Engenhos do Norte 970 Madeira Wine Cask Edition 2021 2015
The oddball surprise here is a whiff of sweat on first pour that quickly settles into juniper, musty pear, honey and cinnamon biscuit. A cane-juice agricole from Madeira aged in Madeira wine casks, so the wine really shows — vinous and round, with dark chocolate on the palate. A few tasters feared the cask would drown it in grape, but the oak stays in check and elegant.

On sent bien le fût de Madère, qui vient très bien se marier avec le côté un peu exubérant de ce rhum, un combo inattendu qui marche très bien, vraiment beaucoup de plaisir avec celui-ci!

I didn't think much of this rum, as I was certain that the Madeira fit would soak it up and make it too grapey. Far from it, the nose is very Madeira, but the palate is very pleasant and round, without becoming nauseating, where the wood takes over. A fine discovery.

Tasted at RhumFest, so tasting incomplete... A winey, barrel and spicy nose. On the palate, vanilla and dark chocolate add a gourmet touch. Unusual but very effective.

First a bit off-putting on the nose because it smells of sweat🤣but then after some time it becomes juniper, musty pear, honey, chocolate and cinnamon cookies. Barrel notes rather restrained and very elegant!
