On the nose, alongside tropical fruits and caramel, I encounter spicy esters with funk and Hampden character. On the palate, sweet, fruity notes quickly emerge with some honey, pineapple, and esters. Then spice, wood, and peppery notes take over, finishing with caramel, tobacco, and leather. The alcohol is noticeable but not dominant or disturbing. The finish is very long, spicy, and again very complex with caramel, herbs, and baked goods. This Great House is a very interesting Hampden, though a bit pricey. Still, it's worth enjoying and experiencing.

This is a really nice Hampden release. Very round and tasty with lots of fruits and a balanced level of esters. I do like it quite a bit - recommended. If you are a „drinker“ don‘t fall for any inflated „collectors“ prices, however. While this is nice, it is not outstanding and there are plenty of Hampdens available which can compete.

This one is close to the other two, but I would have loved a higher ABV. In my mind that would have pushed the score a bit higher. I like the light smoky oak from nose to finish. On top of that there is fruit and a hint of caramel, tobacco and leather. The funk is there but the price to quality is very good.

Compared to the 2020 version, less powerfull and woodier in the finish. Alcohol is integrated very well. These Great Houses are definitely very good. And this 2021 is no exception. It's funky as hell, fruity, woody. It packs a punch, but not too much. No surprises. But it's very well made. Edit: tasted several times since opening and first impression confirmed. A fine expression of what this distillery can do.

After a long time, I open the second bottle. Super unobtrusive aroma of tropical fruits, vanilla and molasses. Taste similar. More banana, molasses and of course Jamaican esters up front. On the finish I find the pineapple and molasses more dominant . I'll compare with GH24 in a moment Edit: I'm now testing after GH24 and I'm not changing anything on the rating either

Probiert als 5cl Sample. Geruchlich zunächst viel Naturjoghurt/Butter, Frucht, Leder und Ester, wie man sie von Hampden kennt. Danach intensiver Geschmack nach vergorener Frucht/Ester, Gewürzen und verglichen mit anderen Hampdens die ich probiert habe recht süß nach Honig. Im Abgang dann etwas rauchig. Alkohol ist sehr gut eingebunden und insgesamt gefällt er mir sehr gut. Schade, dass die Flaschen so teuer geworden sind. Edit: Beim zweiten verkosten habe ich statt Joghurt eher abgelaufene saure Milch in der Nase, die aber irgendwie nicht ekelig riecht sondern zusammen mit den Früchten eine interessante Harmonie ergibt. Edit 2: Sample leer, immernoch wunderbar interessanter Rum mit tollem Geschmacksprofil. Absolut empfehlenswert.

50% LFCA 2011 50% <>H 2018 In direct comparison with '19, '20 and '22: entirely new composition, estimated at 710 esters, more than double that of its two predecessors; less intense, like the '19, on the nose and more vinegary; brightest along with the '21, more esters and bacony on the palate. Nose: as the first pleasant esters with a significant amount of vinegar, also seems slightly buttery. Behind that also immediately pineapple with lemon and banana. It gets more caramel and some wood out back. From the nose preliminary reports the weakest of all so far. On the palate, clearly different from its predecessors: a higher ester content, but here backed with clear umami, almost bacon. Seems almost creamy as a result. Then of course again pineapple and caramel with sweet licorice. I like!!!

An der Nase schöne fruchtige Aromen von tropischen Früchten, Mango, Papaya, Mirabelle und Banane. Esternoten eher im Hintergrund. Am Gaumen geht es fruchtig weiter. Hier kommt auch eine angenehme Note von Konfekt und Gewürzen. Sehr rund und gelungen. Reiht sich natlos in die GH-Reihe ein. Demnächst noch mal ein cross tasting.

Tasting day 1: Ananas! Nice nose and taste. There is a strong fruity sweetness, that goes on to a dry aftertaste. All sorts of esters play around, and I have them in an aftertaste even 1 hour later. Tasting day 2: I have some additional fruit in the nose, like pear, and the taste is much better to my liking, this time. I attribute this to giving the sample some additional time to breathe. Very good!

