T.D.L S.B.S Trinidad 1991

"A good Rum, very woody" is how one taster put it, and that's the honest core here. Twenty-six years in cask leave it bone-dry and heavily oaked, with banana, toffee, marzipan and cinnamon underneath, plus a tarry edge a couple of members compared to Caroni. At 66.2% the alcohol runs sharp — give it plenty of air. Nutty, spice-driven, and firmly not sweet.

The community says
  • Long oak-driven depth
  • Banana and toffee
  • Sharp hot alcohol

Just finished a nice evening going through some of the samples we got from 1423. A surprisingly dry rum with a touch of Madeira.

Quite nutty on the nose and palate, reminiscent of Nutella. The very intrusive and poorly integrated alcohol, however, gives a clear point deduction.

Warm, cinnamon, barrel, molasses, spicy, Mouth tar, tobacco, banana, dried fruit, burnt sugar, slightly rubbery, vanilla. The mouth brings a good portion of caroni. I let the sample breathe for a long time. The alcohol seemed well integrated to me. Very dry finish. A good rum, but for 66 volume there is too little going on for me in addition to the Caroni note.

The nose smells very pungent solvent and does not invite at first. In the taste then much more pleasant, warm notes of banana, some oak, marzipan and cinnamon. In the finish, fruits are then added.

Karamell, Nuss, Nougat mit etwas Süße. Wenig spannende Abfüllung.

The nose is very typical : vanilla but especially caramel ! Some aromas of tobacco and fruit (banana) stand out. In mouth, we move away from the ron, it does not draw at all on the sweetness but we go straight to the wood! It is undeniable, the 26 years in barrel have done the job, it is woody and not a little! We find a little vanilla, and a little tarry touch reminding us our dear Caroni, but we quickly go back to the woody with a wide range of spices. It is very bitter. The finish is not excessively long because it dries up.
