Velier Foursquare Plenipotenziario 2007
Fruitier than most Foursquares, that's the first surprise here — mango and tropical fruit push past the usual coconut-vanilla-cocoa core. Twelve years in ex-bourbon at 60% gives toasted oak, toffee and a tobacco note several tasters loved. It runs dry and long, and a few find it a touch hot or oak-heavy. Water tames the coconut and the alcohol nicely.
The community says- Fruity and complex
- Long dry finish
- But: Can drink hot

Complex, dry, fruit-forward cask-strength Foursquare A favorite for many, called the "benchmark" Foursquare by some. Fruitier and more complex than usual, though a few find it too oaky, dry, or hot at full strength.

Powerful and complex Foursquare with a distinctly fruity structure. Pineapple and tropical fruits meet vanilla, coconut, and a clear woody spice. On the palate, it shows a spicy creaminess with orange-like notes and milk chocolate. The aromas are well integrated, cleanly balanced despite cask strength, and have lasting depth. A classic among modern Foursquare bottlings.

Foursquare will probably no longer be my favorite distillery, for me too one-dimensional and relatively interchangeable, although undoubtedly of a certain quality.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Extremely delicious one, dominated mainly by the floral notes of rose and Thai flying mango, which then alternate with nutty and chocolatey aromas. Super exciting, extremely smooth, and just the right amount of complexity, which is very rare with Foursquare. Absolutely outstanding for me! One of my favorite sipping rums now. I think this could really be my absolute favorite Foursquare!

#16th dec RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: coconut, fruity, woody, vanilla, alcoholic, spicy Mouth: coconut, orange peal, woody, spicy, cocoa Finish: long, oak, woody, toasted, roasted, sweet, coconut. Delicious I enjoyed this one a lot. Until today i’ve tried 3-4 different foursquares, but they doesn’t really blow my mind. This FS really changed my mind, it’s delicious and the alcohol is much better integrated, unfortunately the actual price tag is way too high. This is from Foursquare ca. 60% approx. 15 Years

Velier FS (+ a fee spected other contenders) blind cross tasting: Honestly, the results here were very close. The Belier bottlings display a very high quality thourgout the range. Triptych and Pleni came out on top for me closely followed by Destino. I was somewhat surprised, that Sassafras and 2006 came out rather at the bottom, while I enjoyed both very much on their own. Raconteur also quite low in the ranking with Principia clearly at the bottom.

The nose is super fruity and complex and not necessarily typical Foursquare for me. Reminds me a little of the El Dorado Diamond CBH RX5934. The taste is less fruity and more spicy with lots of wood, coconut and floral notes. Edit: Still one of my FS favorites.

Starker Foursquare.

The first Foursquare that convinced me. That was just over a year ago ... when, after Corona and the return of my sense of taste, I suddenly began to appreciate column profiles and blends made from them The rum is very, very good and brings interesting facets to the profile, which I found rather boring. Edit: Now back in the glass after a long time ... yes, it's delicious. I'll go up another point.

RumX Advent 16.12.22 N: chocolate, dried fruit, slightly soapy, spiciness, vanilla, concentrated, barrel, molasses, pastry, syrup, subtly floral, coconut. M: consistent with the nose, more spice, allspice, mint, toasted. A: peach, dry, chocolate Very concentrated and complex flavor. I wavered between NY 94 and Albion. Then decided on Yarmouth. Unfortunately, off target. Chocolate/coconut profile steered me in a different direction. Delicious rum, smooth and full-bodied.

The spiciness disappears after 30 min aeration. This gives it more honeyed notes. top.

Taste is full of bourbon and oak, after develop and you cannidentify the minerals, chocolate and ending in long smoked aftertaste.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A very tasty Foursquare that opens with notes of varnish, followed by wood, spices, vanilla and caramel, then tropical fruit, citrus and dried fruit, and finally aromas of leather and brioche that add depth to this rum with a very varied nose. The rum is complex on the palate, intense and carried by tropical fruits, cocoa, toasted and spicy notes, tobacco, toffee and wood. The aromas intermingle and are very well integrated, as is the alcohol. The fairly long finish opens with earthier, fresher flavors, with a hint of saltiness before melting into toasty, spicy and chocolate notes. An excellent Foursquare must-try that's still affordable.

Pretty good Foursquare, complex fireworks of caramel, tropical fruits, wood, cocoa and spices. I was not prepared for the sharpness in the mouth, but it goes better with the second sip or with a little water. Otherwise very bitter, furry and heavy in the mouth. In the mouth and aftertaste there is a component that I do not really like. But the nose is very tasty :-)

... Foursquare je destilerka z Barbadosu produkujici uzasne rumy ke kazdodennimu popijeni. Je to rum, ktery oceni zejmena rumari, kteri maji plne zuby cukru a hledaji jemny, nasladly rum plny kokosu, vanilky, cokolady a karamelu. Proste prijemne a nijak agresivni chute.

