Romdeluxe Diamond Collectors Series No. 2 MDS 1996

People who chase old Demerara for its dark, chocolatey depth will find plenty here: a deep nose of dried fruit, plum and molasses, then licorice, dark chocolate, raisin and coffee on the palate. Several tasters call it well balanced with a long finish. The recurring gripe is the diluted strength — at 49% some feel the molasses-heavy sweetness sits a touch too flat.

Dark, chocolatey aged Demerara sipper Well-liked 25-year Diamond with dark chocolate, coffee and dried fruit. A few feel it was watered down too far and the molasses runs a bit heavy.

It is quite similar to the Corman Collins C'Rhum - heavy sweetness dominates, but unfortunately the reduced alcohol strength is also too noticeable in this bottling. It remains speculative whether the original distillate would have benefited from more power - but knowing the potential of the vintage, coupled with the legendary Coffey still as the source, it is reasonable to suspect that even more would have been possible. As a result, there is once again a lot of heavy caramel sweetness with dark chocolate, subtle café au lait and dark spicy notes, which provide some aromatic tension on the palate - but overall there is not enough spectacle for an even higher rating.

Great, intense, dark nose. Chocolatey and roasted. On the palate with plenty of power - but in a positive sense. Very well integrated alcohol. Super long finish.

A very well balanced and medium complex rum with nice fruits and wood/wood spices. Chocolate, coffee and tobacco complement the molasses flavour wonderfully.

18-07-2026 - Rate 8.8 The second Guyana in our summer Guyana tasting. We move up the ABV scale a bit. To a RomDeLuxe botteling we have tasted many times before. First time rating it. This rum belongs in the wild series if you ask me. One of the better bottelings from RomDeLuxe.

Part of a greater tasting with good company in 2021. Very deep in the nose; dried fruits and stonefruit. The notes I got from this, was licorice, dark chocolate and dried fruits. Lots of flavor despite rather low ABV

Too bad that the Diamond was diluted. Potential is there! For me, a little too much molasses in the taste. Taste-wise, I therefore like the Corman a little better than the Rome de luxe 2 batch.

Walnuts and raisins is what first comes into mind. The nose is quite alcoholic, but luckily this doesn't count for the mouth. Herbs and slightly medicinal, with some fruit in the bacground. All in all a decent rum, and for it's RRP it is relatively cheap considering it's age and origin - But all in all it doesn't stand out as exceptional.
