Elixir Distillers of London Black Tot Rum Master Blender's Reserve 2021
Sipped neat, this navy blend opens on overripe banana, pineapple and dried fruit, then folds in chocolate, coffee, leather and roasted wood. Members single out the heavy Trinidad (TDL) share driving the wood-and-tobacco palate, with a bright, slightly citrusy finish. Mixing it seems a waste to most tasters. Fruity and estery, with real complexity — several call it the best Black Tot after the 50th Anniversary.

Great Navy blend, heavy on the dark fruits, leather, tobacco paired with some citrus freshness and slight estery notes. Great complexity with well integrated alcohol, fun sipper! Die Referenz zwischen 2021/2022/2023

06.10.2023 retasting between 2021 - 2022 - 2023 and it lost a few points. ------ What a wonderful rum. The base should be the same as the 50th anniversary but this one is more fruity and there are more esters in comparison. A great rum and the quality to price is very good. I was so lucky that they allowed me to buy two bottles :-) Enjoying this nice rum again and I stand by my score. Very good rum especially thinking about the price tag. Retasting this one today and I really like it. Good that I have several backup bottles.

Biggest drawback the integration of alcohol (not ideal) in combination with overripe fruit what does not want to harmonize properly. Would have liked more wood.
Review by Basti
The longer the bottle is open, the more I like it. Lots of fruit, some esters, spices and wood on the nose. You could almost think you had a Jamaican in your glass. Unsurprisingly, the T.D.L. predominates on the palate, making up the majority of the blend at over 40%.
Review by zabo
Very tasty, palatable fellow. In my opinion, it's not necessarily the ultimate blend, but it's certainly a success. As it is now available again and sometimes even below the release price, it is definitely worth considering buying another bottle as an easy sipper. If you can get it cheap, it's definitely worth it.

Really nice blend! Great harmony of pineapple, passion fruit, coffee, vanilla caramel and dark chocolate with tobacco and spices. Makes really fun the thing!
Review by Beach-and-Rum 🏖️🌴
I like it very much. Significantly more Jamaican content than the other special bottlings. For me, slightly worse than the 2020 bottling and ranked second among the special bottlings. For 120 euros, the price-pleasure ratio is also good.
Review by Tim
Very harmonious blend from Jamaica and Guyana. The ester notes have been well tamed and blend well with the chocolate, coffee, spices, nuts and caramel, a hint of tobacco and licorice. Very tasty in the mouth too, although the Guyana component is heavier here and is joined by light roasted/smoky aromas.
Review by LukaŽiga
8,7:On the nose, very enticing first impression, with light esters, varnish, overripe banana, mango, pineapple, dried fruits and roasted wood notes with caramel, dark chocolate, spicy with vanilla, some molasses, vegetal and herbaceous. On aeration, medicinal rubber and copper are stronger, citrus and yellow fruits, allspice, quite later raspberry, black berry, dried currants and raisins join the play. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is tasty, a bit sweet and medicinal with varnish, light esters, copper, with roasted wood notes like nuts, caramel, dark chocolate, spicy with nutmeg, vanilla and much later umami, as the fruits are mango, banana, yellow, dried and citrus, tobacco from molasses. After a nice rest, for a while, the rum is rather vegetal, darker with a licorice, vanilla joins, then another fruit attack with ripe strawberry, candied, maracuja and pineapple. The rum is well balanced, rounded, but still complex. 8,7:The finish is long, complex, dry, a bit dirty, there is rubber again, some smoky hints, crunchy bread, herbaceous molasses, lots of roastedness from the palate, coffee is an additon, variety of fruits from passion fruit to cherry, raspberry and strawberry, some of them candied...