This is tame but typical Hampden DNA: overripe pineapple and esters, rather young profile, slight wood influence, rather little depth.The mouth is more interesting: Super dry and after the pineapple ester program comes another salty, vegetal note that brings a level of complexity that the nose doesn't reach.The finish is pleasant, not overly long and without surprises. Alcohol is well integrated. At MSRP this is a super rum, but why exactly is there such hype around this bottling?

This could have been one of my daily goto rum if it where easier to get hold of. Now in 2023 it’s still really good. - Almost a year later sine the last tasting. This bottle is really good if you get hold of it for a reasonable price. - Now February 2025 and again I agree with myself above. - Today the view made it even nicer. - 251024: Timpa gave me some blind tasting of my own bottles and I was way of, but this is still really good.

I finally got my hands on this bottle, which is already on sale at crazy prices after a quick sell-out. The nose is fabulous, with passion fruit and solvent, the palate is more woody and spicy, while the finish is long and peppery. Very nice bottle, deserves to be aired a little, but very well balanced! I love it!

Vitamin C fruits found in an alcoholic not quite pleasant spiciness, which fortunately comes only in the finish. In taste but super tasty with a nice fruit sweetness. Somewhat smoky, for my taste too little typical HD Ester notes, which are found here rather only in the nose.

Classic and tasty Hampden, with all the typical notes of tropical fruit, esters, wood, solvent and something buttery in a super balanced way. The alcohol is well integrated, but this was to be expected due to the low ABV.

Another great Hampden. What a great rum. A great rum. Has a fruity nose that continues on the palate. Ester also comes to the fore and you can also taste the cask. A super rum, delicious.

in direct comparison with the GH20. First impression on the nose: the GH21 has more of the fermented fruits, and also the typical buttery notes that exist in the <>H Marque are a bit more present in the GH21. The GH20 brings more balance between spice and ester notes. Whether this is due to the slightly different composition (LFCH/<>H vs OWH/<>H) or possibly a slightly different ratio of the two marques to each other, I cannot assess. The GH21 is on the usual high level, but the GH20 hits it a bit better for me.

On aeration, apple and citrus fruits arise, flowery, herbaceous molasses, dark chocolate, pastry and vanilla,some anise, fermented notes with yoghurt. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is funky, intense with esters, rubber, briny olive, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, citrus and red fruits, the wood is roasted with nuts, caramel, pastry, cocoa, spicy with anise, pepper, the barrel impact is strong, the molasses is sweet with honey, flowery, herbaceous, earthy with tobacco. 8,7:The finish is long, dry, warm, slightly tannic, with various roasted wood notes, smoky and spicy, pairing overripe tropical and red, citrus fruits, grassy and flowery molasses, some rubber. Very inviting what comes out of the glass. Lots of fruity notes and few roasted/woody aromas. In my opinion, the <>H component is clearly recognizable both on the nose and on the palate. One of the better GHs for me!

Third expression in the Hampden Great House series, this one has all the characteristics of Trelawny rums: there is a god amount of funk (with tropical fruits such as banana, pineapple and mango, but not so overwhelming as a CH marque), than a fair amount of mineral and flower that creates a very elegant background. I also sense a sweet and tart note, such as a delicious cream with some lemon peels. To round up everything, there is leather and some wood for some depth! On the palate, it as a very silky texture, ages away from the typical roughness of other wild Jamaican rum… Definitely worth buying it ;)

Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that, besides rum, also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters that make your whole body soak in the scent of yellow tropical fruits – mango, papaya, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die."

Tasted in parallel with the 2020 in joyful anticipation of the 2022 😂For me, this is just behind the 2020. But like both really very much and can only warmly recommend them (but only naha at the issue price 😂😂)This captivates me especially by its caramel notes and cookies in combination with the fruit while I appreciate the 2020 a slight licorice note

A really nice expression of the famous yearly release of Hampden, this 2021 blend needs a lot of oxidation before it begins to express all his qualities, with a nice blend of esters and tropical fruit. One of the best Hampden OB so far, maybe only new beginnings.

