Captain Morgan Black Spiced
Surprise number one: it's less sugary than most expect, with the spices coming across clean and well-balanced rather than syrupy. Think coffee, caramel, nougat and a cola-candy sweetness, one member calls it "verry sweet and taste of candy like toffee." The nose is mostly alcohol and spice, and it drinks more like a spiced dessert dram than a traditional rum. Very much a cola bottle.

When we left Tunisia, we had a few rums to try in the duty-free store, but unfortunately we didn't get the best selection. The fact that this is spiced shouldn't necessarily have been written on the label, you can clearly taste it. But it's just not good.

It has nothing to do with rum. However, the spices are well balanced and very harmonious. It doesn't burn or itch. But it is also gone very quickly. I expected a lot more sugar, but it is absolutely in the green zone as far as sugar is concerned. Unfortunately a little alcoholic and medicinal in the finish

One of a very few spiced rums that I am able to devour :P. A good one after a heavy meal. Nose is not great honestly, mostly alcohol with spices. All tastes have been described within my review coffee, caramel, nougat all the way . Btw it is the best rum you can have in coke. Really it stands out as a cuba libre thanks to its specific spicy flavour. This is why I went above with rating because it is truly very nice mixer with cola and I am not a fan of rum and coke but try it and let me know.

Read full review →It's still very sweet but it has a more authentic young rough rum feel to I, lurking beneath all that vanilla. It tastes a little like a vanilla and cherry cola. You kind of still feel you are drinking rum - even if it isn't exactly what the great Privateers...
