    Near-universal love among funk fans: an old Hampden that stayed fruity and fresh rather than woody. A few rank the punchier RA 1983 slightly higher for its bigger ABV, but nobody calls this less than exceptional.

  2. Best for: Guyana and REV lovers who like dark, dry, wood-driven sippers

    Adored by REV and Guyana fans — dark, oily, complex, with well-hidden alcohol and less bitterness than usual. Needs air to open. One taster found it dry and a bit flat.

  3. Best for: Devoted fans of tropical-aged high-ester Hampden

    Near-unanimous love here — an intense, creamy ester bomb of pineapple, glue and pastry that hides its 62% well. The main gripes: real heat up front and a steep price.

  4. Best for: Rockley devotees who love smoky, medicinal, honeyed old rum

    A genuinely loved old Rockley: honey, smoke, herbs and dark chocolate with well-integrated alcohol. The main debate is where it ranks against the RA and Silver Seal 86ers, not whether it's good.

  5. Best for: Hampden fans who want mature, balanced funk

    Broadly loved as a rounder, mature Hampden with brilliant alcohol integration and grilled-pineapple fruit. The catch: some prefer the younger, punchier Continental marks, and a few find the oak a touch much.

  6. Best for: Hampden and high-ester fans who love funky tropical fruit

    A widely loved 1990 Hampden that's fruity, funky and remarkably balanced for its age. A few fans feel other 1990 releases hit harder, and the astringency isn't for everyone.

  7. Best for: Rockley-style fans who love waxy, dirty, funky old rums

    A widely loved 33-year Rockley: intense, waxy, smoky and complex, with a long finish. A few find the alcohol a little sharp or the smoke too whisky-like for their taste.

  8. Best for: Demerara fans who love dark, woody, aged Enmore

    Widely rated one of the strongest 1994 Enmore REVs — deep prune, leather, oak and dark chocolate, beautifully balanced. A couple find the wood turns bitter or the finish a touch short.

  9. Best for: Experienced drinkers who love old, high-ester Jamaican bruisers

    Nearly everyone calls the nose spectacular; the split is on the palate — several find the wood and bitterness too dominant after 35 tropical years, though most still love it.

  10. Best for: Fans of old, woody, earthy Demerara rums

    One of the most loved old Versailles/Enmore drops here — dark, woody, spiced and endless on the finish. The only quibble a few raise is a slight lack of balance versus the very top Guyanas.

  11. Best for: Long Pond and high-ester funk devotees

    Adored by Long Pond fans as a balanced, mature take on high-ester funk — glue, tropical fruit and oak in harmony. A few find the wood or bitterness slightly heavy; nobody questions the quality.

  12. Best for: Fans of high-ester Jamaican funk and Long Pond

    A loved ester-and-solvent bomb of tropical fruit with a very long finish. Most rate it highly; a few say the ABV needs a rest and it sits just behind the 2005 Cambridge.
