Hampden Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 17 HD <>H 2001

Give it ten minutes of air and it opens into what one taster called a "fruchtgranate" — overripe banana, kiwi, pineapple, glue and ester over a dry, slightly smoky base. Most people sip it neat; the 58% sits almost invisibly. A recurring gripe: a sour, astringent edge that not everyone loves. One member also swears it makes an excellent Mai Tai.

Unlike the Ed24, the more exciting and powerful nose. I like it when the Ester marches forward. On the palate, less balanced and a little less complexity. But I like it very much. Maybe even a bit better than the 24 as more lively and a bit drier. Here I would have liked more of... 🤦‍♂️

Had a nice evening with friends and a few good rums. Once rested this is a really nice and fruity release. I like the funk and esters in the profile and also the citrus notes in the background. Overall pretty good but the price is too high in my opinion.
