Velier Providence Haitian Rum Blanc „Dunder & Syrup“ 2021
People who chase Haitian funk are the crowd here. This cane-juice-and-fermented-syrup blanc lands somewhere between clairin and a Jamaican high-ester: oily, vegetal, with lime, green cane, olive, glue and a smoky-metallic edge. Several tasters call it a bit vinegary and sharp neat, but at 56% it comes alive in a daiquiri. One member sums it up as "Jamaica meets Haiti."
The community says- Rich vegetal funk
- Great in daiquiris
- Vinegary edge

How does Velier Providence Haitian Rum Blanc „Dunder & Syrup“ 2021 taste?
Aggregated from 78 community reviews.
Oily, funky Haitian blanc, best in a daiquiri Well-liked funky white rum that many enjoy more mixed than neat. Fans love the oily, vegetal clairin-meets-Jamaica funk; a few find it too vinegary and sharp on its own.

#4885 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Round, vegetal, light floral, citrus, sugarcane, spice, faint smoke, faint anise. Palate Medium oily, fresh, balanced, vegetal, light herbal, citrus, light anise, light metallic, faint rubber, faint apple, medium spicy, faint smoke. Finish Medium long, fresh, balanced, fruits, light pineapple, citrus, faint smoke, medium oily, medium spicy. Considering the price for this bottle you get a lot for your money.

The addition of dunder in distillation is a great experiment! Compared to the first release it loses some of the Haitian cane authenticity and goes toward Jamaican high esters while still remaining fat and rich on the palate! It is still fun to drink and releases a nice intensity of flavors!

This is pretty good! A sweet. Heavy. Many nice notes for a white rum. Great price.

Nose: Vanilla, Apple, Vinegar, Glue, Lime Zest, Toasted Coconut. Palate: Medium Mouthfeel, Underride banana, Toasted Coconut, Nuttiness, Glue, Vinegar, Lime Zest. Finish: Medium length finish, raw bell pepper, glue, vinegar, Lime Zest, Toasted Coconut. Rating: 7/10 Dirty, Raw, Vegetal, Slightly industrial but somehow a bit clean all at the same time. This rum has a ton going on flavor wise and will hold your attention all night. Strong cleaner, glue, vinegar is balanced out a bit by some Lim Zest and fruits along with the toaste

The nose is quite promising as it is very fruity (apple/lime/coconut) and vanilla. It is very fresh and greedy on the nose, there are traces of sake in the background! It is a very expressive-funky and Haitian-specific aroma profile. The attack in mouth is slightly acidic with notes again on citrus fruits. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and it is easily tasted. Maybe even a little too easily. We don't find as much craziness in the mouth as in the nose. There is length but not enough greed and/or expressiveness. I prefer this vintage to the First Drops of 2019.

I received the latest Providence last week, so this is an opportunity to compare the two. On the nose, the First Drop is very fresh, vegetal, fresh cane mixed with glue. The Dunder

A very fruity nose. Mangoy citrus mixed with freshly baked crackers and rubber. The palate is quite floral and metallic. On the dryer side and with some herbal notes mixed in towards the back end. Quite sharp. The finish is long, smoky and salty. A nice rum. Not the best Haitian, but if you like the style this is pretty solid.

Jamaica meets Haiti or vice versa, but that's exactly it... the typical Clairin flavors and the esters complement each other quite well and reveal a lot of funk... a bit too much for me. What bothers me most is the slightly bitter finish, which doesn't really go well with the ester-heavy citrus fruits. But as a TiPunch it's excellent... I would prefer it as a mixer
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Nice combo here of funky ester clairin and classic molasses based white Haiti rum. Great daiquiri with it even if not an absolute revelation. Pure could be me the whole something rounder and less vinegary... Nice sour pineapple note in the finish
Review by Renato
The nose is green, the mouth is caramelized and even burned, the finish is coppery and candied, with a beautiful richness and intensity.

A rum with a lot of flavors but well made, it evolves a lot.Very nice discovery!

In my opinion, a solid blender at a fair price. On its own, it's not really my cup of tea. Nice to have tried, but nothing more. I think the stocked one from Haiti is better.
