Perola Caroni Bellamy‘s Reserve 1998
Sipped neat, this is a Caroni that leans fruitier than most — mango and papaya up front before the familiar rubber, tar and burnt-plastic funk creep in. Several tasters call it a gentle way into cask-strength Caroni, with the 64% impressively tucked in. A couple found the smoky, medicinal finish a bit sharp, and it's short on length, but the fruit-meets-filth balance wins most people over.

How does Perola Caroni Bellamy‘s Reserve 1998 taste?
Aggregated from 52 community reviews.
Fruity, gentler Caroni with tar and rubber A well-liked 1998 Caroni that trades some of the heavy dirt for tropical fruit and caramel. Most love the balance and integrated alcohol; a few miss more length and power.

Review by Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓
Wonderfully relaxed Caroni. Just the thing for a summer in front of the balcony. 😊For me in the same pleasant, still affordable league as the Caroni of C. Dully from Switzerland (RX11715).Update 2022-12-09:Nah, is still a bit better than the C. Dully, because simply more power for the aroma transport to my nose and palate. At least as good as the Ultimatum, but even slightly more appealing because of the expressive power and therefore also upgraded from 88 to 90 points.Worthy rum for today's Caroni Day. 👍👍

Einfach lecker. Schön dreckige Note, gut Holz und genial eingebundener Alkohol. Dazu jede Menge Frucht.

A very eye-catching Caroni among the 1998s. The nose is superb, a beautiful expression combining dirty and oil notes, exotic fruit and a honeyed, sweet, candied sweetness. Spices and copper accompany the oak. The aromas here offer a generous bouquet, both lively and greedy. On the palate, the pastry part fades away in favor of a powerful build-up of tropical fruit. The latter are suave and bring a welcome sweetness to the palate, which is livelier. Hydrocarbon and metallic notes combine with spices to create a warm, inviting blend. The alcohol is extremely well integrated. The finish is long and round. Exotic fruits are surprisingly present, competing with empyreumatic, spicy and woody notes to give a very tasty Caroni. A nice surprise among the late distillery's latest bottlings, available at a "reasonable" price.

Very delicious balanced Caroni. Alcohol is integrated very good. Tar and wood is not to dominant as in other Caroni. For me the best of Bellamy’s!! This one needs some time to open up! 🥃 Nose: Dirty, delicious, round, rubber, polish, bicycle tube, tar, fresh, woody, leather, vanilla, smoky, toasted, spicy, oak, roated nuts, over some times it will release some notes of chocolate and thyme Mouth: Dry, Dirty, delicious, full bodied, balanced, complex, sharpness, oily, intense, rubber, bicycle tube, tar, menthol, minty, tobacco, chamomile, trop. fruits(papaya), allspice, leather, woody, anise, sandal wood, roasted, smoky Finish: medium-long, dry delicious, tar, minty, dark chocolate, wood(oak), vanilla, smoky, cocoa, leather

Nase: papaya, mango

A very nice and well balanced release. Draws really nice curtains i the glass and has the traditional Caroni flavours. The empty glass is really wonderful and full of flavours.

Unexpected and uncharacteristic of Caroni, but very well integrated between tar and rubber fruit notes. The finish is astringent and leaves some mint on the palate. The 64% is excellently integrated and makes the rum a flavor bomb. By the fact that here not only dirt, but also fruits are there I can imagine the rum quite as a "beginner Caroni".

Caroni in the nose, although not in top form. The 64% suits him well. Burnt plastic and rubber are present first, but behind that there is also a tart sweetness of still green mango and some caramel. Then already comes a distinct vinegar note and leather with old vanilla powder. Woody and slightly smoky it is also. Out the back again sweet, burnt sugar and syrup. The 64% is also very good on the palate. They drive the flavors wonderfully into the mouth. Slightly astringent, the nice dirty things come first: burnt, sweet plastic and rubber. This quickly transitions into sweet, soft licorice and becomes slightly nutty. Kind of fruity too, maybe some cherry and papaya..The finish is left with plastic, rubber and soft licorice.I like this one already....

On the nose furniture polish comes to mind, after some time also red wine barrel, pipe tobacco, a certain honey sweetness and dried herbs. Toasty notes and tar/gum on the palate. The alcohol is surprisingly well integrated for the 64%.

Tasted again after a long time and still delicious. But in direct comparison with its tropical cousins, I have to downgrade it again ... a nice continental 98 and the barrel experiment was relatively successful here
Review by DomM
Comparably lighter and more approachable profile. More heavy on roasted and fruity notes. Maintains a little more dirt compared to other early 1998 Caronis, however. Nice complexity and evolution on the palate keeps it interesting.

Less pronounced workshop notes. Instead, a nice smoky note runs through the nose and palate.

Review by Johannes
Alcohol very well integrated for 64%. Rather a mild Caroni with little dirty notes.
Review by Thunderbird
For me rather an atypical Caroni, but quite tasty, especially in the finish comes late a sweet fruitiness to it
Review by Mentalo
Review by Oliver
Smooth Caroni with fruity rather than dirty workshop flavors. Perfect to dive into the world of barrel strong Caronis!
Review by Jakob
