Rhum J.M 2009

Oak leads here, backed by nougat, caramel and a flash of cinnamon and bitter cocoa. This 10-year agricole from Rhum J.M leans firmly woody, with light fruit and a grassy edge underneath. Several tasters love the nose — layered and inviting — but note the palate turns quite oak-forward, and at 42.3% the finish stays a touch short. A few drops of water tame the tannins nicely.

The community says
  • Complex nose
  • Rounded palate
  • But: Very oak-forward

How does Rhum J.M 2009 taste?

Aggregated from 38 community reviews.

Woody, oak-forward aged Martinique agricole Well-liked for its balanced, complex nose and rounded wood-and-caramel palate. The common gripe: it drinks heavy on oak, and the finish runs a little short for the style.

I definetly love J.M profiles. Quite close to the Kirsch Whisky release which is quite impressive for a middle range rum.

#5029 04.01.2025 Relaxing at home with some samples. Nose Balanced, wood, light roasted, fruits, light caramel, light grass, spice, light tannins. Palate Round, wood, light roasted, fruits, light orange, light caramel, faint berries, light tannins. Finish Medium to long, wood, light roasted, light tannins, light berries, light grass. The tannins can be reduced by adding a few drops of water. The empty glass has sugarcane, light tobacco and some chocolate.

Great nose, palate too woody and not at the level of the nose. Length too short, but that's probably due to its 42.3%.

Nice complexity, rather woody, somewhat lacking in fruit.

Avg Rating 8.0/10 over 250 Rums

Rhum J.M is Martinique's oldest surviving distillery, tucked into a lush volcanic valley in Macouba on the northern slopes of Mount Pelee. It is the only producer on the island that makes its rum entirely from its own cane, milled within an hour of cutting, and its brown-sugar signature has made J.M one of the most beloved agricole names with collectors.
