A world of difference between the opening of the bottle and four months later. A hard, alcoholic rum turns into a still strong, but very fruity rum with a very well integrated wood. A little bit of water softens the nose, reveals even more fruit and brings out a slight smokiness. A very nice surprise and a delicious rum! A remarkable rum raisin finish. Re-tasted and even better.

I don't find it at all typical of Hampden. Not much fruit, alcohol not well integrated, rather chocolaty-alcoholic notes. I don't really like it.

Welcome to Jamaica! In the nose coconut, pineapple , banana, spicy and lovely ester notes. In mouth it‘s starts with a bitter taste than it delivers the classic funky note with fruit basket, anise, ester… The finish is dry, woody with notes of ester, chocolate anise and tannins. Very very delicious rum. It‘s complex and spicy, so give it some time to fully open. You could add some water for sure (2-3 drops)

Delicious LROK with a nice nose. It's not my favorite Hampden Mark, but this is already delicious and the young age fits well here. Fruity with lots of pineapple and banana, spicy and slightly medicinal

In terms of taste, rather on the sweet side of tropical fruits (mango, papaya, banana). In addition, a funky finish with some rubber. In the taste also some chocolate. For a LROK already pretty funky.

I found the nose surprisingly restrained. Very intense on the palate, but not particularly complex. Alcohol is perceptible, but not disturbing. Unfortunately, it fell somewhat short of my expectations overall.

A very aromatic and powerful Hampden, with a typical nose of ripe tropical fruit, citrus, solvents, esters and varnish, followed by more floral notes, vanilla and wood. After aeration, a hint of smoke and meatiness emerges. The rum is powerful and intense on the palate, carried by Jamaican markers, marzipan, leather and spices. The alcohol is certainly present, but remarkably well integrated. The extremely long finish continues the spicy, smoky, salty, fruity profile with hints of tannin and leather. A very intense, aromatic, gourmet rum that is a credit to its distillery.

Great LROK here from Hampden. Ester is also slightly noticeable, otherwise the typical Hampden markers of tropical fruits, consisting of banana and pineapple. On the palate, you can also detect some chocolate.

J'aime beaucoup ce mark de chez Hampden, plutôt discret sur les esters. Ici, on retrouve bien les fruits très murs Hampden, un joli boisé, des solvants mais le tout est bien fondu est pas trop extrême. L'alcool est très bien intégré, mais 67% est quand même trop élevé pour moi.

This one was a tad disappointing although not a bad rum. On the nose this one had some promise, since it had the classic hallmarks you would expect from a Hampden - caramel, banana, vanilla, esters, oak and a hint of solvents. On the nose nothing was extreme or dominating. On the palate this one was far less interesting. First off, it’s a tad alcoholic and intense and it’s more spicy and woody than I would have expected, and correspondingly less fruity. That’s not to say that fruit notes aren’t there, but I find they’re secondary to the heat, spice start and dry, woody finish.

Very fruity nose with full ester! On the palate, all the promise of fruit is there! It's very intense, a multitude of tropical fruits, very ripe and the alcohol is superbly well integrated. So good!

An incredibly round and beautiful Jamaican rum. Very fruity and funky with the grilled pineapple, banana and mango typical of Hampden, a non-exaggerated ester kick and fine woody aromas. My best LROK in a glass so far!

Didn't leave a review at the first tasting, so posting one now. A bit floral on the nose, some honey, vanilla, banana, raisins. Pineapple and spices are hiding in the back. Very nice so far. Full blast on the palate with ripe pineapple and spices, you get a hint of the strength of this but very briefly before surprising sweetness kicks in. Finish not too long, I'm maintaining the score from the initial testing.

To start with, I prefer the higher ester marks of Hampden. Unfortunately, I think the alcohol is not integrated very well. The nose is fruity and a bit of wood. The palate is more on a spicy, woody and smoky side than a fruity one. I expected a better one, however, reading the reviews it turns out it gets better after month of opening. Will try later again.

One of the best Hampden habitation Velier, it need to breathe for at least 30min prior tasting. It's a very complex dram, many layers come one after another, Its really rich and enjoyable. Amazing Rum!

This sample did sit in the glass for about 15 minutes before i tasted it, so the review starts from there. On the nose: mild esters, light pineapple and vanilla notes.. Mild toasted wood, spices and citrus notes/citrus peel. Taste: Strong alcoholic upfront with esters, pineapple, banana and little bit of spices. Then you get woody notes and little bit of chocolate in the mix. Finish Woody notes, vanilla, leather. Little bit of pineapple in the background. Lovely on the nose and good notes, but the integration of alcohol drops the score for me a little bit.

Day 5 Sample de Luxe Calendar. Very restrained nose which I think is a shame, especially for a Hampden. After some time in the glass fruity rather yellow fruits and a hint of esters (also only LROK is clear). Very spicy on the palate with vanilla and dark chocolate. The alcohol is also not really well integrated. There are simply better Hampdens, even with fewer esters.

What a great rum - I love it. Delicious in every respect and definitely recommended... not just for high ester junkies. Aroma: Very sweet and funky at first sniff - delicious Jamaica rum, delicious Hampden. Aromatic and strong with lots of esters, plus vanilla and tropical fruits (mango, banana, overripe pineapple, Bailoni apricot liqueur). Creamy and creamy with coconut. Taste: Sweet, fruity in the mouth and, given the alcohol content, naturally alcoholically sharp after a few seconds. Also sweet when sipped, very fruity (mango, papaya, apricot schnapps). Some creamy toffee. Intense - it has real power. Finish: Very long, sweet and fruity. Warms from deep inside. Then becomes somewhat spicy and woody, with a dry, woody aftertaste.

Wood on opening, rubber, esters and a little funk. Lots of exotic fruit on the palate. Surprisingly sweet for the degree, pineapple, less funky than the nose suggests. Very pleasant long finish, with some mellow notes coming through.

Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery, which besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can sense wild esters, after which your whole body soaks in the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die."

Had this next to the Hampden LROK 2010 11 year, so a great point of apples to apples comparison. Or rotten banana to rotten banana since it's Hampden we're talking about. Jokes aside, the initial smell doesn't have tons of banana. Like the Hampden direct version, lemon and prune, dried apricot. Less sweetness than the other version, which is lighter in alcohol at 47%. Just like that one, banana comes out in the mouth. Some pineapple but lighter on that than the 47% version. Some toffee, cream. Florals and oak on the finish. I think i actually prefer the 47% expression by a hair, but both of these are good. Thanks to xamsx for a sample of this.
