Foursquare ECS XVII 2009
Here's the surprise: at a full 60%, the alcohol mostly stays out of your way. Expect classic Foursquare — coconut, vanilla, oak, dark chocolate and a whiff of glue/solvent, with warm baking spice and dried fruit underneath. Several tasters find it a touch spicier and drier than the 2008, some even a bit harsh. But it's balanced, full-bodied and, for many, a real daily-driver bottle.

Aggregated from 300 community reviews.
Classic Foursquare: coconut, oak, cocoa, spice Loved and reliable: coconut, oak, cocoa and spice at a well-integrated 60%. A few prefer the 2008 and find this one drier or a touch too peppery, but hard to disappoint here.

Ocas chutna jako mejdlo ... Foursquare je destilerka z Barbadosu produkujici uzasne rumy ke kazdodennimu popijeni. Je to rum, ktery oceni zejmena rumari, kteri maji plne zuby cukru a hledaji jemny, nasladly rum plny kokosu, vanilky, cokolady a karamelu. Proste prijemne a nijak agresivni chute.

22.10.2025 Retasting while listening to some nice Trance Tracks. ------------------ Another wonderful Exceptional Cask that I received a few of yesterday. This one was so god I had a double dip :-) Price to quality is extremely good and I will order more backup bottles. Complex and well balanced and a true foursquare from nose to finish. Having a go at this one again and the fruityness is very nice.

The bottle fell sometime last year. Now I'm tasting a spare sample. Every vintage is hilarious and this one is no exception. On the nose, coconut, bourbon, dried fruit, perhaps praline, and a bit of technicality impress. The taste is quite sweet, but probably because of that, quite drinkable 😀 . On the palate, I'm intrigued by the notes of coconut, cocoa and some earthiness.

A really really good Foursquare and with the big advantage of not being too rare so it’s easier to get hold of. I could still not help myself and bought 4 bottles, just to be able to have it as my daily goto rum, yummy 😋😋😋 - I might have forgot how many bottles I’ve now bought, but it might be closer to 10. Unfortunately this bottle starts to be a bit expensive for a daily driver 😆 - Dayliy goto and still outstanding. - Still my goto rum and it is a really good one. - 250912: Well, this one is too close now as it’s been my daily driver for several years. Today this my new botte opening number 10 or so 😆

Solid Foursquare - brings everything you'd expect from the standard range and is perhaps a tad more approachable than its predecessors. The tart spicy notes remain present, however, and the rest of the profile is paradetypical as well. So one should not expect big surprises.

A beautiful ester-like varnish with tropical fruit on the first nose, the fruit immediately enters the game. Depth and complexity. Energy and dynamism. Surprisingly smooth on the palate, with fine aromatic development. Tropical fruit, citrus and vanilla on the finish. Another very good Foursquare, deep, dynamic and balanced. In direct comparison with the Diadem, it's more complex and dynamic, thanks to a hint of esters.

Very good Foursquare, which brings everything you expect. Quite spicy and peppery (in a positive sense) on the palate, plus tropical fruits and some glue. Great rum from Barbados!

Somewhat more spicy and peppery in the snide vs its peers from other vintages.

Guter Foursquare!
Review by Marcel.
Berries, Rasberry, sweet, acidic, gentle spice vanilla, chocolate, lots of tobacco, a bit of tar, some oak. The finish is long with oak, tobacco and copper. This Foursquare with its bright acidic note really hits the spot for me.

A gourmet and spicy Foursquare. Very well balanced. Always a good value.
Review by Rowald Sweet Empire
On the first try I like it better than the 2008 (I found that one a bit unbalanced and too alcoholic compared to '05 and '07). It is definitely more wood/oak/bourbon driven. Warm, thick and oily. Spices. Sandal wood. A good balance between sweet and dry. Coffee and Cocoa beans. Very pleasant.

Times something different than its predecessors 2005, 2007 and 2008. like it very much. Very good Foursquare.

Charred oak and spices come through very strong.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Just as delicious as the 2008.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A particularly successful Foursquare. The nose offers a nice balance between dried and tropical fruits, wood, chocolate, caramel, spices, solvent and glue. In the mouth, we find an intense and complex framework, with a powerful attack on woody and spicy notes, accompanied by greediness with chocolate, caramel and coconut. Roasted notes are also felt. The finish is warm and equally expressive with notes of tobacco and cocoa to support, the caramel finishing with sweetness. A greedy, complex and very high quality Foursquare.
Review by Joachim Guger
Classic Foursquare with bourbon aging.A slight chemical undertone that the others do not have and make this vintage interesting. Creamy with water cookie dough. Perfectly integrated alcohol, round balanced but not very complex. (That's what the 2004 does best.)Otherwise nothing new under the sun. A great sipper at a bargain price.
