Don Q Añejo
Cola-and-cocktail drinkers are the honest audience here. This Puerto Rican column-still rum smells of caramel, citrus and light wood, but the palate turns thin, sharp and metallic, with vanilla and cinnamon over a syrupy sweetness. One member found a fun cola note; most found the alcohol poorly tucked in. It tastes lightly sweetened and works better in a mix than neat.
The community says- Nice caramel nose
- Thin and watery
- Metallic taste

How does Don Q Añejo taste?
Aggregated from 33 community reviews.
Thin, metallic sipper better in cola Most tasters landed lukewarm to low: thin, alcoholic and metallic neat, with an odd cola edge. A few found it round enough, but the consensus is it belongs in a mixer.

Dicker Respekt!

Relativ rund und ausgewogen. Die kurze Lagerung schmeckt man wieder etwS heraus.

5,4:On the nose, it is alcoholic, thin, but sharp metallic notes, wood spice, baking spices, a bit roasted with nuts, caramel andcsome citrus with lemon peel. 5,2:On the palate, the attack is alcoholic, sweet and syrupy with dried fruits, spicy wood notes as cinnamon, vanilla, there is a note of cola, some metallic touch. 5:The finish is short, light with sweetness, sugar, burnt sugar, a bit smoky and woody...

The liquid History of Puerto Rico Tasting Nr. 17 - trotz des wahrzunehmenden Alkohols wieder sehr wässrig und holzig. Etwas Zimt und Vanille. Kurzer Abgang, schmeckt künstlich gesüßt. Mit Cola sicher genießbarer

Had this a couple hours after the gran anejo. While a little less good, not so much worse that I'd prefer a bottle of the gran anejo over this one. Golden pour. Caramel and pepper.

The liquid History of Puerto Rico - vielen Dank an Artur für die Teilung! Rund, nicht so alkoholisch, ganz ok.

Puerto Rico Set Nr. 17: On the nose the DonQ nose again: caramel, vanilla and some wood. This bottling adds some nice notes of citrus fruits. On the palate sweetness is dominating, providing a siroupy feel. There is some cinnamon and backing spices added to the mix. Cheers to Artur for curating this set!

The nose is very subtle. Lemon peel, something medicinal and metallic, a floral note and smoke in the far distance. You really have to search for any of it, though. Vanilla comes from nowhere on the plate. Quite a big hit of it and paired with an unusual bitter metallic note. There's an early quality too. The finish fades quickly. Its somewhat bitter and smoky. Overall, not great. Could work in cocktails but I won't be running out to buy a bottle.

Taste not my cup of tea at all. I'm glad that I have spent no money for it. For mixed drinks possibly still to process, otherwise only to pour away.

Would not recommend. Really sharp. Almost all alcohol.

By labelling this a cocktail rum people think I am doing it an injustice. It's actually a lovely oak barreled flavour profile but the issue is its a very sweet so would be interested in the hydrometer testing on it ....

Read full review →Impressive stuff and to be honest until Don Q made a few noises on Social Media (I like it when brand owners get involved and make clear statements on their rums authenticity) it was a brand I would have overlooked. Which would have been a big mistake

Hmm, a really nice nose that really is not met again on the palate, some lakritz, but well, certainly no game changer to the Don Q gold of the same era. Daiquiri: good allrounder, sweet but descents into lime only 2/5 Stars
