Romdeluxe DDL Limited Batch Series no 5 (Port Mourant) 2005

One taster called it "thick and oily," with an almost-Jamaican funk sitting next to the classic Port Mourant anise and licorice. Expect olive, salty herbs, mirabelle plum, dusty oak and iodine over a long, dry finish. Nobody calls it easy — the 58.3% heat and green, medicinal edge take patience. Several found the fruit hangs on despite all the wood and spice.

Oily, anise-heavy Port Mourant, dry and demanding Loved by PM fans for its oily, anise-and-olive character and long dry finish. Not an easy sipper — the herbal, medicinal side and cask-strength heat need time in the glass.

Second tasting and recalibration:The rum is not as good compared to rum rated equally good by me. In addition, the alcohol can be better integrated. -5 pointsNose: what a "mess"! Very complex and versatile. Here I can sniff it for a long time and always discover new flavors!Mouth: the start is amazingly mild but then the flavors come riding with full force on the alcohol wave! Again, a crazy combination and variety!Finish: long and with recurring impressions of nose and palate. Amazing: here the fruity flavors do not come under the wheels of barrel and spice.A great rum! No easy sipper and it takes its time.

Medizinisch scharfe Nase, kräuterig, minzig, leichte Esternote. Die Schärfe setzt sich im Geschmack überraschend stark fort und dominiert die würzigen und kräuterigen Noten, welche im nicht übermäßig langen Abgang wieder stärker zum Vorschein treten.

8,1:On the nose, the first impression we get is dark with licorice, immediately turning to vegetal, green with ripe tomatoes, hay, esters and glue, roasted wood notes with dark chocolate, leather. On aeration, it becomes a bit pungent with rotten notes, fruity with hints of citrus and tropical fruits, salty, spicy with anise, smoky, the molasses is flowery, perhaps we could notice some thyme, confectionery after long rest. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is green, grassy, fresh and herbaceous, vegetal with tomatoes and olive, spicy with anise, pepper, vanilla and salty, fruity with citrus and tropical fruits, medicinal with iodine, on oxidation more esters attack our tasting buds, the molasses becomes darker with licorice, slightly minty and thyme might be present, also dark chocolate. 8,2:The finish is long, dry and tannic, the molasses is herbaceous, vegetal, musty, the wood is smoky, there are vanilla, anise, nutmeg, some saltiness. The fruits are overripe, tropical and citrus....We cannot forget pencil shavings. Edit:30.11.25

A beautiful continental aged Guyana nose more sweet than salty: anise or rather fennel tea, very ripe mirabelle, oak (more like a dusty closet than a toasted barrel), esters bring some sweet yeast pastry. In the mouth the rum becomes saltier and the wood becomes more present without being overbearing: Anise, olives, iodine. To the ripe yellow fruit comes something unripe, tart with a hint of chlorophyll. The finish is wonderfully long and creamy: salty syrup and again overripe slightly vanilla mirabelle.A wonderful rum. Unfortunately, I did not buy a bottle on Black Friday 😢Hab him together with the rum Mercenary 2005 tasted. The RDL is for me the clear winner.Irre is the difference to the 2008 PM of Kill Devil which pulls the here soft, volatile deep into the dirt!

Vertical PM tasting: 89 / 95 /97 / 97 (cognac finish) / 02 / 05 / 13 Nose: fruits are very tamed here. Rather challenging with classic PM notes. Palate: much more pleasant on the palate. Well balanced and enjoyable.

the PM comes across quite funky, but markers of olive, mirabelle, grape, anise and oak barrel are also present. The palate pleases with peppery spice (nutmeg), wood and rock candy. A round, if not too long finish follows.

Thick and oily, with an almost Jamaica style funk added to the anise. Alcohol is well integrated. Finish ends on a sweet note. Very reasonably priced. Could use a bit more ooompf to the buttom.

Avg Rating 7.8/10 over 250 Rums

Demerara Distillers is the company that ended up holding everything. As Guyana's only surviving rum maker, its Diamond plant runs the world's last wooden pot stills and the last wooden Coffey still alongside modern columns, draws 24 different marks from them, and blends them into El Dorado. It is also the reason most Demerara on the shelf comes from one address.
