Samaroli Hampden Caksus Jamaica Rum DOK 2009
People already into Hampden's DOK mark will feel at home here: glue, varnish and sour pineapple up front, with marzipan and mealy banana softening the edges. What's interesting is how tame it drinks for a DOK at 59% — several tasters call it surprisingly mild and round, even a little "too zahm." A few wish it hit harder; the intensity is dialed back.

How does Samaroli Hampden Caksus Jamaica Rum DOK 2009 taste?
Aggregated from 36 community reviews.
Mild, marzipan-heavy DOK that sips easy Clearly a DOK — esters, solvent, pineapple and ever-present marzipan — but unusually smooth and easy for the mark. Some love that roundness; others find it too restrained and short on the finish.

Relatively "relaxed" DOK. Solvent, marzipan, pineapple come directly to mind. Then there is some bacon and smoke. Very nice bottling!

... Hampden, legendarni jamajska destilerka, ktera krome rumu produkuje take alkohol do parfemu. Ve vsech rumech z teto destilerky ucitite divoke estery, po kterych cely vas organizmus nasakne vuni zluteho tropickeho ovoce - manga, papaji, anansu, broskvi. Jeden z rumu, ktere "must try before die"

Very restrained DOK everything is present ester fruit but somehow too little of everything. Finish light bitter notes and quite short for a Hampden. Not a bad rum but also nothing special.

Oh yes, clearly a DOK. Nose: intense, fine esters with neat fruit vinegar. Overripe, tart pineapple and mealy banana. There is also a slight sweetness of honey with a hint of marzipan. Palate: here, of course, the esters are also very intense and determinative, making it initially quite astringent. However, an interesting bacony note quickly comes through on this one, complemented by sour, ripe pineapple and a nice marzipan sweetness. On the finish, the pineapple lingers with some marzipan and it seems very slightly bitter. Crazy, after 20min I got something fishy, mackerel in Nachgeschmack🤷🏼♂️DOKs are quite simple in my view and don't deliver any distinct variety in my opinion, vary at most in subtleties. I find DOKs and other high esters but simply delicious.

8,6:On the nose, intense with medicinal notes like esters and glue, varnish, solvents, funky, fermented, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, citrus with lime, dairy notes like yoghurt, some vinegar, molasses with briny olive, grassy, floral, herbaceous, sweet with honey, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, red fruits arise, rubber, nail polish, pungent, metallic patina, smoky, spicy wood, meaty with bacon and hay. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is medicinal with esters, glue, varnish, fruity with fermented, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, hints of kiwi, papaya, mango, passion fruit, some vinegar, acidic, dairy hints. Molasses is vegetal with briny olive, grassy, fresh with tea, floral, later earthy, sweet with honey, as the wood is caramelized, swet with marzipan, nutty, spicy, meaty with bacon, smoky. 8,6:The finish is long, dry&tannic, chemical with phenol, medicinal, oak is toasted with marzipan, confectionery, caramelized, smoky, spicy, molasses is vegetal, briny, floral, herbaceous and fruits fermented tropical like pineapple, passion fruit, banana, some raspberry, joined by cream. 02-09.04.2022 This was crazy week, where some friends and I rented a nice summerhouse on Rømø. The plan was to go nuts for a whole week with different rums without going overboard. The final agreement came to 6 rums a day and then enjoy nice walks or ferry rides during the day. Day 5 Notes Light in colour. Nose Medium intense, ester, faint wood, glue, fruit, overripe, faint marzipan, faint herbs. Palate Medium dry, faint wood, varnish, ester, fruity, overripe, light marzipan, banana. Finish Long and warm, ester, fruity, light herbal, fruits, faint citrus, light sour.

Almost identical to the Rumclub Ed. 25! The ester well perceptible, but for a DOK very smooth and pleasant to drink! Already almost too tame and round! But tasty 😋

Beautiful DOK and unlike its brother actually one. Surprisingly mild and round, almost boring for a DOK. Nice marzipan note on the palate, makes it almost quaffable. In contrast to other bottlings really good drinkable.

Very mild and can be sipped away relaxed. Funky, pineapple, nail polish, ester probably do not need to mention. This bacon note I had only with the first Sipper, now only the Ester bomb comes to light.
Review by kondgab
A relatively mild DOK, yet surprisingly enjoyable as a sipper. The nose bursts with esters, pineapple, glue, marzipan, and overripe fruit. Palate mirrors the nose, with a savory bacon note subtly emerging.

Review by Wernie
Geschmeidiger DOK, zahmer als so mancher <>H. Gut trinkbar, gefällt mir. Marzipan ist allgegenwärtig. Danke dem edlen Spänder.😙
