Grays S.B.S Mauritius French Oak & Chestnut Wood 2009
Members mostly land in the same place: this is a wood-driven Mauritius column rum that hits hard. The chestnut cask leaves a mark — one taster called it a "Muskelprotz mit Ausdauer" (a muscleman with stamina), meaning heavy oak, dark dried fruit, pepper and a hint of mint into a very long, almost bitter finish. The nose reads bourbon-like with fresh herbs. A few felt the 54% could sit smoother.

How does Grays S.B.S Mauritius French Oak & Chestnut Wood 2009 taste?
Aggregated from 25 community reviews.
Wood-heavy, peppery sipper with a huge finish Well liked as a distinctive, wood-heavy sipper with an unusually long, intensifying finish. Main gripe: the 54% bites a bit and the alcohol could integrate better.

The nose is quite nice, reminds me of Bourbon Whiskey with some nice fresh herbal notes in addition. On the palate it is quite powerful and mostly aligned with the nose. Same with the finish which is a bit short. The integration of its 54% is good but not great. Interesting wood, overall a really nice drop. Shout-out and thanks to Gunnar.

Jedenfalls sehr lecker.

This release has a kind of lightness to it but the chestnut cask definitely has made an impact. Overall a nice rum and the price tag is really good compared to what you get.
