A good entry-level rum for Jamaica at a very affordable price. The nose brings its dose of funk with esters, solvents, and overripe tropical fruits. A hint of wood appears on the nose. It’s smooth, simple, straightforward, and effective. On the palate, the rum is rich, oily, surprisingly syrupy but harmonious overall. The influence of Hampden and Worthy Park is noticeable, between the funky notes on one side and the spices (pepper, nutmeg, vanilla), wood, and menthol on the other. The finish is more marked by warm, spicy, and peppery flavors. The smoky, cocoa, and woody notes give a dry profile, while the exotic fruits and menthol bring a bit of freshness and indulgence. For a reduced rum, it’s still very tasty, quite complete, and once again offers a very interesting value for money.

I got both versions of this rum today and I just couldn't wait. This is a very good blend especially thinking that the price tag. You get a lot for your money. The nose is very fresh, funky and fruity with esters, grass, wood and very light vanilla. The palate is well balanced and feesh with fruit, esters, roasted wood and light vanilla and grass. The finish is long and has raisin, wood, chocolate and light vanilla. Leave the empty glas for a few hours and nose it again :-)

Nose: fruity, with some pineapple, mango, and vanilla. Taste: again some pinapple, banana, vanilla and Wood. I was a bit sharp and slightly bitter at the finish. It tasted better after resting a half hour

Nice Jamaican blend. Unsurprisingly very WP forward but with a nice touch adding some funk to the mix. Works very well imo. While the lower ABV bottling can hold up pretty well on its own, side-by-side the higher ABV of the Navy Strength bottling clearly makes the difference adding additional depth on the nose as well as on the palate.

A rum in my opinion inferior to the Hampden always Velier. A good rum, but a clone of the Hampden and therefore with little point of existence, besides its now overpriced price.

Conclusion: You can't go far wrong for the price. It's easy to drink, but a little too weak/simple in taste for me. But it has a good price-performance ratio. It goes in the direction of an easy sipper for in between, but it's really good for that.

I liked the navy strength version of this very much, but somehow did not have high expectations of the lowered ABV version. Luckily this was a pleasant surprise both on the nose and in the mouth. Still quite full-bodied and a great daily sipper, but for me the finish is too abrupt and overly dry for a Jamaican. It just lacks that little extra ‘oomph’ the red bottle offers. All of this is critique born out of priviledge. It’s a great drop. Both the blue and red versions are worth the money.

I had read that the reduced version was disappointing. Well, I don't regret to have tasted it.It's a reduced but cool blend that is close to the Hampden 8 years old and the Younger.The Hampden is very present, with its usual characteristics.For the price of release, it's pretty cool.Edit: pretty cool this rum. The reduction has smoothed out the flavors but it's still a pretty decent entry for the price.

I would never have estimated in the nose below 50%, very intense aromas, on the palate you notice it rather, but dominates here a refreshing lightness. Only with the mint note at the end I do not quite come clean. But for this again a cocktail could benefit

What is still enticing on the nose is very disappointing on the palate. The smell lures with nice Jamaican aromas and my first thought goes to Hampden, with the classic estery notes of banana, pineapple and a few other citrus fruits. Behind that, a spicy undertone that comes across as nutty and spicy and probably comes from WP. Overall, perhaps a bit unbalanced, but still versatile.On the palate, unfortunately, a bit thin, here clearly prevails the WP portion and offers little tropical fruit in addition to the nutty spice, which were still so pleasantly present in the nose. Mediocre blend, for me the sample is quite enough.

A quite interesting and very well balanced Haitian rom. I'm finding some fermented, overripe fruit and a bit funkiness on the nose. My palette says roasted oak barrel, again the overripe fruits and a peppery finish with some esters.

The other day I already had the big brother in the glass, now times the diluted to 47%...Nose: all aromas finely balanced, nothing stands out, but everything sniffable. First there are unobtrusive, restrained esters accompanied by sweet and sour lemon and lovely mango. Seems a bit metallic. Mild honey and a bit of caramel add some sweetness, while there's still some freshness, not quite mint, not quite eucalyptus, but kind of in that vein. A deep draw brings out some vinegar. Slightly woody in the back. Relaxed. 78Palate: the esters are up front, but rather light and approachable. Bitter and tart at the start, towards lime or lime zest. It also seems slightly metallic here. Out the back it gets a bit woodier and still gets a pleasant sweetness from licorice. Unfortunately, only short in the finish. 78Totally too light for me, a bit too thin and too "harmless". Certainly, however, a good Jamaica starter.

