Romdeluxe Wild Series Rum Martinique No. 16 MSRA 2008
One taster called it "way too green" with not much else, and that split runs through the reviews. It's a 13-year Martinique agricole from Distillerie du Simon at 60.7% — grassy, floral, with pear, orange peel and a light nutty wood. Most people found the cask-strength heat overwhelming until a drop of water opened up the fruit. Not the easiest agricole around.

How does Romdeluxe Wild Series Rum Martinique No. 16 MSRA 2008 taste?

Grassy cask-strength agricole, needs water Lands around 82/100. Fresh, grassy sugarcane with light wood and citrus, but several tasters found the alcohol poorly integrated until water tamed it.

8,7:On the nose, very juicy sugarcane, grassy and flowery, with green fruits like an apple, pear and citrus fruits, wood with nutty tones, spicy with cinnamon, vanilla, anise and pepper, is the first impression we get. On aeration, pineapple and yellow fruits are out, the cane is mineral, herbaceous and earthy, some tea might be there and pastry. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is tasty with sugarcane honey, fresh and grassy, flowery, herbaceous and mineral, the wood is slightly roasted, nutty, buttery with faint butterscotch, pastry, creamy, a bit resinous, so slightly bitter and spicy with vanilla, pepper and anise, as the fruits sporadically arise with yellow, dried and citrus fruits, some pear and when oxidation does its job, faint banana. 8,6:The finish is long with grassy and herbaceous cane, tannic, spicy wood and confectionery tones and fruits like raisins, citrus and faint melon...

Way to green for me and not much else.

To release all the flavours I had to add a drop of water. Once the water was added the flavour profile changed quite a bit. A lightly fruity Agricole with grass and spices and unique in a way. Nice and warn with a very, very light touch of wood.
Review by Johannes
At the beginning a nice woody, ripe Agricole, but then the not well integrated alcohol clearly overlays. Too bad!
Review by Lukas Jäger
Amazingly light agricole. Despite the 60%, which is noticeable but not pungent, the rum is surprisingly light. A pleasant grassy-floral freshness, which is disturbed by a slightly musty note on the nose, is combined with a slight sweetness that I am not used to in agricoles, creating a very pleasant overall character. Not at all earthy or even woody-bitter, as many other agricoles are, this rum is a pleasant sipper for on the side, which nevertheless does not disappoint with its comparatively high ABV!

Broad Agricole. Not particularly memorable or pronounced in any particular direction. Nice woody note and alcoholic finish. Unfortunately really little and indefinable on the nose.
Review by Tom Buteneers
Very powerful at the beginning, even overwhelming. Thanks Kevin for your comment to add a bit of water, it really worked wonders. After this the flavor profile opens up some more and the fruity side of it steps forward, pushing the overpowering alcohol a bit to the back whilst still packing more than a punch. Not the easiest agricole I’ve tasted so far.
