Don Papa Port Cask
Here's the twist: this is the Don Papa that isn't drenched in sugar. The port cask brings sour cherry, red wine, dried fruit and clove over roasted, tannic oak. Fans call it the most grown-up Don Papa by far. But opinions swing wildly — some taste a warm, spiced Christmas glass, others hit a sharp, spirity finish that pulls it back.

How does Don Papa Port Cask taste?
Aggregated from 41 community reviews.
Drier, port-spiced Don Papa with cherry Divisive. Many find it the best, driest Don Papa yet — cherry, port and spice — but a spirity finish and a couple of harsh scores keep it from a clear win.

8,2:On the nose, this rum is seductive from the outset, reminding us of Trinidad with a hint of greasy metal. The stone then predominates, with notes of almond and fruit jelly.Aeration expresses the wine as a gourmand, fruity syrup spiced with toasted wood. Dried apricots, quince paste, tropical fruits dominate shape under the nose with its thickness. 8:The palate is round as expected, actually gourmand. The tannic side of the wood brings some serious and well roasted character. Then tannins melt into tropical fruit syrup with some medicinal note.Drieness is felt. Otherwise fruity notes dominate the palate. 7,8:The finish is soft, caramelized, fruity with vanilla and other sweet spices with soft wood... Taste, then judge😉... Edit:9.11.25, still like it🙂

That such aromatics can be packed into 40% ABV is not a given. Here, it worked perfectly. On the nose, I initially get cherry, port wine, grape, raisin, and a bit of wood. Vanilla and clove join in. On the palate, it’s relatively smooth and easy-drinking at 40%. Plum, wood, port wine, and sour cherry create a great interplay. Berries, caramel, red fruits, and dried fruit are guided in a spicy direction by citrus notes, clove, tannins, and red wine. The equally fruity and complex finish is medium-length and pleasantly spicy. There’s also a great sweet port wine note that fades out with vanilla. Very pleasant to drink, but 200 euros is too expensive. Still a recommendation in terms of taste.

This one has benefitted from the port cask and can be sipped and probably a great addition to a mixer.

Unsweetened Don Papa. Interesting. Way overpriced ofcourse. Not a bad drink. A tad one dimensional. Loads better than most other Don Papas. I do wish they stepped up and made a true unsweetened cask strength rum (for normal money). This is enjoyable though.

Don Papa is a producer that is very underestimated by connoisseurs because of its flavored sweet rums. This great bottling is unfortunately very expensive due to its limited availability. The nose has a wonderful spiciness that is reminiscent of Christmas. This is immediately followed by corky red wine, fresh sour cherry with medium-aged oak. On the palate, there is spicy, woody clove with fresh, tart red wine. Citrus fruits and hints of cinnamon accompany the whole. The relatively long finish is wonderfully spicy and warm. Cloves with sour cherry and calamansi play together with the woodiness that now comes from bamboo. A very good product.

Nic moc. Dá se vypít, ale je hodně utlumený.

Ressemble plutôt à de l’eau de vie sans gout qui arrache la bouche que d’un rhum avec saveurs
