Velier Diamond & Port Mourant <W>PM 1999
One taster called it "insanely great Guyana rum... fresh yet thick," and that captures the split character here: a dark, oily Demerara blend of Port Mourant and Diamond. Expect burnt caramel, licorice, dried fruit, leather, coffee and tobacco, with wood building underneath. Rich and heavy, tropically aged, and complex enough that people happily nose it for ages. Not everyone finds it worth the hunt, but most are won over.
The community says- Layered and complex
- Rich oily body
- Caramel and licorice

The thing I like most about this mix is that at the 'beginning you immediately find the heaviness of PM then as time goes by is you taste it you feel more and more the more caramelized and fruity part of Diamond!Surely it is a very complex rum that will appeal to few people! But I like this rum very much!

After a long time, I finally have it in my glass again and I'm thrilled. A wonderful mix of red fruits, molasses, wood, licorice, and tobacco!
Review by Aussierumfan
Wow well what a rum! I think the best way to describe is rich, dark and heavy. The colour is stunning with thick oily legs running down the glass. It's got a wonderful demerara nose with caramel and licorice and a smoky coming out as well. In the mouth I'm getting a wonderfully oily, fullbodied mouthfeel with more caramel, then wood, brown sugar, dark chocolates, leather, plums and more licorice, all with a lovely sweetness. Just lovely top class rum here and I am fortunate to have a whole bottle available 😀

Very powerful blend. The PM notes in combination with the (coloured) Diamond profile provides a nose heavy with anise/liquorice and coffee. Rich and very heavy. Similar showing on the palate. Quite some wood and definitely on the darker side of Demerara profiles. This is very nice and intense, yet I‘m missing a bit elegance in the picture for a better score. Cheers Serge for this treat :)

Great blend... on the nose a densely packed combination of heavy tropical PM profile with fine Diamond. On the palate, first the PM and then the Diamond slowly comes in. Not really my favorite of the Velier Demeraras I've tried so far – but still a top rum. Add on second tasting: somewhat demanding and tiring. Not bad, by any means, but not an easy feel-good rum. Or easy sipper as some would say.

This is a great rum especially when thinking about the age. The nose is that of a full bodied rum with fruit, wood and spices trailed by some molasses. I'd go as far as saying that the nose is sweet as well. The palate is sweet, complex, well balanced and has a full body with wood, fruit and spices, as well as licorice and chocolate trailing behind. The finish is long and fruity with wood and spice.

Delicious, heavy and dark. On the nose, dried fruit on burnt sugar, spices, liquorice, wood and mocha. Also on the spicy and roasted side on the palate and in the finish. I like it very much.

Tried it again at the Franconian Tasting Gang meeting thanks to Armin. My rating remains low, too woody and bitter for my taste. For me, overall rather a disappointment. I expected a bit more. Basically, it has everything you expect from the brand. The price that’s being asked now, in my opinion, isn’t worth it. For me, the finish is way too short and fades away quickly.

Very oily and extremely dark. Smoke, strongly burnt caramel and licorice. Very complex, new aromas with every swirl. Beautiful lacquer and polish notes, spicy, cooking chocolate. Cow dung, but only slightly. The alcohol stings a little, but it fits well. Warm and powerful. You can smell it forever. 🤩 Bitter coffee, caramel and some dried fruit on the palate. Then it goes into a beautiful, spicy finish. As expected, a great Demerara, strongly reminiscent of a real Navy rum. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 When I started drinking rum, this bottle was just coming onto the market and I always dreamed of tasting it. A few years ago I got a bottle quite cheaply and also a sample. Add to that reading "The short and happy life of Francis Macomber", what more could you want.

Insanely great Guyana rum. Fresh yet thick. One to cherish for hours.

... Stare Velier Demerara rumy je to nejlepsi, co v rumovem svete muzete ochutnat. Rumy zraly spise omylem nekolik let v tropech a nikdo obsah sudu nedoplnoval. Andelska dan byla 90% a vice, proto je chut obzvlaste plna a intenzivni. I kdyz se jedna o extra drahou zalezitost, doporucu alespon jednou v zivote ochutnat rum z teto serie

I really like this blend. The PM and Diamond flavors complement each other beautifully. Overall, a smooth, complex rum with good alcohol integration. An easy sipper. Coffee, espresso, wood, and Demerara flavors come through wonderfully.

Sehr schöner Blend, im Vergleich zum SVSG jedoch mit etwas zu wenig Punch und etwas weniger Komplexität. Ohne Zweifel ein klasse Rum, aber für mich das Geld nicht wert.
Review by Mentalo
Wunderbar ausbalanciert zwischen PM und Diamond. Sehr schöne Komplexität mit sehr gut integrierten Alkohol. Fruchtig, Karamell, Süßholzwurzel, Holz, Melasse und Tabak. Alles gut ausbalanciert. Das einzige was mich stört ist, dass er relativ viel Süße mitbringt.

12-09-2026 - Rate 8.6 Bought a sample of the one at German Rum Festival. Enjoyed with the guys from the club after we got home. Nose is wood and a lot dried fruits. Palate is wood, leather and dried fruit. Short to medium finish dominated by wood and dried fruit. This did not do it for me. The other in the club was more found of it. To low ABV and was missing some power in smell and taste.

A rare experience and I like it.

Tasted at GRF 2025 Wow, what a fantastic rum. For me this is a unicorn. This is how rum should taste like. Comparing to similar rated rums, this one is competivly priced. The rum is perfectly balanced and is a very distinctive Guyana rum, dried fruit, caramel and wood, something to chew on. Delicious. Definitely going to try to get my hands on a bottle.

Nose: wood, pencil shaving, musty, liquorice, leather, fruit on the back, a little funk, bit of tart green fruit Palate: less explosive than the ULR. Spice and complexity, coconut/chocolate, prune
