Les Frères de la Côte La Favorite Navigation 2021 - Cuvée No 1 2020

If you already love young cask-strength agricole, this rewards patience. Fresh sugarcane, honey and mountain herbs meet a green, peppery kick and young oak, all at a big 67.6%. Poured straight it's mostly alcohol; give it air and time and the honey and citrus come through. One taster clocked cognac-like dried fruit late. Not a first sip of the night.

Beautiful attack that it is in the nose or in mouth, the cane of the favorite is immediately recognizable. There is a certain acidity brought by the lemon throughout the tasting and all this is sublimated by a rather pleasant young wood. It is a good rum rather spicy.

Warm and enveloping nose with notes of vanilla and pastry, roasted hazelnuts and gianduja, a hint of leather, tobacco, wood and some citrus, delicious. Intense and explosive on the palate with roasted hazelnuts/janduja, pepper, mountain herbs/resin/mint, dates, citrus zest, floral and woody with some cognac on the medium-long finish that then leaves a dry/woody/amuffy aftertaste that lingers even after tens of minutes. The abv is excellent and appears to be 15 degrees down. In the empty glass wood, fermented and floral.

One of the worse rum of my collection to sip. Tried multiple time but the alcohol integration is really bad. Tried to drink a glass of it beforee a snack, had to stop, tried after the snack, same, tried again after a meal. Could not finish it and I just emptied in the sink instead of forcing myself to finish. Not sure what to do with the bottle except trying to mix it. Really disapointed in this one

Trial 2: Reminiscent of cognac with mint, pineapple, citrus, green apple and date nut along with lots of wood and pepper. Tends to round thing but here would still be potential upwards I think.

It’s a step up for me from the no. 2 example. Rich and brooding mouth with real hints of honey and vegetal notes on the nose melding in to more balanced but full power pepper and spice on the mouth. A robust and full finish with honey and oak pulls all together well. Solid and full force sipper

Intéressant, un gros brut de colonne bien végétale qui rencontre une touche de bois avec une belle tram La Favorite.

An incredible discovery! Very attracted by the nose, I was afraid of its alcohol content. It is quite balanced even if it is better not to start the tasting here... The story is superb, sailboat without engine, aging during the journey, in the old way.

Pour un très jeune déjà bien marqué par le fut avec de superbes notes de miel et fruits secs

La Favorite

Avg Rating 8.1/10 over 220 Rums

La Favorite is the last working distillery inside Martinique's capital, Fort-de-France, and the island's longest continuously family-run house. Five generations of the Dormoy family have made rhum here on a 1906 steam engine that still turns the mill. It is agricole at its most unvarnished, and the community treasures its old La Flibuste vintages as some of the finest aged Martinique rum there is.
