Savanna Rhum Traditionnel Le Must
Honey, ripe pear and banana up front, then toasted oak, vanilla and a little coffee-chocolate bitterness on the way out. A small splash of Grand Arôme adds tropical fruit and light funk. Most people find it round, mild and genuinely easy to drink — the recurring gripe is that at 45% it feels watered down and thin, with flavors that fade fast. A gentle door into Savanna.

Aggregated from 237 community reviews.
Mild, fruity Savanna entry, a touch thin Members agree it's a friendly, well-blended entry to Savanna — round and fruity with real balance. The near-universal catch: too diluted and thin, with a short finish. Many wish it were bottled stronger.

Very good for starting to discover Savanna rums, especially for a beginner. It's easy to drink thanks to its roundness of fruit, caramel, vanilla, and light woodiness. The share of grand arôme gives it a bit of complexity without overwhelming.

26.09.2025 Tasting with Savanna, while in Paris for the Whisky Live 2025. ---------- A bit sad that they watered it so far down because some of the flavors are really light. Would have preferred a higher ABV for more powerful flavours. Fruity with floral notes and roasted wood but a bit too light.

For me, a beginner's guide to savannarum! It offers a lot, but unfortunately only in the beginning! It's too thin to be really convincing, maybe as a sipper it still fits. Tasted again on 26.09.25 at the RumX-Savanna tasting

Thanks to the RumX Team for this great opportunity!! Unfortunately, I missed the only tasting due a delayed flight… This one took the third place in my tasting, very fruity, with some nice notes of furniture waxes, bitter orange and honey. A really nice daily driver, without looling on the price tag!

Tasting 19/4-24 Peters vin. Nose: Some different flowery notes, caramel, a little spicies. Tast: A light rum, some Spice, little grassy notes, little smoke. The abv should have been higher. Finish: some light smoke, bitternes and pepper.

Finally found some time to taste it again. Once again, a big thank you to the RumX team for the great masterclass, during which I had to say goodbye after a few minutes. As for the rum itself, a nice easy sipper that would have benefited from a few more turns.
Review by SaibotZtar

RumX Savanna Masterclass 12.7. Even today, the le must makes a very round impression, a light sipping rum that would benefit from a little less water. This leaves us with a very good impression and the hope of a somewhat stronger version in the future First tasting: Great, slightly medicinal nose, very roundly blended and correspondingly nice to drink

Review by Tim
I really liked this Savanna rum, the nose is the best thing about this rum! Nice combination of fruit, spices, chocolate, and even herbs in the finish. However, on the palate, it feels too thin and somewhat sharp at the same time. For the price, the overall package works, even though the quality level is obviously higher elsewhere.

Tasted at the 11th GRF in the Savanna Tasting: a newcomer to the Savanna world, nothing more... Update in the RumX-Masterclass: Beautiful blend that delivers the typical Savanna characteristics. Blend of Traditional and Grand Arome
Review by Serge
Re-tasting the Savanna Masterclass we missed ... Immediately worlds better than the Métis. Spicy, mature, caramelly, full-bodied. You can drink it on its own, but I still think of it more as a mixer.

Savanna Masterclass for RumX 2024. The nose is vegetal, with dried fruit, lemon and vanilla. There's a hint of dilution on the first palate, then roast, dried fruit, lemon and fruit arrive with a hint of spice. The finish is rather short, but surprisingly long for dilution. There's a roasted note with fruit and citrus and a light woodiness. A very fine finish for a rum that is, alas, too diluted, but nonetheless very well made, easy to drink and well balanced.
Review by Stefan Persson
Tasted this rum at the Sweden Rum Fest 2026. It’s a small-batch rum that’s a blend of traditional column-distilled molasses rum with some high-ester Grande Arome rum added. It’s tropical aged for up to 9 years in ex-Cognac casks. The nose is complex, fruity, sweet, spicy, woody, buttery, ripe and slightly funky with scents of banana, pear, peach, citrus, apple, honey, caramel, vanilla, ginger and oak. At the palate it’s elegant, complex, balanced, sweet, fruity, spicy and woody with flavors of honey, caramel, toffee, orange, mango, vanilla, pepper, oak, chocolate, cocoa and coffee. They finish rather long.