Tasted blind again today. The order remains the same and only 2022 and 2023 were mixed up. Overall, the 2019/2020/2021 vintages have earned the name Great House for me because they simply taste really round, even knowing the differences in terms of color. The 2022 and 2023 vintages are significantly lighter with less depth but in my opinion more buttery. Hampden Great House Crosstasting 2019-2023. Even a touch better than the 2022. In my opinion only weaker than the 2020 and on a par with the 2019. Wonderful mix of not too extreme esters + cask influence. Great bottling for the starting price. For me the following result: 1st place 2020 2nd place 2021 3rd place 2019 4th place 2022 5th place 2023

Have the 3 bottlings '20, '21 and '22 again directly compete against each other and have come to the conclusion that all 3 taste very good to me. The '22er is the most intense in the nose. The '20s I find the most elegant from the nose. The '21er, as the year already reveals, is exactly in the middle for me. In terms of taste, all 3 hit the mark for me. The '22er is here denoch in comparison again the most intense or the spiciest. As with the nose, my ranking is reflected here.

For me, the Great House 2021 brings everything I want from a Hampden. Ester, funk but also a balanced round drinking sensation, which I actually know only from older Hampdens. This is where the blend scores. Like many others, I find Hampden's ester bombs very awesome. But the 2011 Velier LFCH has always been one of my favorites. This one is a total step up from that. The 55% I find fitting and not disturbing.

Comparison between 19, 20 and 21:Most ester and kick in comparison and that despite only 55% instead of 59% so far (19 and 20). Less buttery than the 20. More sweetness for it. So far my favorite of the 3, although only just.

A typical Hampden with character. The nose is very fruity, concentrated on tropical fruits (mango, passion fruit, banana and pineapple) and is guided by notes of esters, solvents, spices and wood, enhanced by a floral touch. In the mouth, we are on a rather heavy and powerful profile on which smoky, fermented, spicy and honeyed notes come to disturb the initial fruity frame. The finish is long and diverges sometimes towards fruity and floral notes, sometimes towards spicy, smoky and vanilla notes, which end on a bitter note. A rum at once complete, greedy and powerful.

Äußerst guter Blend verschiedener Hampden Marks mit der genau richtigen Menge an Fasseinflüssen. Runde Nase mit tropischen Früchten, Butter, Karamell, Holz, Ester, erdige Kräuter. Im Mund eher auf den trockenen, erdigen, rauchigen Fassseite. Für den ursprünglichen Preis ein sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis, auch für Angebote nahe 100€ immer noch solide.

👃 Beaucoup de fruits trop mûres dans le classisisme de chez HD (mangue, ananas, banane, jacquier, maracuja), tout cela porté par un aspect beurré "gras". Un peu de solvant funky et estérisé mais en retrait par rapport à d'autres GA. Des notes boisées aussi avec quelques épices, du caramel léger. 😋 Toujours ces notes de fruits tropicaux surmûris telles qu'énumérées au nez. Des épices assez vives, un boisé léger et pimenté. Les esters se revoient la balle avec les saveurs fruitées. ⛳ Je note de la fumée de bois, un peu de tabac sec, de la vanille, du cuir même, légèrement. Quelques fruits tropicaux sur le palais toujours poussés par les esters doux. Un Hampden de la grande maison qui manque un peu de funk pour moi. Plus sur la rondeur des arômes, c'est très bien fait et équilibré.

Wow, I wasn’t too sure what to expect but it is quite a surprise and I like it. Lots of pineapple, mango and maybe acetone flavours. It’s light but complex and has a long finish with cigar flavours coming through strongly at the end.

Non ho amato particolarmente la serie great house. Anche questa prova li conferma: un rum che si confonde nell’ormai infinito universo di Hampden. Anche i prodotti single cask ormai non riescono ad offrire un serio differenziale olfattivo e gustativo
