Ron Aldea Maestro 2006

Vanilla, caramel and a light grassy edge lead this cane-juice rum from La Palma, distilled 2006 and aged ten years at 40%. Most tasters find it fruity and fresh but thin and one-note, with a short finish and a touch too much sweetness. One member calls it "a definite easy sipper," others just find it a bit bland and slightly hot for the strength.

I’m not impressed. I’ve expected more of a rum based on sugar cane juice distilled in a pot still. The flavors shows up late and especially during the quite short finish. It’s rather sweet, probably some added sugar, with some spiciness and some floral notes.

Bottle Market Bremen Oktober 2024. Zum Abschluss ein Ron Aldea von den Kanaren. Kein wirklich guter Rum.

Expert review by The Fat Rum Pirate

It's a definite easy sipper, some may say it would make a good starter rum. I wouldn't as it's just bland and inoffensive. As a mixer it does okay it makes a so-so rum and coke but it doesn't have anywhere near enough character to make me want to use...