Amazingly flavorful for only 47%. Would have estimated blind probably at ~55%. Smell, as well as taste incredibly similar to the Hampden Great House 2021 at just about 50€/0.7l. In the nose natural yogurt, butter, varnish, overripe fruit, banana.Taste typical Jamaica ester, banana, copper, slightly toasty, woody and ne good portion of vanilla and some nutmeg.Also a nice long finish. I'm looking forward to the Navy Proof Sample, could be a real highlight. But also the 47%ige is an absolute no brainer for the price. Unfortunately, my Greathouse sample is already empty. A direct comparison would be interesting.Edit: Rating slightly corrected down so that the context fits my other Tastings.

Very drinkable, light and simple. I found this abridged version an easy rum to drink and share even non-rum loving friends in general, the bottle finished quickly. I plan to open the non-reduced version soon.

First Tasting: slight disappointment, I hoped that the Worthy Park component complemented the Hampden one, but I fear that I am thoroughly a Hampden fanboi, and WP does not work for me, in comparison. While Hampdens always have a smooth and sweet mouthfeel (despite bei unadulterated), WP is more dry. 2nd Tasting: the sample obviously had more air, and I am liking it a bit more. Still dry and a bit sharp (as I am used from HV WP samples), but more fruit and wood. I checked this as an alternative to the Hampden 8yo, which is a Default for mixing and easy drinks, and it is in the same price range. But it will not replace it, I like the Hampden more.

Great rum for it’s price. It’s actually too mild for me but overally the flavour profile is very decent. Especially the Eucalyptus note keeps you up during tasting. It was my first Jamaican rum that I’ve tried and it was fabulous. I think its the best entry Jamaican rum that You can get.

der ‚blaue’ im direkten Vergleich mit dem ‚roten‘: Der rote punktet etwas höher, da er trotz des höheren ABV runder wirkt. Der blaue ist mehr bei den vergorenen HD-Noten, der rote mehr bei den fruchtigen WP-Noten. Zum Ausgsbepreis beide eine gute P/L.

I am a sucker for the Papalin series. High quality interesting rums for an affordable price. I very much recommend the series to both starter and experienced rum drinker. For more information on the series, just search for Papalin rum series and you can find the article on the Velier website. The rum itself, tasted on various occasions. I concur with the concensus of tropical fruits and Esters are prominent but also some wood, cedar / oak(?) In both smell and taste. The finish is long and very pleasant, leaving you eager for more and to top it off, alcohol is well integrated and sits at a sweetspot for this particular rum. Definitely a delicious rum, a must buy.

🍾 Petit Bottle Kill d’entre deux fêtes, chez le beau-frère Mimmo 🎄 Velier Papalin Jamaica – 47% Un joli blend jamaïcain composé de 80% Worthy Park, 10% Hampden HLCF ex-Bourbon et 10% Hampden HLCF ex-Sherry. Cette version est embouteillée à 47%, mais il existe aussi une Full Proof à 57,18% (oui, oui… ultra précis 😄) pour ce rhum de 7 ans d’âge. 👃 Nez : frais et fruité, avec de belles notes beurrées. Un profil accessible, tout en gourmandise et très bien équilibré. 👄 Bouche : grasse sur les fruits confits, les agrumes et le chocolat. L’alcool est bien intégré, l’ensemble reste harmonieux et agréable. 👉 Mon avis : j’apprécie vraiment ce rhum. Pour une cinquantaine d’euro, on a ici un 7 ans idéal pour découvrir la Jamaïque sans brutalité. Un nez sur le solvant et les fruits bien mûrs, très classique jamaïquain. La bouche est assez légère voire ronde. C'est un rhum finalement facile à boire avec des marqueurs caractéristiques mais peu marqués de ce terroir.

A great blend of 2 phenomenal distilleries. I’d really love to know exactly went into it. It seems to be very Worthy Park heavy at first; lots of pineapple, candied fruits, citrus, spice, with the aggressive overipe banana, sharp esters, and almost lactic quality that I associate with Hampden playing a “supporting” role. It, in some ways, reminds me of early Hampden 46% prior to the formulation change and 8yr age statement. Rather than trying anything new or challenging, it seems this release seeks to highlight what we already associate with these two distilleries, and at a lower but still respectable proof.

This pure pot still blend of Jamaican rums is delicious! Signatures of the Hampden and Worthy Park distillates are able to be picked out, but there's still a nice obfuscation that takes place thanks to the blending of these components. I feel the Worthy Park really leads the nose, while Hampden dominates the mid/late palate and finish. Papalin 7 year is a nice gold color in my glass, with high clarity and medium-low viscosity. Its nose offers notes of rotting bananas, grilled pineapple, permanent marker, honey, oranges (almost like an orange curaçao), and aftershave. Some typical tropical fruit notes join with the pungent funk of permanent marker in the expected overture of this Jamaican blend, while a slightly floral honey dances around the edges of the bouquet.
