Tar, rubber and bicycle-tube dirt sit under mango, papaya and cherry, with leather and oak stretching into a long, dry finish. At 55% the alcohol is well integrated and it drinks dangerously easy — though several note the full-proof version digs even deeper.

Beaucoup de fruits au nez, un léger menthol et des herbes. Un côté givré immédiatement perceptible. Des notes persistantes mais légères d’atelier mécanique et du miel de thym, mais aussi de la fumée. La bouche s’ouvre avec douceur, puis les fruits et les autres arômes s’assemblent et montent en puissance. Une très belle évolution de bouche avec un côté givré unique et assez marqué. La finale est très longue avec comme une poire William et d’autres fruits jaunes. L’amertume en finale est une incitation à se resservir. Le verre vide offre encore plus d’arômes, sur les côtés fumés, fraîcheur et atelier mécanique : une merveille ! Décidément les Caronis qui ont passé du temps en Guyane sont spécialement bons, semble-t-il. Dernier verre avec une bouteille quasi vide et c’est toujours aussi bon, même encore meilleur avec de l’oxydation.

Very high up there in the Caroni league. Well balanced with pleasant depth. At 55% this is very approachable and drinks dangerously easy. While the nose is more approachable from the outset, on the palate the few additional % ABV of its full proof hangar brother up this one on top with even more depth and complexity. Still excellent stuff at 55% nevertheless.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Offers the entire aromatic spectrum of high-class HTR caronis. In the flavor profile close to the 1992 full proof representative of the Hangar series, thanks to the reduced alcohol content somewhat more accessible.

Another chapter in #RumBuildsFriendships: Found this exotic caroni bottle in a small fast food restaurant (famous for the pinsa and gluten free products). I enjoyed a glass of this caroni during a great talk with the owner of the restaurant and the story behind this bottle! Back to buiness: This is one of my all time favorite caronis due the perfect mix of rubber, tar, bicycle tube and fruits (mango, papaya). The alcohol and barrel is integrated well. The finish is long with all the typical notes.

Powerful Caroni with a classic profile - tar, rubber, dark earth and a rich spiciness characterize the picture. These are joined by subtly integrated fruity notes, a fine bitterness and a long, dry finish. Despite its intensity, the rum remains balanced and convincing. A strong representative of its vintage.

Nose is at the edge of being too woody and, therefore, lacks a bit of elegance. Palate is more fruity and complex which leads to a better balance. Very nice Caroni overall 👌

14.12.2018 A nice relaxing evening with good food and rums galore. Notes. Medium to dark in colour. Nose: round, balanced, cherry, tar, rubber, light licorice and leather. Palate: oily, balanced, wood, light smoke, chocolate, raisin, rubber. Finish: medium to long, velvety, wood, tar, rubber, chocolate. Extra note: extremely well balanced.

The rum impresses with its medium-dark color, a round, balanced nose with cherry, tar and leather. Oily on the palate with wood, smoke, chocolate and a velvety, long finish - overall very well balanced. Thanks to beewithme for this mega-sample!!!

Initially very similar to Full Proof on the nose. Opens up much faster, but is not as intense. After about half an hour, more and more herbs and menthol are added, which doesn't appeal to me quite as much, but the overall picture is still right for me. The big difference to the FP is very clear on the palate, much thinner, less sweet, more bitter, lots of herbs and menthol.... Too bad. Unfortunately, that doesn't quite appeal to me anymore and in my opinion it's a long way from the top class. FP and HP are clearly in a different league here!

A direct comparison between the Caroni HTR from 1992 and 1994, the 18-year-old is an elegant overall package of a Caroni rum. The typical Caroni notes come through very well here without being overpowering. Altogether somewhat rounder and more elegant than the 20-year-old.

Edit: mon palais n'était pas au top en effet. Mieux cette fois-ci, ça fait moins jus de bois de luxe, néanmoins ça ne change pas fondamentalement le profile. Ah... Me voilà déçu. Je m'attendais à quelque chose de grandiose comme le 1985 que j'avais tant apprécié. Mais là, on a surtout des arômes de garage et de boisé carbonisé. Les fruits et la gourmandise peinent à émerger de tout cela. Il ressemble à un KFM 91. A regouter, c'est peut être mon palais aujourd'hui.

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at the time of its greatest glory rum, which was added in a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000, the distillery ceased production and closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who took a liking to the rum because of its special taste. And the interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of "you need to try before you die" rums. I recommend it, Caroni is a truly unique rum.

What a fantastic Caroni this is! I picked up this Caroni sample to share with my rum dealer. It was their first Caroni experience, and I wanted to share it with them. Deliciously fruity nose with a bit of that dirtiness. Deliciously smooth on the palate. Very easy to drink. It was like a fruit bowl on the palate, with the strawberries coming through beautifully. The leather and typical Caroni notes come through beautifully and linger beautifully and for a long time. The typical dirt, leather, and "bicycle tire" feel is less pronounced and more in the background. But that certainly doesn't make it any less enjoyable. On the palate, this rum feels smooth and wonderfully creamy. The alcohol is also very well integrated. What a treat this is!

Belle couleur profonde avec un léger disque qui annonce une texture un peu huileuse ! Nez très empyreumatique sur le cuir, le tabac très caractéristique des Caroni et une touche de fruits secs. Bouche franche mais douce malgré le titrage, les notes de cuir, de fût de chêne et de fruits mûrs s’enchaînent et reste des minutes entières ! Il est plus ample que le 1996! Longueur en bouche exceptionnelle ! Vous l’avez encore en bouche 10 minutes après !

This one really can shine as far as watered down(ish) velier caronis go. A pleasant Caroni and a superb 1992. Again the Applejack in the nose, and a lovely dry adstringent finish that seems to last ages. better handling of reducing than the 1994.