Tasted quickly on the rumfest, I said to myself that we were well in the line of the 2020 and that it was a very beautiful navy blend.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Sweet blend of high quality, but you notice the alcohol, so slight point deduction. Nevertheless, tasty.
Review by Tschusikowsky
Delicious blend. Relatively fruity, but nice concentration and embedding of fruit flavors. Strong Jamaican influence, but really good. The 2020 version I still like the best from the series.
Review by Chrischi78
Review by Tom Buteneers
Maybe somewhat less accessible in comparison to the 50the anniversary. But also very very nice
Review by mto75
Tasted together with the Black Tot 50. Although they are the same base, the differences are clearly discernible. The Master Blender is more ester-heavy on the nose, almost a bit pungent. It seems fresher, but also not as round. The nose of the Black Tot 50 is more in the direction of old Bordeaux barrel, raisin and vanilla, the Master Blender in the direction of nutmeg, grilled pineapple, Virgin Oak barrel and dried apricot. If I had to decide between the two, I would rather access the Black Tot 50 (but it is already in the Ragal anyway 😉).

If you love TDL this is your dream navy rum. Unlike the 50th anniversary, the Demerara takes a backseat here. Dominant expressions: Nose: Toffee Palate: Mechanic workshop with catholic church incense burning in the background. Finish: Minty lime citrus The freshness of the medium long finish is like a built in palate cleanser and makes the overall profile feel complete. In my opinion the second best black tot after the 50th. Heavy on TDL and worth seeking out for fans of this profile

It's on the borderline of very good, I had a little more expectation, maybe that's why my rating doesn't pass 80.It's well done but I might not put 160€ for it. At 120€ I would have enjoyed it more 😏
Review by Djehey
A rum that everyone enjoys, and after almost finishing my bottle, I understand why.You can tell it's a blend but it's so complete and balanced that it can't displease. They were lucky in the British Navy!
Review by ilRummista
A very good navy rum. Strong but not too much, it is also fresh on the palate at times but still remains a product of great character (even on the nose). My favorite part though is the finish, really pleasant and also fairly long
Review by Thunderbird
A very pleasant rum for evening sipping
Review by TheJackDrop
Tasting notes : Nose: exotic fruits, hydrocarbons, esters, white chocolate (very pronounced), salted butter caramel. The fruit is quite lively, with a certain heaviness that promises a slap in the mouth. Palate: a fine attack, very much focused on varnish and woodiness, with the fruit taking a back seat. Finish: long, with leather, rubber, a strong roasted coffee character, and a slight bitterness - controlled. Surely my favorite blend, as I found the experience evolving, biting, and rather heavy (which is also what you look for in a Navy, I think). If there's a flaw, it's a texture that could have been fatter. In any case, I'm very happy to have a full bottle in stock at home! After re-reading the blend, I think the 42.4% Trinidad rums really make an impact, and being a big fan, maybe that's also what tips the scales in its favor!
Review by Righrum
Great quality delivered as usual with black tot MBR. Chocolate is the main trait, along with ripe tropical fruits. Liquorice and leather also on the nose, plus caramel drink side. Also, drink side there is some hint of Caroni, maybe part of the original blend is made up of rum distilled at Providence Distillery

Degustační kalendář Pavla Špačka No. 4 Na nose sem nejdřív tipoval jamajku, následně savannu. Byl jsem mimo. Krásnej komplexní kousek, v chuti i na nose, řekl bych, že z ročníkovek za mě asi nejlepší.
Review by ordogh
Reached up to my expectation, complex rum with so many layers. Intense and bold, with dominant fruitiness, mostly overriped. The creamy mouthfeel surprised me.
Review by DutchRumPirate
A truly wonderful blend! A fantastic harmony of fruit, pineapple, vanilla, chocolate, leather, and spices. A touch of sweetness. The finish is wonderfully long, leathery, and slightly dry with a fruity note. This is truly delicious!!! What a winner!

Great spice and green wood flavours. Well blended flavours.
Review by Stefan L
I like it. Second tasting and it stays.
Review by Christian Rudt
We have overripe fruit and notice a nice Jamaica share. This then glides on the palate into a good portion of chocolate. Out the back still a somehow interesting citrus note. Compared to 2022 clearly fruity, but somewhat less drinkable. Slight point victory.
Review by Michael Janek
I smell nothing at first, then nothing but the taste at first is faint, mild, and then it gets scratchy and lasts a long time while it's in your mouth, it caresses It starts to simmer after you swallow it.

