background. Some sour, acidic notes that bring nice balance . Long finish. Again, thanks to all RumX users that reviewed this rum. This rum has good range of notes and sits in good spot in the middle of sweetness, fruityness and sourness. Im going to put this in the excellent range, because i could sip this rum all night

Alkohol erstklassig eingebunden.

RX calendar day 6 Mistaken it for a Hampden HLCF. Typical ripe tropical fruit, with very good alcohol integration, some wood noticable, long finish. Enjoyed it alot.
Review by Schnubbii
Beautiful LPS. In direct comparison with the LPS from the Wu Dram Clan, however, not as fruity, round and multi-layered. Nevertheless, a delicious piece.

Calendar #6 Not really my favourite, guessed it blind as a Fiji. Not really balanced and kind of dirty and sour.
Review by Martin Mihaly

Alkohol gut eingebunden.
Review by Sebastian.W
A nice rum with lots of fruit, pastry and almonds on the nose. I get pretty much the same notes on the palate, but the alcohol is not well integrated.
Review by Rum man
Nose: Yoghurt, sweet icing. Fruity in the first place on a background of industrial notes. Then I start to think of WP with a whiff of Hampden and something metallic. Green bananas and mango. Ester galore. After 15 minutes it starts to open up and make the surroundings smells like sweet and fruity ester. Taste: Some cinnamon. Not so fruity as the nose suggests. Green banana, some WP profile, dry. Finish: some sweet licorice, green banana. Conclusion: Missing out a bit on the taste. Could use more powe. Great nose though. Really like it.
Review by Stijn Zino
Lovely strong nose, wouldnt guess this as LPS. Very herbal palate but a bit onedimensional. Very long finish. Interesting rum.
Review by Alexander Rasch

Pěkná esterově-ovocitá vůně, ale chuť trochu zaostává a místo očekávaného ovoce přichází dřevo. Existují zajímavější Long Pondy.

If someone told me it was Hampden, I'd believe it.
