Habitation Velier Trois Frères Distillery Takamaka 2021
Fresh-cut grass, chamomile and wet minerals lead here, with light grapes and a grapefruit edge — one taster even called it a sweeter Clairin. This unaged Seychelles pot-still cane-juice rum runs green and vegetal, but the 56% alcohol sits awkwardly and the finish drops off fast. Several members found it thin and one-dimensional neat, and better used in a mix.

Makes me think of a sweeter version of a Clairin World Champioship. Really good 😁

So pure the thing is unfortunately really quite boring I must say, sorry ... Very one-dimensional, something hay, trust and lemon peel, as well as chamomile more does not happen here even after 30 minutes. Hardly any fruit, no funk. Even in the daiquiri happens here not really much to justify a price of 60€ for a white rum, whose original takamaka bottlings partly only 20-30€ cost. Here I am really very disappointed. Too bad!

I think this one would do very well in a cola with a slice of lime, but that's something I'll try later. The nose is fresh and fruity with grass and floral . The palate is light, fresh and oily with raisins, grass and floral notes as well as a hint of mint. The finish is medium long and light with fruits and grassy notes.

Buh… What can I say… Really some type of rum I wouldn’t recommend to drink neat… This one I would rather see in some mixed drinks… The alcohol isn’t integrated well and gives it a strange note. First disappointing one from Velier 😅

Review by Johannes
Does not have to be drunk neat. The alcohol is not particularly well integrated. I miss the fruits here.

Nosing reveals a very mineralic profile. Springwater, fresh rain on dusty stones, old iron tools and weathered leather, chalk. Accompanied by light fruits, foremost grapes, and ofcourse agricole notes. The taste is heavy on minerals and freshly cut grass. Some green olive brine with herbs and a tiny bit of flowers. Finishes very quick, dry and -again- mineralic. And even though it’s 56%, it feels light. I would not recommend sipping this, but I tried this in a couple of tikis where the harsh agricole flavours do have their place. That being said, a barspoon of this makes a great Fay Wray.
