Sancti Spiritus Rum Legends Cuba 1998
Sipped neat, this doesn't drink like a Cuban at all — several members swear they'd have guessed Jamaica or Trinidad blind. Roasted wood leads, with tobacco, cigar, licorice and a banana note underneath, then a peppery, salty kick on the palate. At 56.6% the alcohol reads well integrated. Bold and a bit edgy, not the smooth Cuban you expect.

Aggregated from 14 community reviews.
Bold, woody Cuban that drinks like Jamaica Widely seen as one of the better Cubans precisely because it breaks the mold — bold and characterful, though a couple call the palate edgy and slightly unbalanced.

8,4:On the nose, roasted wood, smoky, banana, grapefruit and dried fruits, dark molasses with licorice, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses brings tobacco, cigar and herbaceous tones, the barrel impact is strong. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is a mix of roasted wood notes like burnt sugar, roasted nuts, salty, spicy and tropical fruits, hints of peat and tobacco, dark molasses with licorice. 7,8:The finish is medium long, dry, the wood is roasted, smoky, spicy, whisky like, buttery, sweet with caramelized confectionery, less fruity.

Exciting rum. First of all, huge thanks to Gunnar for the sample. The nose is very inviting, intense with a nice mix of tobacco, herbal notes, pastry and fruit. On the palate there is a lot of wood influence with intense pepper. Seems somewhat unbalanced and angular. Definitely one of the better Cuba representatives, even if the nose promises more than the rum can deliver.

Communitytreffen RumX Acht Oktober 2025. Auf jeden Fall ein sehr guter Kubaner :-) Ist ja eher selten. Aber Tabak, Holz, Haselnuss und Lakritze sind definitiv erkennbar. Wirklich ein leckerer Rum, ohne Frage.

Has a barrel been mixed up? Blind, I would definitely go for TDL because of the dominant mint note. I would virtually rule out a Cuban. I've only ever had boring Cubans. This one doesn't fit the bill at all... However, Gunnar said that all 98s are probably more interesting. So I'll have to take a closer look at the '98 vintage!

Is that really a Cuban? I'm really surprised, I probably would never have thought of it blind. It's very tasty and the alcohol is well integrated. Shame probably on me, but I'll have to make myself a CubaLibre to enjoy with the rest. Thanks Chris for sharing and broadening my horizons.

This is finally a wonderful rum from Cuba. Strong, varied, aromatic. The nose is strongly reminiscent of Jamaica, especially Worthy Park and partly Long Pond. On the palate it becomes much broader, it is by no means the most pleasing rum. But a very good one with a strong character.

Rum Legends from Cuba. This 15-year-old rum is already somewhat woody on the nose. But also slightly alcoholic. The taste is then slightly smoky but also alcoholic. But well integrated. Already delicious.
