Bacardi Reserva Ocho Rare Gold Rum 2010
Here's the surprise: at 40% several tasters call it "surprisingly sharp," with a medicinal, glue-like edge on the nose that undercuts the sweet side. Underneath sit dried apricot, raisin, caramel and vanilla, rounded off by added sugar. Most reviewers reach for it as a mixer, though a few genuinely enjoy it neat once it warms up.

How does Bacardi Reserva Ocho Rare Gold Rum 2010 taste?
Aggregated from 67 community reviews.
Sweet, dried-fruit column rum, mostly a mixer Most treat it as a capable mixer with dried-fruit and caramel notes; sugar and a thin body hold it back neat, and a few find the medicinal edge off-putting.

Echt gut! Komplex, gleichzeitig mild, leichte Esternoten.

This rum is quite alright. I always compare the Bacardis with the Carta Blanca, but of course this one is a stunner :-) Still tastes slightly alcoholic and woody. Quite quick on the finish. One of the better Bacardis.
Review by Rumpalumpa
A pretty decent rum from Bacardi. I have it primarily for mixing, where woody and warm spices come through well. Not bad neat either, perhaps a little too alcoholic. Interestingly, the smell reminds me of black olives.

This is the only Bacardi I can stomach. Really, very good. Great neat.

I usually keep this on hand as a mixer, but it got me curious as to how it would stand up on its own. Thin and subdued on the nose, making it quite hard to discover anything at all. There’s some dried fruits and chopped wood. It’s buttery and mellow, but pretty much nothing else. In the mouth more complex and less diluted than expected. Coconut and dried fruits evolve into an oily profile with lots of orange zest. Darker caramel appears with more vanilla and a hint of juniper. The sugars are quite present, but the experience isn’t overly sweetened or sticky. It drinks above its ABV, but it’s too thin to be truly enjoyable on its own. The finish is short and unexciting, leaving nothing but simple syrup.

Surprisingly sharp for 40% ABV—a decent hit of medicinal chemical on the nose. A bit sweeter than I would prefer, but an altogether pleasant candied-baking spices profile for me on the 2nd or 3rd sip.

This rum comes off very medicinal to me. I get cough syrup on the nose and then it is all I am left with on the finish. There are dried fruit and orange peel notes throughout, but I don’t see this rum as anything other than a mixer.

So no it’s not terrible but the dosing takes off lots of points right off the bat. Yes the dosing is light but on principle I don’t like it. Quite frankly an outstanding cocktail rum, but so is Havana club ocho and i’d choose the latter every time unless i wanted slightly more oak which this has.

- Pur: 3/5 - On the rocks: 2/5 - Rum Fashioned: 4/5 - Rum Cola: 1.5/5 - Rum Mule: 2/5

My favorite Bacardi along with 10YO in a new bottle. Tastes all the same, it is great. Nice sipping rum. Citrusy and apricot notes mingling with vanila and nougat. Short to medium finish is only negative and it could be more full bodied, less diluted.

Super dry and draws your mouth up, definitely a tough sipper

Continues relatively consistently what the 4er already begins. Apricot, honey-vanilla sweetness and the opposite glue and pepper.unfortunately still nothing to really take pure. Shines for it both in drinks with vermouth and with acid. Fun mixer!

Great budget sipper. Also nice to mix with
Review by Oskar Lango
Surprisingly good solo item, quite delicate. In cocktails for me quite similar to 4yo so rather not worth paying extra. In promotion you can get a bottle for around 100zl which in my opinion is already a bargain.
Review by Henry Davies
It’s a sweet and pleasant nose, vanilla, butterscotch, and some malted elements. On the mouth there is more roasted and woody notes, but overal it feels a bit thin and lacking in complexity, especially given the 8 year age statement. On the finish there are more peppery and spice notes alongside more caramel and sweet elements. Overall it feels like a mixing rum, and there are many others I would pick over it so not entirely obvious where it fits today. Think Havanna Club 7 tries to do something similar but pulls it off in a more balanced package
