Nobilis Enmore (Versailles) No. 8 (Cavavin Belval) VSG 1990
Sip this one neat — it's a cask-strength Versailles that wants a quiet glass, not cola. The classic wooden-still signature is all here: dark smoky wood, pencil shavings, black pepper, licorice and a touch of dried fruit and apple. Several tasters find it elegant and well-balanced; a few call it a bit flat and one-note, wishing for more length and complexity.

Nice, classic Versailles profile with excellent balance of pencil shavings, tea, citrus, wet wood and tart spice notes of pepper, licorice and anise. Definitely brings in rough edges, resulting in an exciting complexity as none of the notes swing out negatively. The VSG 90 profile is of consistently high quality, to which this bottling also impressively testifies.

You can taste all the Versailles wood pot still in this rum! Dark, woody, smoky and lots of spice to go along with it! The only note that doesn't make me give it a higher rating is that a little monochord throughout the tasting but if you want to feel what a pot still in wood can offer you this is definitely a rum to try!

A rather round Versailles that is on the astringent, woody side. Rather few fruity notes, little pencil. It is a little too flat for me, it lacks a little complexity.

a tedious process and dull finish. The price is out of line (seriously) and as a "VSG" it deserves to do better, especially considering it's 30 years old. Nobilis should put more effort into Versailles and show more sincerity. I won't try "MEC" at such a high price.

Good. But not great. Absolutely not for this money.