Rankings of 6 Velier Foursquare from cross-tasting (sans 2006 & Destinos) 1. Pleni [Excellent deep foursquare profile that sets itself apart from the pack with a delectable tobacco note and a long pleasant finish] 2. Patrimonio [I love it. The most clearly Sherry-marked of them all and it’s just an ideal complex sipper. The finish cuts out slightly too early to make it top boy] 3. Triptych [intense, flavorful, and very solid but the profile is a little too molasses syrupy for my taste] 4. Raconteur [very good but just lacks a little bit of personality compared to the ones above. The finish is also noticeably shorter compared to the top 3.] 5. Sassa [great jumping attack out the gate but the slightly astringent aftertaste drags it down] 6. Principia [too sharp, alcohol less well integrated, still a more than fine rum of course] Kudos to Leo Tomczak for samplers

Yummy! 😋 Haven’t tasted this one in quite some time and have to bump it several points this time. - Long time no taste, but yummy deluxe and bumping it a few points today. 260306: Just got myself a bottle of this gem. Still Spectacular!

The Swell and the Barbados 2006 Flag Series have been added to the big crosstasting of the Velier bottlings. Unfortunately, it has not yet been possible to get a sample of the 70th. In general, it can be said that there were no major differences on the nose when flying blind. However, there are recognizable differences in the taste itself. In my opinion, however, three clearly stand out and bring up the rear.

I have been looking forward to this tasting for a long time hoping for a slightly different Foursquare! The nose is heavy on vanilla and bourbon, more intense than ECS 2009 and 2010 but not necessarily more complex. Sweet wine I still perceive. Lots of spice on the palate but also alcoholic spiciness, lots of barrel flavors. The finish is not as long as I had hoped, is very barrel-heavy and slightly salty. At the beginning of my journey through the world of rum, I was excited about Foursquare. That has changed because the bottlings known to me from there offer little new or even held surprises and unfortunately this bottling does not change that. Conclusion: Foursquare delivers (almost) consistently high quality but does not break out of the known (narrow) profile. Nevertheless, this is a very good rum!

Foursquare par excellence!
Review by Beancheese
Was happy to get my hands on a sample of this one and it didn’t disappoint. This one had everything you’d expect out of a Foursquare rum on the nose but with a fresher fruit quality than usual. On the palate this was quite nice - you have the wood and what would usually describe as a raisin note is a little bit more like a plum here. Mix in toffee like sweetness and orange which finally settles into chocolate and more toffee and fruit.
Review by Christian Rudt
Foursquare's typical coconut, chocolate and vanilla notes are complemented here in a very strong profile by tropical fruit notes that are particularly noticeable on the palate. Definitely a great bottling. Foursquare should release another one like this.

Review by DutchRumPirate
What a wonderful Foursquare! This Foursquare is much fruitier on the nose and palate, and the spice isn't overpowering. Coconut, vanilla, cocoa, and spicy, woody notes play beautifully on the palate. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The finish is wonderfully full and long, as you'd expect from Fs. There's also a hint of sweetness in the flavor notes. This Foursquare is full-bodied and perfectly balanced.
Review by TheJona'Spirits
89/100 Excellent Foursquare by Velier.

Fruity, sweetish, round with a pleasant spiciness. Dried, sulphured fig with maraschino cherry, blackberry and grape. Clearly vanilla, fragrant wood and delicately smoky. Almost has something of cream candy about it. Soft and fruity sweet on the palate, but also spicy with vanilla and a hint of cardamom and aniseed. Some acidity and slightly bitter under the sweetness. I think it's most likely mango with orange and kumquat. It's also caramelly. Overall very smooth, full-bodied and round, but a little too sweet for me.

This is one of my favourite Foursquares and it always comes with the memory of me bottling a sample back when it first came out. This was the moment when I learned the importance of lifting the funnel a bit to prevent a spillage. However, my wife came in when I was drinking the puddle from the table and to cut a long story short, a great drop which will always have a special place in my memory.

Molto denso…insomma buono!
Review by Jussi Piirainen
On the nose: It has a typical notes like vanilla, coconut, fruits and woody notes, but here they are nicely integrated together and that's a hint to me that this should complex rum Taste: Complex. Vanilla, coconut, woody notes with intensity. Nice orange peel notes. Light cocoa/coffee notes. Light spices like cinnamon. Light tobacco notes. Finish: Roasted. Woody notes. Vanilla and coconut notes. Coffee. Dry and complex. Long finish. I really enjoyed sipping this rum until i dropped my glass on the floor. Complexity, especially in the finish and integration of notes makes this rum stand out.

RumX Advent calendar 16.12. A rum I never thought I would be able to try, but now I have ☺️ Classic Foursquare nose, toasted coconut and the age is noticeable. Also clearly Barbados in the mouth, I often miss the complexity of the island as the rum journey progresses, but this one can deliver. Barbados is no longer my favorite profile, but this is the best representative I've had the pleasure of tasting so far.

Nose: woody / bourbon (oak, vanilla), varnish, caramel. Nuts, some spices (cinnamon, tobacco). Typical Foursquare... with time, smoke appears, with a hint of mango perhaps. Palate: fairly gradual attack, slightly burning mid-palate, warm spices (paprika, bell pepper, chili), heavy vanilla wood, caramel. Medium length, with café au lait, then cocoa. Nothing incredible, just another Foursquare.
Review by Gregor

Fantastic Foursquare. There you should have once struck when it was still at halfway reasonable prices. A rum for every day.

This one is nice. A good mix of the usual Foursquare trinity, coconut, vanilla, and sweetness. Good cask management, and a nice and lovely complexity. This one is not to think about too much if you don't want to.
