Caroni devotees will feel right at home here: this 1997 HTR is all rusty machine-shop, tar and rubber, with roasted wood, dark chocolate and burnt sugar underneath. A few tasters catch sour cherry and tropical fruit if they let it breathe, plus a light sweet undertone beneath the dirt. One member likened it to the well-loved Thompson and Bürgermeister bottlings. The one gripe: at 63.8% the alcohol runs a touch hot.

Revisiting. Still a fantastic rum for the price

Mein erster Caroni. Vom Geruch her hätte ich zu allererst auf einen Whisky getippt; intensive Fassnoten, dazu Vanille, Gummi und Anis. Im Mund kommen dann Teer, dunkle Schokolade und ein mineralischer Geschmack dazu. Abgang mittel, jedoch stark Alkohol lastig - klingt lange nach.

Klassischer 97 Caroni, deren Profil mir hervorragend gefällt. Dieser hier hat auch den leicht süßen Unterton unter den schweren Teer Noten, den man/ich bei Caroni so liebe.

Not too bad a release, would have loved a slightly better ABV integration. Needs to rest for a good while before it releases its flavours.

Geruch: Man merkt direkt die Caroni DNA. Hier kommt abwechselnd was rostigen und was fruchtiges Kraftvolles in der Nase. Geschmack: Die Noten aus der Nase spiegeln sich auf der Zunge deutlich wider. Lecker! Allerdings könnte der Alkohol besser integriert sein.