⚓ Black Tot 2021 – 54.5% Blend released in 2021 to celebrate Black Tot Day. Second installment in a series of limited edition premium rums from Black Tot. Special mention for the ultra-detailed back label: complete composition of the blend, parts aged in tropical vs. continental climates... it's a rum geek's dream 🤓 (and for the more curious: even more info on their website). ➡️ 100% molasses blend, no added sugar, bottled in Scotland. ➡️ Significant base from the 50th anniversary edition (11.5%) + the traditional touch of historic Royal Navy rum. ⚠️ Big change vs. 2020: Guyana: 62% → 14% 😲 Trinidad and Tobago: 42% (almost tripled) Beenleigh (Australia): 6.7% 👉 Nose: fruit, spices, wood, esters 👉 Palate: TDL clearly dominates... and that's a good thing 😏 ➡️ Probably the best Black Tot vintage I've tasted to date.
Review by X-Savior
On The Rocks: On the nose mild fruit, floral and spice with some wood undertones. Taste is a punch in the face with spice followed by a sweet fruit and floral with woody undertones. Finish is medium length with continued fading spices. This is a very unique rum with an interesting personality. It is an exciting rum that can showcase a unique flavour profile. This is a very nice sipper. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose mild leather but it seems washed out. Taste is very smooth with some spice. Finish is short. It is a shame to drink this mixed.
Review by Wernie
When these small droplets form after swirling and run down as fine streaks, top. A class nose, intense, heavy, sweet and fruity. On the palate again this heavy sweetness, with plenty of wood and spices dried fruit,a little tobacco accompanies the whole. A medium length finish with wood, mocha and candied fruit rounds it out. I love it.

Inny niż 50th Anniversary - bardziej owocowy, estrowy, mniej tu dębiny i przypraw, więcej łagodnej owocowej słodkości. Rum delikatniejszy, dobrze zbalansowany, mniej narowisty, jednak dający dużą satysfakcję z degustacji. To powinien być rum wejściowy do Navy Rum ABV >50%

Very nice navy, with a strong character with a fruity nose very Trinidad and a mouth anchored in wood and coal, more complex, offering a beautiful aromatic palette. Top!

So far the most balanced and delicious rum I've tasted. Easy to drink, yet still complex with long-lasting aromas. Spices, dark fruits, caramel, a bit of leather. Long finish but smooth and not too smoky/woody. This is only my 3rd Navy Blend and the best so far. If they’re all this good, I definitely need to try more from this category.

Belle decouverte.

Very interesting edition! It punches with Hampden like/jamaica profile, but it then develops very nicely. It is very complex and interesting!

26/10/2025: sample from Brussels Rhum Festival 2025. Very fruity/estery Black Tot, unlike their standard Finest Caribbean release which is pretty dark tasting. More than 40% of the blend comes from Trinidad (TDL), and it's noticeable. Nice and tasty blend.
Review by DruNierer
Blast of sweetness when the bottle was first open, that quickly fades into citrus, spice and a dominant tobacco and leather nose. Little bit of heat as expected from Navy strength, but very smooth, a little bit spicy on the backend. The sweetness on the nose returned after the initial sip. Over ice the spicy taste is diminished and becomes somewhat sweet
Review by Diegojp82
Good rum, well balanced, lots of ripe fruit and the right funky touch. Quite complex and deep, with different layers, ripe fruit, cocoa, tobacco, vanilla and glue. Fresh and slightly citrus finish. I prefer it to 2022 because I find it more fun and richer.
Review by 86kringo
A great fruity blend in which the ester notes are strongly represented in the mouth and finish! Overall, I found the 50th anniversary but a touch better!
