Sip this one neat and give it time — several tasters say it opens up only after a long spell of air. Once it does, you get pressed sugarcane, roasted wood, anise and citrus peel with grapefruit and lemon, plus black tea on a long, dry finish. First RumX meeting. A fruity, ample nose with dried herbs, overripe fruit and yellow fruit. A beautiful nose. The palate is soft and woody on entry, then the aromas become more powerful, with overripe fruit, spices and yellow fruit. Slight acidity adds vigor. The finish is long and consistent, with the same aromas plus a hint of smoke and black tea.

9,1:On the nose, sugarcane juice, herbaceous and flowery, tar and roasted wood notes like chocolate, nuts, perhaps gingerbread, spicy with anise, ginger, dried and citrus fruits with peel, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the cane becomes grassy, earthy, some tropical and green fruits arise. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is delicious with flowery, herbaceous sugarcane, mineral, roasted wood notes like toffee, slightly resinous and smoky, spicy with pepper and ginger, as the fruits are dried and citrus with grapefruit and lemon.On oxidation some black tea might be present... 8,9:The finish is long, dry, the cane is mineral, flowery and grassy, dark with black tea, the wood is roasted, smoky with crunchy bread, dark chocolate, nutty and spicy, as the fruits are green and citrus.

Community meeting RumX Eight October 2025. Starts with a beautiful Guadeloupe. Great nose, very spicy and fresh, herbs are recognizable here. It remains spicy on the palate, becomes slightly smoky and lemon is recognizable.

Very intense with nice complexity on the nose. Smoke, roasted notes and dried fruits provide a dark and intriguing profile. Very nice. On the palate smoke and wood dominate. There is some sweetness as well as dried fruits and candied ginger. Overall very intense. TWJ vs Honey Batcher: TWJ is way more wood, smokey and dark. HB feels much fresher and more lively with more sweetness and fruits. While I’m a fan of woody profiles, crown goes to HB for better balance and liveliness.

Im Glas drei 98er Bellevue, die ich bisher noch nicht verkostet hatte: RX10048 RX11158 RX11276 RX11276 gefällt mir am besten und alle, die gerade an meinem Split teilgenommen haben, können sich auf einen tollen Rum freuen. RX11276 erscheint mir wesentlich fruchtiger als die beiden anderen Rums, die eher auf der holzigen Seite sind, RX10048 noch etwas mehr als RX11158, was ich bei Bellevues eines Überjahrgangs nicht so klasse finde.

24.09.2022 Going through samples at home. Notes Medium to dark in colour. Nose Light, light wood, caramel, fruity, overripe, banana, light anise, light herbs. Palate Medium intense, fresh, light wood, faint roasted, tannins, light anise, nutts, faint coffee. Finish Very long and warm, fruits, spices, faint coffee, light caramel, dried fruit.

When I opened this bottle first, it boasted an incredibly dense profile, not portraying much else than musty wine bottles in a damp cellar. I didn’t think too much of it, didn’t particularly like it, and perhaps was even left a little disappointed. Looking at all the other ‘98 Bellevue reviews, I figured I had to be doing something wrong. After racking the bottle for a while, I realised this rum needs bottle maturation and excessive amounts of aeration (>hour) to reach its full potential. And what a beast it has become. On the nose it opens with camphor. Cool, musty and flowery aromas that slowly evolve into a more vegetal profile with pressed sugarcane, corn and red rhubarb. It’s sweet and sour with a mix of tropical fruits and a subtle sweetness; heavily seasoned with Indonesian spices (think nutmeg and ginger root). It’s extremely complex, yet surprisingly still well-balanced. In the mouth lots of wood, then tropical mix before dispersing into vegetal and spicy notes: peppers, aniseed and ginger root. It’s tannic and reflects many old red wine factors. Again very complex. The finish is medium long. Hot in the throat. Playful with lemon black tea, mint and geranium. Perhaps a bit kombucha-like.

Muss gestehen, dass meine letzten 98er Bellevue, die ich probiert habe, schon ein paar Tage her sind. Aus dem Gedächtnis heraus, würde ich behaupten, dass er es wohl doch in die Spitzengruppe schaffen würde.

25/01/2025: tasted @ Liquid Leuven in "De Hoorn". 15/10/2025: sample received from Stijn. This rum is a beauty! It has an awesome nose which can be enjoyed for a long time, and the palate is even better. The freshness reminds me of TDL sometimes. If you don't have a Bellevue in your cabinet, this might be a good choice.

As a dirty rum fan (Long Pond) this is something different to have on the shelf. This is really easy going but still complex. You could serve this to non rum drinkers to bring them over to the dark side. Overall woody, roasted, coffee, sweet, smokey... Whats not to like! Light nose, very long finish.

Tolle Nase mit einer tollen Balance von Frucht und Würze. Am Gaumen schön holzig aber man fühlt den Rum quasi am Fassrand runterlaufen. Wunderbar. Macht wirklich Spaß zu trinken. Toller Tropfen