8:On the nose, the first impression is of a small fruit salad in syrup. At first, pear, mango and cherry are quite fresh and pale, protecting themselves in the shade of a small film of crunchy sugar. With aeration, the lightness and freshness are retained, but the fruit is enveloped in a toasty woodiness, itself covered by a thin layer of sweet-spiced honey. This light patina tempers the toasty character of the oak, preserving the delicacy of the fruit. The second nose is nicer-8,5. 8,2:The mouth is more complex than we could have imagined, and shows several facets in fractions of a second. Let's try slow motion to see what happens. First, the toasty woodiness sends up a small cloud of sweet spices, which come to rest on a bed of roasted, caramelized pecans. Then, the fruit salad encountered on the nose is baked, the fruit becomes stronger, more tropical, more caramelized, its pits resurfacing.Light smokiness arises. 8:The finish is both roasted and pastry-like, with pits and red fruit tannins, followed by a layer of ripe exotic fruit that maintains the length.

Also in the second tasting - you can taste the potential. Nicely spicy, a little fruity, almost a little too woody. But unfortunately it's all over again very quickly. Very solid, but not outstanding.
Review by Oliver
Review by DomM
A little bit subdue on the nose - some fruits, vanilla, wood and spices. Probably attributable to the low-ish ABV. Much more going on on the palate with nice intensity, yet superbly balanced. Very nice.

"Un must have !

Review by mto75
pleasant nose, but for me a little too much wood on the palate.
Review by Alex1981
A bit weak on the nose, but nice flavor profile. Good balance of fruits, vanilla, roasted notes, honey, chocolate on the palate. Slight woodyness on the finish. Really like it! Could use some higher abv, otherwise great entry to Savanna.
Review by Skyfly

Longueur trop courte cependant !
Review by Timo Groeger
Good savanna. Has a really nice woody and fruity nose, then also fruity and woody on the palate. You can also taste pear and caramel. Definitely a good bottling. Thanks Sam for the masterclass.

Good flavor profiles, but unfortunately too diluted and somewhat flat overall.

Masterclass Savanna 26.09.205 Edit: Post-tasting. In the end, this remains the lowlight of the Savanna line-up. Lots of wood, spices, but overall rather flat and slightly pungent despite the low ABVs.
Review by Rowald Sweet Empire
Won with the RumX lottery. Pretty classival traditional styled Savanna. French oak. Toffee. Caramel: in the nose. More on the oak/coffee than on the fruited side. A bit of abricot and pear later on. Taste: agricoly, dry. More fruit. Hint of mango. Some "Werthers Original" cream toffee. Not overly exiting. But very decent and easy drinkable rum.

Review by MarcT
I am not inspired, it is quite thin. Not a bad rum, at all, but nothing special either. Easy to sip, but i prefer others for it.
Review by Nicofr

Review by Jussi Piirainen
On the nose: Its fruity but really mild and balanced. I really had to dig so to speak for flavours. Touch of honey. Floral and woody. Expecting this rum to taste mild. Taste: Fruity, Orange peel and honey. Then you get coffee and woody notes. Flavour palate is in overall quite interesting but thin. Finish: Quite short finish. Mild and citrus upfront. Then you get roasted flavours, woodyness in the end. Ok, its a good entry level rum and a good starting point for someone new to Savanna rums. The higher abv would have probably increased this rums points in my book.
Review by Beach-and-Rum 🏖️🌴

This is something that I think would be a great introduction to Savanna. At 45% it’s not too scary, not too intense, but has enough there insight, more curiosity into a higher proof liquid from the distiller tastes like. My tasting note: bubblegum, pencil eraser, clove, smoke, lemon, honey, vanilla
