Production is a blending-and-flavoring affair rather than single-estate distilling. The aged rums, including the XO Extra Añejo, Reserva Extra Ultimo, Reserva Exclusiva and the sherry-influenced Dos Continentes, are sweetened blends carrying honey, vanilla and caramel. The liqueur range layers natural and added flavors onto a rum base, with the coffee version noted by one reviewer as built on a seven-year-old rum.

The range is wide for a brand this size: coconut, Caribbean orange, coffee, cocoa, a herbal Balboa, and the newer Orient Dubai-style chocolate liqueur. Tastes track exactly what the labels promise. The coconut is a full “Kokos-Bombe,” the orange is sweet macerated peel, the coffee leans into dark chocolate on a longer-than-expected finish. The aged rums are cream-bodied and sugary, with occasional floral or aniseed notes that divide opinion.

Most people drink these chilled or over ice rather than neat and dry. The coconut liqueur pairs well with a scoop of coconut ice cream as a dessert; the coffee and cocoa versions suit baking, pralines, or an after-dinner pour. The aged expressions serve as gentle introductions for newcomers or as mixers when a straight sip feels too sweet. If you want a bone-dry, complex rum, this is not the label.
