I’ts been a while since I’ve reviewed a rum and I can’t find a better nectar for my come back other than this good old flagoon navy rum! This thing is THICK! Dark brown-ish color, non the nose is so intense and flavorful that it seems unreal..raisins, sweet spices, wet wood, leather with a hint of tobacco and a touch of freshness (mint-y like)..flavors that are more or less the same on the palate, where the rum remains very balanced and oily..it has a looong finish and absolutely not dry..amazing stuff.. sooo lucky to have tasted it!!

A special moment, not for landlubbers. Two lemons in a sampling glass against the scurvy and singing "What shall we do with the drunken sailor" out loud... A very tart smell. Leather, tobacco, caramel and beautiful notes of solvent and polish in the background, then a wonderful floral note. You can smell it forever. Very leathery in the mouth, tobacco and a very long, good finish. A little alcoholic this time. A really great rum and a nice piece of history, it's amazing what a good drink the sailors in the Royal Navy got to drink. Thanks to Bonn for this wonderful experience.

Not exactly this Flagon, but from the 60s (bottled 'Southern Area' = Portsmouth Victualling Yard), i.e. when there was still the original Navy Blend at the command 'splice the mainbrace' (the MoD Defence Catering Manual number 0527 still provides for the command, but now 62.5ml 'commercial spirit', 500ml beer or 330ml soft drink (!) are served). The Navy Blend from the 450cl Flagon (even opening the wax seal is an experience!) has to prove itself against the Black Tot Last Consignment. First impression on the nose: very similar profile, Maggi spice, raisins, malt, tobacco, wax and butterscotch. On the palate spice, caramel and toasted flavors. In the finish barrel and mocha. Feels everything seems a little more intense than the LC, definitely a piece of liquid history!

I’m extremely honoured to have a few drops of rum history in my glass. The colour is quite dark and once you plunge your nose into the glass you are hit with a ton of aromas. Dried fruit, vanilla, wood, spices, caramel and leather. I could n’ose the glass for hours. On the palate I get the same, the rum is round and complex with a lovely finish. Quite amazing when you think about the sailors drinking this and similar blends. They sure got some good stuff back in the day. Many, many thanks to Michael for the sample! 🤗

Uiuiui, what a surprise, I really wonder how I earned this. Thank you thank you thank you mto75 for sharing such a fine drop with me. I'm still a little speechless. As for the rum itself, it's simply a piece of rum history. Delicious, delicious, delicious, but it only just breaks the 9, which I think it can get over.

Rum from one of the original Demijohns, filled with an imperial gallon of rum from (maybe) the 1970's. Tasting this on Black Tot day 2023, 31st of July. Complex notes of raisin, tropical fruits, some smokiness and a subtle funkiness

Tabak, Leder, bisschen Aschenbecher. Viel Geschichte.
