Foursquare Doorly’s 5 Years

A slightly fruity and sweet smell, vanilla, a little woody. The taste is also somewhat fruity and sweet, slightly of vanilla and honey, in the aftertaste also a little woody.

Smooth, plain. Ok to drink and forget about it. No Caribbean, no fruit, no spice flavor. Molasses and wood. Taste is reminiscent of bourbon. That's not why I drink rum.

Overall an very OK everyday rum, especially when taking the price into account. The brand Doorly’s was founded by Martin Doorly & Company, but is nowadays owned and produced by Foursquare and Mr. Richard Seale. The 5yo is a single blended rum, a combination of column and pot still, aged in former bourbon casks whereafter it’s bottled without any dosage or additives at 40%.

A good entry-level rum to start with. Easy to drink with tasty notes of caramel, toffee, coconut. Light roasted oak. It’s nicely rounded by the Bourbon barrel. Short finish. I’m also thinking of trying it in a cocktail.

The nose is rather tame with no sharp notes. Toffee and oak are most dominant with some berry like fruit and a pinch of salt. The palate has the toffee and wood from the nose but with more spice than the nose would let on. No fruit notes present but some biscuity sweetness. Some milk chocolate in the background. The finish is quite short and only really keeps the wood and spice from the palate. A little vanilla is present right at the end. It's a good entry level Barbados rum but for a similar price you can buy Plantation 5 Year and I prefer that despite the dosage.

While I bought this for mixing purposes, had to give it a sip first and it's not bad. At first nosing there was a heavy cherry aroma but it died off over the next 10 minutes into typical barrel notes. In the taste some familiar Foursquare elements but for me overall dominant flavor is unsweetened baking cocoa. Bet I can trick some friends into thinking it's bourbon.

Une bonne surprise que ce rhum vieux de 5 ans d’âge venant de la Barbade ! Il est fruité et doux , il se boit très facilement . En gros , pour un rhum de cet âge , il fait très bien le taf . Je valide complètement.

Vanilla and cask on the nose. Taste is vanilla, honey and leather with just a hint of pepper, finish is nicely warm and sweetish (but no sugar seems to have been added!) with no burn, and it all ends nicely by cask undertones. It's not massively complex but for the price (paid 25eur) it's okay. It doesn't have sugar added, which is huge bonus but since finish is, surprisingly for me, almost non existent, I cannot enjoy sipping it. But it's good for cocktails.

Balanced rum with nice fruit and sweetness. Noted some nice vanilla notes pop with coke a cola. So far it’s been a nice mixer. Reminds be a bit of Four Roses Bourbon profile with fruit and wood/spice notes.
